WWE Main Event Results
January 8, 2014
Taped 1/7 in Philadelphia, Pa.
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor
Main Event opened with announcers Tom Phillips and The Miz hyping the WWE Network announcement later in the night. R-Truth, Xavier Woods, Cameron, and Naomi then bounced down to the ring for the opening match. Truth asked Philly for some noise, but Real Americans's music interrupted.
1 -- R-TRUTH & XAVIER WOODS (w/Cameron and Naomi) vs. REAL AMERICANS (JACK SWAGGER & ANTONIO CESARO w/Zeb Colter)
As the match unfolded, the announcers discussed whether Truth and Woods can be successful as a tag team. Miz tripped over himself saying it depends on their "push," then tried to find the WWE-appropriate verbiage. In the ring, Swagger knocked Truth to the floor to take control leading to break.

Back from break, the heels took turns targeting Truth's knee to keep him isolated in the ring. Swagger declared this to be their ring, but Cesaro lost control and Xavier tagged in. Xavier prepared for victory, but Fandango's music interrupted. Fandango and Summer Rae danced on stage, then Cesaro blasted Woods with a European Uppercut for the pin and the win. Revenge for Fandango and Rae for last week's events.
WINNERS: Real Americans at 11:20.
[Commercial Break]
2 -- ALBERTO DEL RIO vs. JUSTIN GABRIEL
To continue tying together Del Rio and a returning Batista, WWE ran a hype video for Batista coming back from break. Del Rio blasted Gabriel early on as Miz referenced Del Rio running down Batista on Raw. Gabriel made a comeback with a springboard cross-body, but Del Rio recovered and smashed Gabriel in the corner. Del Rio then superkicked Gabriel in the mouth for a three count.
WINNER: Del Rio at 3:46. Basic enhancement match trying to get Del Rio in the same ballpark as Batista before Batista returns next week.
Post-match: Del Rio took the mic and asked the audience what's wrong with them. Del Rio said they should be on their feet celebrating his victory, but they must be too stupid like the little girls jumping up and down in the Batista video. But, it's okay. Because all of them are just like Batista - a bunch of filthy animals.

Backstage: Renee Young approached FandangoRae to inquire about "disrupting" Xavier Woods's tag team match earlier. Fandango shushed Renee, called her "Isabella," and noted he showed Xavier a little something up his sleeves. Renee noted Fandango isn't even wearing sleeves, prompting Fandango to reply that she's not even a real "journalism." Fandango walked off, then Summer told Renee that he's taken.
Video Package: Legends on "Old School" Raw.
In-ring: Goldust and Cody Rhodes were introduced for tag action. One year ago, Goldust would have been one of the "old-timers" dressed down by Wade Barrett.

3 -- WWE tag champs RHODES BROS. vs. 3MB (JINDER MAHAL & DREW MCINTYRE w/Heath Slater) -- non-title match
Slater hopped on commentary to discuss his disappearance from TV. Slater sounded like Jimmy Hart squeaking about his one-man band tour and refuting rumors that he left the band. Slater went off the rails saying he heard "Miz Television" was going to be canceled, prompting Miz to note he has a Miz TV segment with Big Show on Smackdown. Slater didn't buy it, telling Miz he jumped the shark a long time ago.
In the ring, the tag champs made a comeback, prompting Slater to freak out. Cody scored a close two count on Mahal, then kicked him in the gut. Alabama Slam, then Cody knocked Drew to the outside. Cody followed with the Disaster Kick as Slater shouted at Drew to get in the ring. But, Cody registered a three count for the win. "Are you serious, man?!" Slater shouted toward Drew.
WINNER: Rhodes Bros. at 4:52. Slater was gold on commentary. Amazing heel work as a disillusioned rock star.
Backstage: Divas champ A.J. Lee and Kaitlyn were shown on a split screen. They face off next.
[Commercial Break]
4 -- Divas champion A.J. LEE (w/Tamina Snuka) vs. KAITLYN -- non-title match
On commentary, Miz and Phillips talked about A.J. approaching the Divas Title record. Miz pointed out that Maryse owns the record, boasting that he will be marrying her later this year. Kaitlyn's final WWE match started with a handshake, which A.J. accepted. A.J. quickly stopped playing nice, wearing down her former best friend.
Kaitlyn came back with a backbreaker, though, to make her comeback. A.J. kicked out of a gutbuster, then turned a sidewalk slam into the Black Widow. Kaitlyn faded, but bounced A.J. into the turnbuckle to escape. Moments later, A.J. bounced Kaitlyn off her head and pinned her for the win.
Post-match: A.J. skipped around the ring as Kaitlyn teared up. A.J. then stopped skipping and jumped into Kaitlyn's arms. A.J. hugged her as the announcers tried to figure out what was going. They shared a moment, then A.J. dropped Kaitlyn. Suddenly, Tamina entered the ring and superkicked Kaitlyn. A.J. returned to heel mode, smiled, and skipped around the ring as the announcers played off the moment as A.J. using mind games to control the Divas. Main Event then signed off with A.J. standing tall on-stage and Kaitlyn selling the effects of her final match in the ring.
WINNER: A.J. at 7:02. Good final match-up between A.J. and Kaitlyn, bringing Kaitlyn's career full circle from NXT.
