Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor
Main Event opened with Rhodes Bros.'s music to bring out Cody Rhodes for singles action in his homestate. Goldust joined Cody for the opener. WWE cut to a replay from last night's Raw of Cody taking two RKOs from Randy Orton, then Goldust taking a two-on-one handicap loss from Orton and Batista.
Back on Main Event, Curtis Axel and Ryback were introduced for action. WWE then cut to footage from backstage during Raw when Ryback and Axel tried to bully Goldust after losing to Evolution. Ryback shoved down Goldust, who was aided by Cody. Cody teased fighting back, but opted to stay calm.
1 -- CODY RHODES (w/Goldust) vs. CURTIS AXEL (w/Ryback)
Cody and Axel fired off chops at each other early on, then Axel whipped Cody hard into the corner ringpost. Cody fought back with a flying forearm, then he hung Axel across the top rope to kick him in the gut. Cody followed with a top-rope moonsault for a close two count.
Suddenly, Ryback hopped on the ring apron, so Goldust grabbed him, but Ryback shoved Goldust into the guardrail. Cody smashed Ryback with the Disaster Kick, but Axel cut off Cody from behind with a cheap shot. Axel followed with a roll-up with a hook of the tights to "steal" the match, as described by announcer Tom Phillips.
WINNER: Axel at 4:22. How long until Cody explodes out of frustration? The clock is ticking.
Announcers: Phillips and Byron Saxton reset the show as WWE framed the wife from USA Network's "Chrisley Knows Best" sitting right behind the announcers. The announcers then fed to footage of the Cena-Wyatt happenings from Raw last night.
Still to come: WWE tag champs The Usos vs. Erick Rowan & Luke Harper.
[Break]
This Friday on Smackdown: Sheamus vs. Wade Barrett in a Champion vs. Champion match.
In-ring: R-Truth's music played to bring out Truth sans Xavier Woods. As Truth made his entrance, WWE replayed Damien Sandow competing as Sherlock Holmes last week on Main Event, defeating Truth with You're Welcome. Suddenly, rap music played to bring out Damien Sandow dressed as a rapper. He had a roll of duct tape around a fake silver necklace as his key accessory. Sandow rapped about rapping, playing basketball, and his teeth. He sounded like a John Cena promo from 10 years ago. From the ring, Truth said he understands Sandow has an identity crisis, but Truth said ain't nobody got time for this. Sandow said he's holding it together like tape. "Thuggish Living 'Til The End. Tell A Friend," Sandow closed.
2 -- DAMIEN SANDOW vs. R-TRUTH
Sandow competed in a backwards baseball cap, red track suit, and white shoes. Truth quickly removed the cap and danced in Sandow's face, agitating the former Davy Crockett. Sandow came back with the Elbow of Disdain, but Truth answered for the pin and the win on "D Sizzle."
WINNER: Truth at 2:33. Next Tuesday's TV taping is in Cincinnati, so you figure Sandow will bring back Cincinnati Red next week.
Video Review: Daniel Bryan-Stephanie McMahon. "Do the right thing," Steph encouraged Bryan. Either surrender the WWE Title or she fires Brie Bella.
Backstage: The Bella Twins were shown talking backstage. Brie sold being distraught over her career in jeopardy.
[Break]
In-ring: Brie Bella was introduced for singles action, flanked by Nikki Bella. Natalya was then introduced as the opposition two nights ahead of competing for the NXT Women's Title. The announcers hyped the title match before the bell sounded.
3 -- BRIE BELLA (w/Nikki Bella) vs. NATALYA
Natalya controlled a distracted Brie early on. Nikki tried to provide encouragement from ringside, but Natalya continued to dominate. Stalemate, then Brie woke up and gained control of the match. Brie showed fire, essentially taking out her Stephanie anger on Natalya. But, Natalya absorbed Brie's comeback and finished her off with the Sharpshooter for the win.
Afterward, Nikki consoled a distraught Brie, then Natalya tapped Brie on the shoulder and walked out of the ring, empathizing with Brie's predicament.
WINNER: Natalya via submission at 3:43. Basic set-up for Natalya on Thursday and the Bryan/Brie predicament on Sunday.
Backstage: Renee Young brought in WWE tag champs The Usos. Jey Uso tried to get to the bottom of what makes the Wyatts a family - is it because they follow the buzzards together?
[Break]
Raw Replay: The end of Raw centered on The Shield and Evolution.
Suddenly, the Wyatt video interruption played. The video showed Luke Harper standing by. Harper said Bray Wyatt gave them purpose and direction. He said some bonds are stronger than blood, answering The Usos. Bray Wyatt then appeared. Bray said he found these two men discarded like trash, took them in, and they bonded over a common purpose. Bray then noted the Usos have become two pawns in John Cena's "sick little game." He said they will find out what happens when you interfere in their plans. "Run," Erick Rowan said behind the lamb mask to cut off the video.
[Break]
In-ring: WWE tag champs The Usos were introduced on-stage for the main event. The Wyatts were introduced next and WWE replayed Cena/Usos-Wyatts events last night on Raw.
4 -- WWE tag champions THE USOS vs. ERICK ROWAN & LUKE HARPER (w/Bray Wyatt)
The Usos doubled up on Harper early on. But, Harper responded with a big dropkick to the mouth. Main Event cut to break with the Wyatts now in control.
[Break]
Hot tag to Jey Uso back from break, then Uso tried a Samoan Drop on Rowan, but Rowan slipped out. Rowan then caught Uso for a big fallaway slam that sent Jey flying to the floor in front of Bray Wyatt. The Wyatts followed up by exchanging tags working on Uso. "Uh-so!" chant from the crowd helped Uso rally, but Harper cut him off for a two count.
Uso escaped Rowan with a missile dropkick and tagged in Jimmy, who ran over both Wyatt representatives. Uso with a Samoan Drop to Harper, then a standing sidekick for a two count when Rowan broke up the pin. All four men in the ring. Rowan ate the floor, then Jey took a spill. Jimmy nearly pinned Harper, then he dumped Harper to the outside. The Usos regrouped in the ring and went flying over the top rope with stereo splashes in front of Bray Wyatt.
At 10:00, Bray got involved by giving instructions to Harper. Back in the ring, Harper exploded on Uso with a discus clothesline. It was good for the pin and the win.
After the match, Rowan and Harper beat up the Usos to put an exclamation point on the victory. The crowd chanted for "Cena," not realizing he wasn't booked. Bray laughed at the crowd and taunted them: "Where's John Cena?" Bray then dropped Uso with Sister Abigail on the outside. Harper leaned down and slowly counted to ten to demonstrate the Cena-Bray Last Man Standing match at Payback on Sunday. The crowd again chanted for Cena, but the video feed cut out Wyatt style, ending Main Event.
WINNERS: Harper & Rowan at 10:35. A nice Tag Title division feud is brewing here. Good action and reinforcement for Payback.
