After throwing out the first pitch at the Miami Marlins game Saturday night, Bill Goldberg spent about 20 minutes answering questions from the media on a wide range of topics.
Asked about his interest in being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, Goldberg seemed nonplussed. He did say he would "seriously consider it" if he were approached about it. "But is it something I'm longing for, and my life is not complete if I'm not in the Hall-of-Fame? No," he said.
Goldberg said that one of his goals when getting into wrestling was to get in Japan. He said he had to set himself up to where he'd be viable in Japan. He said he followed Hulk Hogan, watching his progression to see how he made it over there.
That led into a discussion of why Goldberg had a difficult time turning heel in WCW. "The night that I would turn bad, they had me go against Hacksaw (Jim Duggan), he had just come back from cancer, and I had a Make-A-Wish kid in the back. She had no clue as to the 'staged-ness' of what we were doing, and so therefore she took it to heart, bawling when I got back to the room. So the next day I told them (WCW) I was going back (babyface)," he said. Goldberg said if he leaves a legacy, he wants to be remembered for making a difference with kids.
Looking back on his WCW days, Goldberg said one of his favorite opponents was Scott Steiner. He said they worked stiff matches.
"I liked that. It means you're alive and it doesn't look like it's staged and predetermined. You want to put a question in everybody's head (whether or not it's real)," he said. He also spoke highly of facing The Giant (Big Show), often in short matches. "Everybody who says 'Goldberg can't wrestle' and 'Goldberg only does two-minute matches'...why should I do anything more? Why would you do anything more to satiate the people when they're already standing on their feet?" he said.
As for Bret Hart, Goldberg said he would have mentioned him as a favorite opponent, but he still feels remorseful about the kick that ended Bret's career. They've become good friends, but "'til the day I die, I'm going to feel bad about it. And there's nothing I can do to take it back."
