- WWE Battleground PPV Reax

Scott Lunn of Holly Springs, N.C. (4.0): Best Match: Fatal Four-Way WWE Title match. Worst "Match:" Ambrose-Rollins. The more I looked at this card, the more I saw potential for it to be a lot better than average. I set myself up for severe disappointment. Rollins-Ambrose was the most anticipated match on the card, and we didn't get it. Had I paid $60, I'd be furious, but at $9.99/month, somehow it seems acceptable. That's a dangerous pattern... The tag match was solid, though a waste of a stipulation. Their previous PPV contest was better. Where do the Usos go from here? Unless Ascension shows up Monday and wrecks them, there isn't much to get excited about... Paige vs. A.J. was good, with potential to be awesome. Sign me up for an I Quit match at Summerslam... Rusev and Swagger felt about right, because they aren't done with it yet, despite the now uncomfortable storyline... Jericho and Wyatt surprisingly under-delivered, in my opinion. I realize there is more to come, but they need a better explanation and Wyatt needs to turn into a monster... The IC Title Battle Royal was predictable and unsatisfying. No matter how many reboots, I don't care about The Miz... The Fatal Four-Way actually exceeded my expectations. Entertaining, but again, a fairly obvious outcome. The build for Reigns continues to be stellar, but Mania is still a long ways away if that's the intended payoff point... Overall, I felt a bit like I wasted three hours, and, again, it makes me fearful of the path they could head down with PPVs given the price of the Network. The rest of the content makes it easily worth the expense, so lousy pay-per-views won't run me off... but that doesn't mean they should be so lackluster.

Jeremy Quist of Ripplemead, Va. (6.0): Best Match: Usos vs. Wyatts. Worst "Match:" Rollins vs. Ambrose. Rollins vs. Ambrose felt like an old-school WCW Nitro bait and switch. The reality is, though, that this was supposed to be a get me over to Summerslam show... The Battle Royal was irritating and telegraphed. Miz was seen outside on several occasions. He couldn't be bothered to hide under the ring. Even after he tried to eliminate Sheamus and ran back out, we could still see him outside the ring. Jerry Lawler has done this plenty at the Royal Rumble. JBL said on commentary that he saw Miz, but didn't want to ruin the surprise. What surprise? ... Rusev went outside of the ring against Swagger far too often to gain any real momentum... The Paige angle made no sense. She rooted for A.J., but then tried to pin A.J... I loved Jericho in the '90s and early 2000s, but I wasn't a fan of his work with Punk, and I wasn't a fan of his match with Bray, and I love watching Bray wrestle. Jericho has lost something in my view... I love Roman Reigns, but he seemed a bit blown up and slow at times. Cena had to win because Brock has talked about his desire to be champ. It fits the story, and makes the anticipation of Reigns's eventual title run grow... Battleground was the worst PPV that we will see in 2014, but I'm excited for Summerslam and the young talent that WWE has going forward. People forget that WWE is doing all of this without the best two wrestlers in the world, C.M. Punk and Daniel Bryan. Imagine how hot WWE will be if they get both of them back.
