WWE Saturday Morning Slam Results
February 2, 2013
Aired on CW - Episode #24
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor
This week's Saturday morning show started with a crowd shot inside the arena. The voice-over man plugged Zack Ryder vs. Dolph Ziggler in singles action tonight, then WWE recapped the end of last week's show when the match was set up. A highlight reel on Ziggler followed. Will "fun-loving" Zack Ryder be up for the task today?
In-ring: Dolph Ziggler was introduced first, which brought out Ziggler, A.J. Lee, and Big E. Langston. A.J. was dressed in an over-sized Ziggler t-shirt to be suitable for Saturday mornings. On commentary, Josh Mathews and Kofi Kingston set the stage for the show. Kofi, dressed in a sharp suit next to Mathews, noted he's on Slam commentary for the first time. Zack Ryder was then quickly introduced to the ring.
1 -- DOLPH ZIGGLER (w/A.J. Lee and Big E. Langston) vs. ZACK RYDER
Interestingly, Mathews brought up the WrestleMania Challenge between Ziggler and Ryder. Mathews said "once upon a time," the challenge was made, then he paused and moved on to other discussion without addressing the match's status. Ryder delivered offense, which sent Ziggler to the floor to recover with A.J. and Big. Back in the ring, Ryder knocked Ziggler to the outside, then delivered a plancha on the floor. Ryder stared down Big ringside before Slam went to break.

Ziggler was in control back from break. Ziggler "showed off" by doing ab crunches next to Ryder's body as A.J. and Big E. looked on approvingly, then cockily strutted around the ring. Kofi said he doesn't appreciate Ziggler doing that to Ryder. Ziggler settled into a chinlock, then transitioned to a hammerlock to keep Ryder grounded.
Ryder finally got aerial with a second-rope dropkick that put Ziggler in the corner. Ryder wanted the Broski Boot, but Ziggler moved out of the way. Ryder sold the effects of crashing into the corner, then Ziggler snatched him for the Zig-Zag. It was good for the pin and the win.
WINNER: Ziggler at 9:45.
Still to come: Wade Barrett in action. Looks like a chance for Barrett to end a 5-match losing streak on TV/PPV.
[Commercial Break]
Replay: Ziggler went for Broski Boot, but Ziggler moved and nailed the Zig-Zag for the win. The voice-over man then noted Ziggler still holds the World Title MITB briefcase, so Alberto Del Rio needs to watch his back.
Saturday Morning Spotlight: Wade Barrett's path of destruction, as narrated by audio clips from JBL and Josh Mathews on Smackdown commentary.
In-ring: IC champion Wade Barrett was introduced for the default main event of the show. Josh then thanked Kofi Kingston for keeping his composure out here considering their recent battles over the IC Title. Kofi said they don't like each other, but this is about Wade and Yoshi Tatsu today. Kofi said Yoshi has a fighting chance tonight because he kicks harder than anyone else in the locker room. Before the bell sounded, Wade mocked Kofi with the IC Title belt, drawing Kofi to his feet at the announce table.
2 -- Intercontinental champion WADE BARRETT vs. YOSHI TATSU -- non-title match
Something has to give with Barrett's 5 match losing streak up against Yoshi's 17 match losing streak going back to 2012. Barrett controlled the match early on, then Slam cut to break.
[Commercial Break. Elmo provided tips on how to brush your teeth. On that note, Snitsky will be appearing on next Wednesday's PWTorch Livecast with Pat McNeill!]
Barrett maintained control out of break as Kofi said this would be a huge victory for Yoshi's career if he could make a comeback. Yoshi then delivered a flying cross-body block that set up a pin attempt for a nearfall. Yoshi with a corner knee, then he built momentum for a move off the ropes, but Barrett intercepted with Winds of Change. It was good for the win, ending Yoshi's morning.
Post-match, Barrett celebrated in the ring while Mathews thanked Kofi for keeping his composure on commentary. Mathews signed off to end the show.
