Aired on WWE Network
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor
Main Event started with Cesaro's theme music. Cesaro was in the ring sporting an eye patch and he was standing next to Paul Heyman, who did the talking for Cesaro. Heyman said he delivers on his promises. Most notably, when Brock Lesnar conquered The Undertaker's Undefeated Streak at WrestleMania. Boos.
Heyman said he understands why they are booing because the audience was promised a match between his client, Cesaro, and that person, that runner-up, Dolph Ziggler. Heyman said unfortunately that match cannot take place tonight because of one man, Kofi Kingston. Because last night on Raw, Kofi intentionally blinded his client.
Heyman introduced video from last night on Raw when Kofi grabbed Cesaro's eye escaping from a power move. That led to the finish. Cesaro sold anger re-watching his loss to Kofi, then Heyman calmed him down and reminded everyone how Cesaro took matters into his own hands by destroying Kofi after the match.
After a review of events on Raw, Cesaro had a good laugh at his work, while Heyman admonished the crowd for their boos. Although Cesaro will not be competing tonight, he will be competing in the battle royal at Battleground for the IC Title. And, here's a promise upon which he will deliver --- suddenly, Dolph Ziggler's music interrupted.
Ziggler walked out on-stage with something to say in response, then talked as he walked down to the ring. Ziggler took exception to being called a runner-up, then reminded Heyman when he won the MITB briefcase (last year) and cashed in the briefcase to become World Hvt. champion (last year). And when he became Intercontinental champion (four years ago). Ziggler told Heyman to tell Cesaro to man up and face him right now.
Suddenly, Big E. interrupted. Big E. walked out on-stage and said while he commends both men for their intensity and passion, he must remind them that he, too, is a former IC champion. (Big E. was in full preacher-voice promo mode.) And even though he has strayed from the path of righteousness and excellence, he has a chance at redemption by winning back his title.
Big E. was suddenly interrupted by Ryback and Curtis Axel. Ryback told the "cornballs" in the ring to listen up. Because it doesn't matter when, where, or how - Axel finished his sentence that they will not be stopped. Rob Van Dam's music interrupted to bring out RVD listing everyone's accomplishments. Well, except for Ryback and Axel. The point is they're all good. Really good. But, only one of them is good enough to be Arrr Vee --- the heels cut off RVD and the fight was on. Heels were cleared out of the ring, then RVD's music played. Where's the Main Event GM to book a match?
Suddenly, the Wyatts theme interrupted. Are they tonight's bookers? There was Erick Rowan, then Luke Harper, who told New Jersey that they're coming. "Run," Rowan growled behind his mask.
Up Next: The Wyatts in action.
[Break]
Announcers: Tom Phillips relayed information that it's RVD, Ziggler, and Big E. against an (injured?) Cesaro, Ryback, and Axel in a six-man tag match tonight. Phillips said this was handed down by The Authority during the break.
Raw last night: The Miz returned, then Chris Jericho interrupted and give him a Codebreaker, until the Wyatts interrupted Jericho and took him out to begin a new feud.
1 -- LUKE HARPER & ERICK ROWAN vs. R-TRUTH & XAVIER WOODS
Harper smashed Truth with an early kick to the face, then tagged in Rowan to continue assaulting Truth while X could only watch. Xavier finally got a tag and strung together some offense on Rowan, but only scored a two count on a swinging DDT. But, Rowan cut off Xavier and all four men found themselves in the ring. Harper smashed Truth again, then Rowan found himself alone in the ring with Xavier to deliver a power bodyslam for the pin and the win. "Ring that bell," the ref declared before being scared out of the ring by the Wyatts.
WINNERS: Wyatts at 2:34. Good, clean squash to re-establish the Wyatts following their Tag Title match loss at MITB on Sunday.
Smackdown plug: Chris Jericho will return to Friday nights to address the attack from the Wyatts on Raw.
[Break]
Raw Rebound Part 1: John Cena vs. The Authority and everything that was contained in the book-end segments.
2 -- NIKKI BELLA vs. CAMERON & NAOMI -- handicap match
The announcers noted this is a re-match from Raw, which Naomi won for her team, upsetting Cameron. Before the bell sounded, Stephanie McMahon appeared on the video screen and said it's too bad Brie bailed on Nikki, so in the spirit of fairness, she has assigned her a new tag team partner. Out came crazy Alicia Fox, which Nikki wasn't so sure about.
2b -- NIKKI BELLA & ALICIA FOX vs. CAMERON & NAOMI
The Funkadacytls isolated Nikki early on as A. Fox tried to contain herself on the ring apron. But, just like last night on Raw, Nikki took the loss. This time, Cameron got the win, which upset Fox for not getting in the match and Naomi for being shown up by Cameron.
WINNERS: Cameron & Naomi at 1:38.
Backstage: Renee Young asked Sheamus about issuing an Open Challenge for the U.S. Title on Fourth of July Smackdown. Sheamus said he's a fighter and he loves this country. So, he wants someone, anyone to step up and take his challenge. In came Alberto Del Rio, who took up Sheamus on his offer, while also noting he plans to win the IC Title at Battleground in three weeks.
[Break]
Raw Rebound Part 2: John Cena vs. The Authority and everything that was contained in the book-end segments.
Backstage: Renee brought in Heyman and Cesaro to discuss why Heyman is trying to keep Cesaro out of the main event tonight. Heyman said his client is not afraid of competition; he is simply injured because of Kofi Kingston. Heyman said too many champions in WWE would rather forfeit than fight. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. But, he has some bad news that his client does not forfeit; he fights. Heyman said Cesaro will fight his way through the battle royal at Battleground and win the IC Title. And, his victory speech will be in five different languages.
In-ring: Dolph Ziggler was introduced first for the main event.
[Break]
In-ring: Big E. and Rob Van Dam were out next for the face trio, then Ryback and Axel were introduced first for the heel team. Cesaro came out last and the announcers said Cesaro was cleared to wrestle for the match.
3 -- DOLPH ZIGGLER & ROB VAN DAM & BIG E. vs. RYBACK & CURTIS AXEL & CESARO (w/Paul Heyman) -- six-man tag match
The announcers noted Ryback and Axel are former Paul Heyman Guys, creating an interesting scenario for Heyman managing clients past and present. Remember Heyman's infatuation with Ryback months and months ago? In the ring, Ziggler targeted Cesaro's injured eye, removing the eyepatch before Cesaro bailed to the heel corner to tag in Axel. The faces took control heading to break.
[Break]
Back from break, the heels were controlling the action working on RVD. Ziggler tried to rally RVD and the crowd, then Axel tried to pick a fight with Axel, who ignored him. Ryback re-entered and went to the top turnbuckle, but he took too long and airballed a flying splash. RVD then rolled toward the face corner to tag in Ziggler.
Ziggler came in hot on Cesaro, rocking him with corner punches and a neckbreaker. Ziggler knocked Axel off the ring apron, then tried a Fameasser on Cesaro, but Cesaro blocked, only to re-adjust and nail a Fameasser for a two count. And there was Heyman selling disbelief by not blinking while on-camera.
Chaos with bodies everywhere. Cesaro then pushed RVD off the top rope into a sea of bodies on the floor. But, Ziggler snuck up behind Cesaro and dropped him with the Zig-Zag for the pin and the win. Cut to Heyman, who had the Million Yard Stare selling complete disbelief over the result. Ziggler then led RVD and Big E. in a curtain call before WWE replayed the finish. One more curtain call led by Ziggler as the heels retreated up the entrance ramp to the back. Spotlight on Ziggler as the show wrapped up.
WINNERS: Team Ziggler at 11:01. Fine match putting the spotlight on Ziggler in the John Cena role leading a group of babyfaces in a six-man tag. Heyman's facial expressions added tremendously, as usual.
