WWE Main Event Results
December 5, 2012
Taped 12/04/12 in Charleston, S.C.
Aired on Ion Television
By Michael Cupach, PWTorch contributor

[Q1]

-WWE open.

-Main Event music video followed by full pyro. No “This week on…” guy. Apparently he only works shows on cable! Michael Cole is joined by The Miz. Cole breaks news that C.M. Punk underwent emergency surgery in Florida yesterday and questions how TLC will be affected. They show the letter sent out by Vince McMahon and say that they will have more info as the show rolls on.

-The Miz throws to a replay of last Wednesday and how tonight's main event came to be. For those who missed it, Kofi came out and challenged Cesaro to a champion versus champion match with no titles on the line to see who the greater champion is.

-Backstage, Josh Mathews is with Kofi and he asks him why he challenged Antonio tonight. Kofi said that he is known as the high-flying guy, but when he beat The Miz for the IC Title he had an inner intensity come out of him and that intensity made him challenge Cesaro and tonight the Wildcat will show his teeth! Poor Kofi, he keeps trying to get that Wildcat nickname over, but it just ain’t happening!

-Last Monday on Raw, Antonio Cesaro defended his U.S. Title in an impromptu Fatal Four-way match and retained.

-A highlight package of Antonio Cesaro and his short, yet successful career in WWE is shown. The video plays up that he isn’t American, but the U.S. Champion, and that no one from the United States can beat him.

-Antonio Cesaro makes his way to the ring. It should be noted that Lillian Garcia is back in the fold after her car accident a few weeks ago. Cesaro grabs the microphone and he says that he is still the champion even after a lop-sided match that almost guaranteed he would lose. Cesaro goes on to say that he works hard and that is why is still champion. He finishes up by saying that he doesn’t hate us, he pities us.

-Kofi Kingston makes his entrance. If he wants to be known as the Wildcat, why does he have a picture of a bat on his shirt? Oh crap, is that another nickname he is going to try out on the audience?

(Commercial)

-At TLC, Kofi Kingston will face Wade Barrett in an IC Title match. Also at TLC, Antonio Cesaro will defend his belt against R-Truth. The challengers are on commentary tonight.

1 - IC champion KOFI KINGSTON vs. U.S. champion ANTONIO CESARO – non-title match

Antonio Cesaro gets the upper hand against Kofi to start, pounding away at him in the corner. Kofi starts to fight back, but Cesaro cheap shots him. Antonio misses a charge in the corner, Kofi mounts the turnbuckle and punches him ten times in the head, Cesaro answers back with a uppercut to Kofi.

[Q2] Shoulder tackle by Cesaro, both men do a sequence of leapfrogs and Kofi back elbows Cesaro out of the ring. Kofi chases him out with a suicide dive! Cesaro makes it to the apron and blocks a suplex and instead knocks wrenches Kofi’s arm and rolls him into the ring. Armbar from Cesaro, he continues the assault on the injured limb as Barrett and R-Truth bicker. Gut wrench suplex by Cesaro gets a two count on Kingston. Cesaro misses another charge in the corner and runs into a pele kick. Kofi goes up top and jumps into an armbreaker, but Kofi rolls out of it. Cesaro keeps attacking the right arm of Kingston as Main Event goes to a commercial break 5:15 into the match!

(Commercial)

-Next Wednesday, Main Event moves to 6:30 p.m. EST for one week.

Back on Main Event at the 9:00 mark, Cesaro has Kofi in a deep seated keylock. Kofi kicks his way out of the hold, he goes to the middle rope and tries jumping off at Cesaro, but gets upper cutted in mid-air! Antonio tries a body slam on Kofi’s arm, but Kingston reverses it into a pin attempt, Antonio kicks out at two. Backbody drop by Kingston, he comes alive with a series of clotheslines and drop kicks. Kofi gets fired up and connects with a Boom Drop on Cesaro. Kofi calls for Trouble in Paradise, but Wade Barrett runs in and causes a DQ. Both heels double team Kingston, so R-Truth makes the save and they chase the heels off.

WINNER: Kofi Kingston by DQ in 11:35.

-R-Truth grabs the microphone and he channels his inner Teddy Long and offers to turn things into a tag team match. Everyone seems down with it and everyone knows what’s up.

2 - WADE BARRETT & ANTONIO CESARO vs. R-TRUTH & KOFI KINGSTON

Truth clotheslines Barrett to the floor, they quickly cut to a commercial.

(Commercial)

[Q3] Truth and Barrett are in the ring when Main Event returns. Truth is dominating Wade, he tags in Kofi, who nails Barrett with a running forearm in the corner. Tag into Cesaro who goes back to the injured arm of Kingston. Kofi backs into his corner and tags in Truth. Truth and Kofi double team Cesaro, then Truth drops a big leg across Cesaro's throat. Tag into Kofi, who comes off the top rope with a shoulder tackle. Kofi tries to put Antonio away, but comes up short. Kingston puts the boots to Antonio and then Cesaro overpowers Kofi and backs him into the heel corner. Barrett is tagged in and he goes to work on the injured arm, he short arm scissors the arm as the crowd gets behind the IC champion.

Tag into Cesaro who sotmps on Kofi’s bad arm,he goes back to another submission hold on Kofi, he stretches the arm and wrenches Kofi’s neck. Kofi monkey-flips Cesaro out of nowhere and tags in Truth. Truth catches Antonio’s leg and plays games with him, he drops him with a clothesline. Cesaro rolls to the floor, Kofi approaches Cesaro, but the ref calls him off. Truth chases Cesaro over to the heel side, Barrett cheap shots him, Cesaro rolls Truth in the ring. Barrett gets tagged in and puts the forearms to Truth. Big boot by Barrett, he follows it up with a rear chinlock. The crowd rallies behind Truth who counters his way out, but runs into a knee from Barrett.

(Commercial)

Main Event is back almost 16:00 minutes into the match. Barrett big-boots Truth to the floor. Cesaro gets tagged in, he throws Truth into the ring and stops him from tagging in Kofi. Front facelock from Cesaro, he floats over into a sleeper hold. Truth powers his way to his feet as a close up shows that Cesaro has absolutely no pressure on the hold. Truth breaks “the hold” and dropkicks Cesaro.

[Q4] Both men hot tag out, Kofi chops and dropkicks Barrett down. Wade tries a Bossman slam, but Kofi reverses into a roll-up for two. Cross-body for Kingston gets another two count. Barrett then slows him down with a big boot! Tag into Cesaro who walks into a SOS, Barrett breaks the count, so Truth takes him out with a Lie Detector. Trouble in Paradise gets blocked, Antonio tries the Neutralizer, but Truth blind tags in. Truth tries a sunset flip from the top rope, then Cesaro fights being pulled down, but Kofi nails him with Trouble in Paradise and Truth rolls him up for the win!

WINNERS: Kofi Kingston and R-Truth by pinfall in 19:53.

-Matt Striker is with the winners - he asks Kofi what he has in store for Wade Barrett at TLC, and Kofi says that he will bring the thunder to Wade. Same question for Truth. He says that no one wants a chump for champion, they want the Truth.

-Up next, breaking news on C.M. Punk and his injured knee.

(Commercial)

-Last Monday, Ryback assaulted C.M. Punk and as a result Punk had to undergo emergency surgery yesterday. Clips from the final segment of Raw are shown.

-Mr. McMahon has released a statement saying that Punk underwent successful surgery yesterday. Punk won’t be able to defend his title against Ryback at TLC, but he deserves a title shot in the future. Vince goes on to say that at TLC, Ryback will be in action, teaming with Team Hell No against The Shield in a TLC match that will be decided only by pinfall or submission. Cole then announces that next week Ryback will go one-on-one with Alberto Del Rio as the show closes with a picture of Ryback standing over a injured C.M. Punk from last Monday.

Mike’s Reax: In my opinion Main Event had its first dud. Kofi and Cesaro didn’t have much chemistry in the first match and it seemed plodding and poorly put together. The tag match was a slight improvement, but wandered aimlessly, so to speak. I don’t think it had the right guys going over and showed me that WWE is more interested in 50/50 booking than having someone have momentum or heat leading into a PPV match. Even the video package on Cesaro was lacking this week, as it felt thrown together and didn’t do much to really show who Antonio Cesaro is and what he is really capable of. Let’s call this a fluke off week.
