-Isn't there a rule against USA Network saying Raw is "live from London, England"? It was taped hours ago.
-When Truth said he has been down a long road that included problems, it reminded me of one of the funniest lines by a comedian ever - and inflection was a big part of it - when a contestant on "Last Comic Standing" opened her routine with the line, "I ain't got jokes, I got problems!" It's probably not funny without the delivery, but it cracks me up just thinking of it. It was a great opening.
-Seeing Truth and John Morrison with speaking time at the start of Raw feels fresh. Too bad they didn't do more in the last few months to make this feel like a moment that was coming for a while; it feels thrown together.
-Boy did the Truth-Morrison segment flop. The crowd didn't know how to react. I just felt uncomfortable, and I think fans did, too. Truth's cigarette smoking is something that has cost him money over the years because it has hurt his cardio and it has made his colleagues look down on him. Vince McMahon especially hates that. However, Big Show and Randy Orton have been smokers during main event pushes (not sure if they still smoke), so Truth is hardly alone. The whole thing of calling out Truth on the air as a smoker is an odd decision.
-At the very start of the match, Truth went to ringside and drank from a bottle of water. I was hard to tell if Truth was the heel. Cole was against Truth, so I assume Truth is supposed to be the babyface, but the whole thing was ambiguous since Morrison calling him for it came off as kind of heelish, too. I'm glad to see new guys in the opening segment, but I'm not sold on the content and execution. The weaknesses of these two performers on the mic came through in this segment.
-As weak and awkward as the pre-match segment was, it worked in a way because it made fans more willing to go all out in booing Truth. The time that they stuck with Truth beating up Morrison afterward made this memorable, especially with the announcers being quiet and letting Truth's actions tell the story. Truth then told Morrison it was his doing and then gave him his finisher on the floor. Using cigarette smoking as a heel gimmick could work. I loved the fan who shouted, "Think of the children!" as Truth smoked.
-Thumbs up on the new look for Dolph Ziggler. He needed a change to be taken seriously at a higher level as a character. I'm curious how that carries over to promos, which was the weakest aspect of his character.
-I wonder how much more of a push Christian would get today if he had that extra 20 pounds of muscle on him like in that very early photo of he and Edge as wrestlers?
-Good new t-shirt from Miz. Very different, but I can see people wearing that because it doesn't look like a standard pro wrestling or MMA t-shirt. Miz blaming Truth for not taking his feelings into consideration when he put his slot in the three-way title match at stake was great.
-How right is Miz about how stupid the cage match rules are, especially with the WWE Championship on the line?
-WWE has done at best an average job defining Sin Cara as a main eventer out of the gate, but teaming him with Cena is a good move. They did that with Evan Bourne (at the request of Cena), but the follow-up wasn't there, so it didn't lead anywhere. With Cara, they need to make sure it's seen as more than a one-time novelty spot for a mid-carder, as it was for Bourne.
-Too bad Cara overshot on the springboard moonsault at the end. He needs to know his spacing better than that. That doesn't cut it in the U.S. You can have flash, but the fans want impact.
-It's a risk to have John Cena in basically an unadvertised match rather than try to build toward his appearance.
-Throughout the matches, the announcers are taking about various scenarios in the draft, such as Miz and Riley ending up on different brands.
-Cole really is challenging Lawler's wit, keeping him on his feet. During the Bella vs. Eve match, Lawler took a dig at Cole for talking about the Bellas getting him flustered despite being married. Cole said at least he was just married once. Lawler said he could only find one woman crazy enough to marry him. Cole: "Another great comeback!" I think Cole coming at Lawler like this will keep Lawler on his toes and challenge him to stay out of his comfort zone and try to keep the one-liners a little more current.
-When will an announce team that starts Raw last long through to the end the show? It seems like it's been a while. Cole's line about how his gross foot proves he's an athlete because it's athlete's foot was pretty funny.
-I can't remember a TV main event that had less hype and less anticipation built up during Raw than Punk vs. Orton. They just relied on the WrestleMania hype to make this seem like a worthy main event. It would have been nice if they did something to set the stage or at least remind us of the issues between them. Just a backstage interview with each wrestler as they were lacing their boots would have made this feel like a bigger deal. It's as if they feared this wasn't a strong enough main event to hold the audience so they didn't want people to think "this is the only reason to stay tuned in" so they just ran from hyping it.
-As it turned out, it was a good solid straight-up wrestling match with a nice little angle at the end, with Punk and Ryan both wanting to kick Orton while he was down so badly that it gave Orton a chance to recover and end the show with an RKO.
-The crowd made this match more enjoyable. They were passionately behind both men equally and the chants in the crowd really added to the atmosphere.
