WWE Main Event Results
April 29, 2014
Live in Kansas City, Mo.
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor

Main Event opened with the Rhodes Bros.'s theme music to bring out Cody Rhodes and Goldust, who were seemingly on the same page tonight. Out as the opposition was Alberto Del Rio, who beat Cody on Raw and now gets Goldust.

1 -- ALBERTO DEL RIO vs. GOLDUST (w/Cody Rhodes)

Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton on the call tonight. The announcers said everything coming out of the Rhodes Bros.'s camp is they are united and any issues have been resolved. Goldust was the aggressor early on, but Del Rio cut him off. Del Rio then lined up Goldust for a running kick, but Goldust blocked and leg-whipped Del Rio across the ring. Final Cut from Goldust. And it was good for the win.

WINNER: Goldust at 3:10. That was a pretty quick loss for Del Rio. WWE quickly moved on to the Rhodes Bros.'s issues to cover for the loss...

Post-match: Cody hopped on the ring apron and applauded his brother, who posed and celebrated in the corner. Goldust looked down at his brother, who acted happy for Goldust picking up the win. Renee Young then entered the ring to ask Goldust about the victory. And whether the Rhodes Bros. will go their separate ways. "What?!" Goldust asked. "Ne-ne, the Brotherhood is intact." He said they might wrestle singles from time to time, but they will always have each other's backs.

Renee then asked Cody if he's happy about his brother winning tonight. Cody took offense, saying she must think Goldust is better than him because he lost to Del Rio last night. Cody checked himself and said he hasn't been himself as of late. He said the Brotherhood is here for good. Cody raised his brother's arm in the air, then started to leave the ring. Cody paused on the ring apron and shot a look over Goldust's shoulder, but no backstab. Instead, WWE cut to the announcers.

Announcers: Phillips and Saxton fed to a video on John Cena's Make-a-Wish work.

Still to come: Sheamus vs. Bray Wyatt in a singles match.

[False Break]

Smackdown plug: The announcers said there is a change to the U.S. Title match on Smackdown. It will now be Dean Ambrose defending against Ryback, Curtis Axel, and the guy who just lost in three minutes in a fatal four-way match. No more three-on-one handicap match for the title.

In-ring: Divas champion Paige was introduced to the ring for singles competition. Alicia Fox was out next as Paige's opponent.

2 -- Divas champion PAIGE vs. ALICIA FOX -- non-title match

The announcers noted that the Divas locker room was glad for Paige when she first won the title, but now they're starting to line up for a shot at the title, like Fox. Paige was the aggressor early on as she continues to assert herself as the top Diva on the roster. Fox fought back as the veteran in the match, then Paige came back with a DDT for the pin and the win.

Post-match: Paige made her way up the ramp to celebrate the victory, but Tamina Snuka emerged to give her something else to think about. Tamina glared at Paige, who sold concern heading into her first PPV title defense on Sunday. No physicality.

WINNER: Paige at 3:40. Straight-forward booking continuing to establish Paige and set up her title defense on Sunday.

Announcers: Phillips and Saxton discussed John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt inside a steel cage on Sunday. Phillips then fed to a video on Cena-Bray events in the opening segment of Monday's Raw.

Backstage: Renee Young brought in Sheamus for an interview. Sheamus said he understands what monsters are about, then told Bray to drop the masks because it's time to fight tonight.

[False Break]

Vignette: Adam Rose's Exotic Express is coming to Raw next Monday.

In-ring: Kofi Kingston was introduced in neon green Oregon Ducks colors for singles competition against Wade Barrett. Barrett was introduced next and declared he has some bad news on the way to the ring. Barrett said that this Sunday, he will take on a cut-out champion known as Big E. for the IC Title. Barrett called him so bland, boring, and dim-witted that he will go down in history as having the personality of dry toast. What happened to promos about in-ring skills, as opposed to "entertainment value?"

3 -- KOFI KINGSTON vs. WADE BARRETT

Barrett dominated early on, then mockingly tried to lead the crowd in a "Baaaad News" chant. Some obliged, then Barrett laughed at them. Kofi came back with a flying cross-body splash for a two count. Kofi sort of pushed Barrett with his feet, so Barrett rolled to the floor for a breather. On the outside, Kofi went for a flying smash off the ring steps, but Barrett smashed him with a Bullhammer Elbow. Barrett rolled a KO'ed Kofi back into the ring, then pinned him for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Barrett at 2:33. They're really getting over Barrett's ability to hit the Bullhammer in any situation, either in or out of the ring. Should set up for a nice false finish vs. Big E. on Sunday.

Up Next: Kane psychologically tortured Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella on Raw.

Vignette: Bo Dallas.

[False Break]

Announcers: Phillips and Saxton fed to a video package on Bryan vs. Kane for the WWE Title on Sunday.

Titantron: The Wyatt theme interrupted and Bray Wyatt addressed Kansas City before blowing out his lantern. Back in the arena, Bray led Erick Rowan and Luke Harper down to ringside for the Main Event main event.

[False Break]

Back in the arena, Bray was singing, "He's got the whole world in his hands." Some of the audience joined in swaying in the crowd, then Sheamus's music interrupted Bray. Sheamus marched down to the ring as Bray re-focused on wrestling a match.

4 -- SHEAMUS vs. BRAY WYATT (w/Luke Harper and Erick Rowan)

Sheamus wanted Ten Forearms to the Chest early on, but Harper and Rowan pulled Bray off the ring apron to the floor. Bray regrouped as Main Event cut to break.

Back from break, Bray lit up Sheamus with right hand strikes back in the ring. Sheamus rolled to the floor, Bray followed, and Sheamus ran over Bray with a hard clothesline. The fight moved to the announce position, then Sheamus brought Bray back into the ring. Bray was quick to respond and took control of the match, but Sheamus blocked a running butt splash with knees to the back.

Sheamus came up firing with right hand strikes. He followed with a sledgehammer, then corner charge into a kneelift. Sheamus was unable to follow up, though, as Bray ducked a flying attack and nailed a uranage for a two count. Bray wanted Sister Abigail, but Sheamus blocked, gripped Bray, adjusted, and nailed the Celtic Cross for a two count.

Sheamus followed up with ten forearms to the chest, then nailed a battering ram for another nearfall. Bray suddenly exploded onto Sheamus with a flying smash off the ropes, but Sheamus kicked out of a pin attempt. Right hands from Bray. He ducked a Brogue Kick, but walked into the Irish Curse backbreaker for a close two count. Sheamus followed with a powerslam for another two count.

At 13:00, Sheamus tried to figure out what he should do next as the crowd showed appreciation for the match. Sheamus then knocked Rowan off the ring apron, but got his leg caught in the ropes trying to strike Harper. Bray seized the opening and dropped Sheamus with Sister Abigail. It was good for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Bray at 13:41. Strong singles match. Bray has really come along as a singles wrestler and showed good chemistry with Sheamus here.

Post-match: The Wyatts put the boots to Sheamus, but WWE tag champs The Usos showed up and cleared the Wyatts from the ring. Nice to see babyfaces looking out for a fellow babyface. The Usos's music played, then helped Sheamus away from ringside as the Wyatts laughed and smiled about Bray's victory. It looks like a six-man tag match for Smackdown on Friday.
