WWE has announced Wrestlemania 27, scheduled for Sunday night, April 3, will actually be taking place the next night instead.
Roughly 60 minutes into the four-hour pay-per-view extravaganza, WWE producers realized the script for WrestleMania had been mixed up with the script for Monday Night Raw, resulting in a PPV event filled with backstage comedy skits, D-list guest stars, and (apparently contractually required yet typically nonsensical) appearances by Mae Young, the Bella Twins and Hornswoggle.
“Monday Night on USA Network promises to be the most exciting night of the year after Wrestlemania,” a WWE producer says. “In addition to the premiere of ‘Tough Enough’ and the 2011 ‘WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony,’ we will be bringing you the remaining seven minutes of the 8-man tag match, the U.S. Title Match between Sheamus and Daniel Bryan, the ‘Money in the Bank’ ladder matches that we should have included in the first place, and the premiere of Zack Ryder’s new music video, ‘Friday.’”
When asked if the backstage segments will be cut from Monday night’s episode of Raw in order to truly achieve that feel of the biggest pay-per-view of the year, the producer was unsure. “We have been looking for the right opportunities to debut our newest segments, ‘Tweets from Last Night’ and ‘$*%t Booker T Says,’ and we are hoping this will be the night. We’ll have to see.”
The producer was able to shoot down reports that Jeff Hardy was lurking backstage, looking for a rematch with Sting.
