Taped 8/27/13 in Las Vegas, Nevada
Aired on Ion Television
By Michael Cupach, PWTorch contributor

[Q1]

-WWE open.

-Main Event opened up this week with a video package from last Monday's Raw recapping the events of C.M. Punk versus Curt Axel and the aftermath when Axel and Heyman destroyed Punk. This package ran almost four minutes!

-Main Event music video. Josh Mathews then welcomed everyone to Main Event and there was no pyro this week. Josh is joined by Alex Riley, who he calls his new broadcast partner. Will he be the new permanent co-host?

-Curtis Axel and Paul Heyman made their way to the ring. Alex teased that he spoke with Paul minutes before tonights show started and he will share what they discussed.

-Cody Rhodes is out next. He faces Axel, next!

1 - IC champion CURTIS AXEL (w/Paul Heyman) vs. CODY RHODES – non-title match

Both men chain wrestle and trade headlocks to start, Cody wins the sequence with a fireman's carry! Riley shares that Heyman told him that he saw Punk as a prodigal son and a prodigy, which is not exactly breaking news there! Cody works a chickenwing, gets a few near falls, Axel is frustrated, and he rolls to the outside to confer with Paul. Cody holds the ropes open for Axel to return to the ring, but Curtis stalls instead.

Back in the ring, both men tie-up, Axel backs Cody to the corner, and the referee calls for a clean break. Roll-up from Rhodes, Axel kicks out and then haymakers Cody in the face before working him over on the mat. Cody Rhodes is clotheslined to the floor, then Curtis follows him out and whips Cody into the barricade. The referee is counting both men out as Main Event cuts to its first break 4:45 into the match!

Curtis Axel suplexes Cody when Main Event returns and Cody kicks out at one, then Curtis goes into a chinlock. On the outside, Paul holds up the IC Title to taunt Cody, who is escaping the hold, but Curtis cuts his comeback off at the pass. Dropkick from Axel gets another two count, then he drives his elbow into the heart of Rhodes. Cody is whipped hard into the turnbuckle, Curtis tries another pin, but Cody kicks out.

[Q2] Josh Mathews asks Alex about the Triple H situation, but Riley refuses to comment, “pleading the fifth” because he likes his job. Double axehandle from Curtis as the crowd chants “Walrus” at Heyman. Axel goes back to a resthold. Riley is putting Axel over hard here, you would think that Axel owes him money or something! Cody side-steps a charge in the corner and moonsaults Axel for a two count. He keeps the momentum going with a series of clotheslines and a drop-down uppercut to the face! Beautiful Disaster whiffs, Axel tries a Perfect Plex, Rhodes fights out, and Cody counters into an Alabama Slam!

Cody is up and feeding off the crowd, but Axel turns things around with a side suplex for a two count! Paul is yelling at Axel that it is his time now, so Axel goes to the middle rope, but Cody cuts him off. Cody *brings* him down with a Muscle Buster for a two count! Curtis is trying to crawl out of the ring and escape, then Axel grabs the apron to fight and kicks Rhodes in the face. Axel is up on his feet and he delivers his swinging neckbreaker into faceplant for the win!

WINNER: Curtis Axel by pinfall in 14:41.

Mike's Reax: Cody showed good fire and the crowd was getting behind him, but Axel dragged things down with restholds and overall greenness. Even Paul looked bored on the outside of the ring. Bottom line, I don’t care how much the announcers try to build up and put over Axel, he isn’t ready or he doesn’t have it.

-Still to come, Kofi Kingston versus Fandango!

(Commercial)

-The Prime Time Players come out to a smattering of applause, as they are in action tonight!

-The Real Americans are out next, and Zeb Colter doesn’t have a microphone. No tired, old promo from him.

2 - THE REAL AMERICANS (w/Zeb Colter) vs. PRIME TIME PLAYERS

Josh mentions how the Americans desperately need a win, as they are in a slump. Antonio Cesaro and Darren Young kick things off with Cesaro trying a sneak attack, but Young dodges him and he goes flying into the corner. The Players trade quick tags to keep Cesaro off balance. Young tries a whip into the corner, but Cesaro reverses and whips Young so hard that he flies over the tope rope. Jack Swagger is tagged in, so he goes to the floor and runs Young over with a clothesline!

[Q3] In the ring, Swagger puts Darren in an armbar and yells at him that he isn’t a real American. Young tries a comeback, but Swagger quickly moves him into the heel corner and Cesaro cheap-shots him. Swagger Bomb in the corner, then he tags in Cesaro, who double-stomps the abdomen! Gut wrench suplex by Antonio Cesaro, who tags in Swagger. Swagger tries showing up Cesaro with suplexes of his own, and I think Cesaro’s was more impressive! Tag back into Cesaro and both men chokeslam Young! Young is bleeding from the mouth and Cesaro puts him back in a resthold. Young is whipped into the corner, Cesaro runs into a big boot, Young back-elbows Swagger, and Titus Young tags in!

Titus comes in and puts Swagger down with some power moves and a big kick to the chops of Swagger! Cesaro tries stepping in, but Titus backhands him. The referee tries to restore order, but Cesaro is slow to get back to his corner. Zeb has words for him and behind their backs Titus nails Swagger with a big spinebuster. It is good enough for the win!

WINNERS: The Prime Time Players by pin in 5:34.

Mike's Reax: Nice, quick match from these four. Young is good at taking bumps and selling, then making the hot-tag to Titus, who can clean house with powerful, credible offense. The Real Americans have really fallen off since teaming up, though.

-The Players celebrate and do their little dance while the Americans fight over Cesaro not saving Swagger from taking the pinfall.

-Main Event is live from Las Vegas, so they show the fountain at Bellagio. Also, this week's Total Divas takes place in Vegas for Natalya’s bachelorette party. I can’t wait!

-I’m lying, I can wait.

-Raw Rebound featuring Daniel Bryan's struggle against Triple H and vandalizing Triple H’s gift to Randy Orton. Eventually, Daniel Bryan got his from The Shield, who jumped him three-on-one. The entire locker room was sent to the ramp to watch, but ordered to not help Bryan and watch him suffer. Randy Orton joined the party to deliver an RKO as an exclamation point on what The Shield did to Bryan.

-Kofi makes his way out, he faces Fandango next!

(Commercial. Ion had a commercial for Main Event and the commercial played up that John Cena was now on Ion Television every Wednesday for Main Event. I may be mistaken, but I believe Cena has only been on the show twice, once for a promo, and once for a match against Damien Sandow, and that was way back in November or December! I haven’t seen such blatant false advertising since Otto went into “Stoners Pot Palace” on The Simpsons!)

[Q4]

-Fandango comes out and shakes his rump for Summer Rae. They sashay to the ring as Kofi looks on disgusted.

3 - FANDANGO (w/Summer Rae) vs. KOFI KINGSTON

Alex Riley compares Fandango to John Morrison. Miz mentioned him last week, WWE must be wanting to bring him in or something. Riley then mentions how in sports and in sports entertainment, momentum is huge. How is momentum huge in sports entertainment? How is momentum big in a fixed game? Kofi gets the better of Fandango and works an armbar and wristlock.

Fandango is sent to the floor and Kofi takes him out with a springboard crossbody! Kofi makes eyes with Summer Rae, which gives Fandango an opportunity to recover and Kofi is hung up on the top rope by Fandango. Fandango whips Kofi into the steelpost shoulder-first, then Kofi falls to the apron and Main Event cuts to a break!

(Commercial)

Main Event returns at 6:25 with Fandango having Kofi on the ropes with a submission hold. Kofi escapes and tries some high-flying offense, but Fandango takes a big step to the left to avoid it! Fandango takes off Kofi’s elbow pad and goes to work on the arm. Working the arm of Kingston is smart because it…doesn’t let him do Trouble in Paradise…? Spinwheel kick from Fandango - shades of Owen Hart - gets a two count on Kofi.

Snap suplex by Fandango. He floats over to a pin attempt, but Kofi kicks out again. Fandango goes back to a keylock submission hold and Riley finally explains that Kofi had elbow surgery recently and this submission hold keeps him grounded, so now working the arm makes sense.
Kofi makes his comeback with a dropkicks, flying chops, and a Boom Drop. Kofi calls for Trouble in Paradise, but Summer grabs his ankle and Fandango pounces on Kofi. Fandango is about to DDT him or something when the referee calls for the bell, disqualifying Fandango.

WINNER: Kofi Kingston by DQ in 10:28.

-Fandango is giving Summer Rae the second degree for stepping in and costing him the match. The show fades out with Fandango furious with her.

Mike's Overall Reax: Sometimes I wonder why this show isn’t called Superstars instead of Main Event. The Main Event has been long gone from this show and I know I sound like a broken record, but I don’t play commercials touting the stars that appear on this show. The action is usually pretty good on this show, but it is filler at this point and nothing but decent wrestling for the sake of decent wrestling. The show has no hook to bring viewers over from Smackdown or Raw and no worthwhile matches that are worth hyping. I don’t understand how a company can have a commodity like this and waste it because it isn’t on Monday nights.
