WWE Superstars TV Results
April 7, 2011 - Year 2, Week 52 (episode #104 overall)
Taped the Week of Apr. 7
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor

This week's final episode of WWE Superstars on WGN opened with Smackdown's Jack Korpela and Matt Striker plugging the aftermath of WrestleMania and John Cena vs. The Rock set for next year's WrestleMania. As Drew McIntyre came out, Korpela went right for the hyperbole calling The Undertaker vs. Triple H the best match he's ever seen. JTG was out next and Striker noted JTG brought a number of kids from Brooklyn to Atlanta to experience WrestleMania.

1 -- JTG vs. DREW MCINTYRE

The announcers noted McIntyre is upset he didn't receive the title shot against Edge at WrestleMania, especially after Del Rio didn't get the job done. Back to Hunter-Taker, Striker said everything was right about the match, including the voices calling the match. McIntyre dominated JTG early on, but walked into a back body drop that gave JTG an opening. JTG scored successive nearfalls, including a close two count following a DDT, but McIntyre blocked the Mug Shot with a big boot to the face. McIntyre got that look in his eyes and grappled JTG to deliver the Future Shock DDT for the pin and the win.

WINNER: McIntyre at 4:38. Although it's Superstars, good to see focus on McIntyre, who looked strong coming out of the Elimination Chamber PPV, but was given nothing to work with on the way to WrestleMania.

Hall of Fame video: They went back to the 2011 Hall of Fame ceremony to show highlights of each induction, specifically Shawn Michaels.

[Commercial Break]

After a plug for WrestleMania 28 in Miami next April, they came back with Yoshi Tatsu's music for the first match from the Raw side. Raw announcers Scott Stanford and Josh Mathews were shown on-camera to talk up WrestleMania and the recovery time needed after the events at Mania. Tyson Kidd was out next to face Yoshi.

2 -- YOSHI TATSU vs. TYSON KIDD

Nice start to this one with some athletic back-and-forth while Stanford ribbed Mathews about taking a Stunner from Stone Cold at WrestleMania. Kidd then tried a move off the ropes, but Yoshi dropkicked him over the top rope to the floor. Stanford with an early "house of fire" reference as Yoshi stood his ground in the ring in control of the action.

[Commercial Break]

Back from break, Yoshi scored with a crucifix pin for a two count, but Kidd quickly cut off Yoshi with a clothesline and went to work on his opponent again. Stanford tried to get Mathews to "go there" cutting a promo on Michael Cole, but Mathews opted to ignore Cole's "performance" at Mania. A mid-ring double knock down put both men on the mat. Yoshi was the first up and delivered knife-edge chops followed by a kick strike. Next was a running knee to the face for a two count.

Yoshi opted to take it to the top rope for his next offensive attack, but he took too long and Kidd crotched him on the top turnbuckle. Kidd followed with a Frankensteiner and quickly made a cover for a two count. Kidd teased the Sharpshooter next, but Yoshi kicked him away to avoid. Kidd then went for a springboard dive, but Yoshi ducked, then smashed Kidd with a roundhouse kick for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Yoshi at 9:55. That was a heck of a TV singles match to close off WWE's WGN run. (**1/2)

[Commercial Break]

Raw Replay: They aired a real-time replay of John Cena and The Rock's confrontation to conclude Raw setting up their WrestleMania 28 encounter, plus The Corre interrupting the moment before they were cleared out by Rock and Cena.

In-ring: Santino, sans Tamina, was out first for the TV main event. Santino shook hands with Justin Roberts before they cut to break.

[Commercial Break]

3 -- SANTINO MARELLA vs. TED DIBIASE

No Maryse with DiBiase here. The match was taped prior to Tuesday's NXT developments, rending Stanford's commentary dated wondering about the relationship status between DiBiase and Maryse. Santino and DiBiase traded mat holds, then they came to a standstill. Santino offered a handshake, but DiBiase brushed him off. This made Santino quite upset. Meanwhile, Stanford complained about getting shorted $20 at Axxess. Santino and DiBiase came to another standstill, then DiBiase offered a handshake. Santino, so excited, took the bait and walked into a punch to the face. DiBiase gloated as Santino rolled to the floor as they cut to break.

[Commercial Break]

Back from break, DiBiase was working over Santino in the ring with a reverse chinlock. Santino made his way to his feet and pumped his feet to build momentum for a chinbreaker on DiBiase, who absorbed the blow and dropped Santino again for a two count. Eight minutes in, Stanford noted Tamina was absent from Santino's side. He wanted the dirt, which drew Mathews's ire. DiBiase then scored another nearfall as the announcers noted this is when DiBiase has struggled recently trying to maintain his focus finishing off an opponent.

DiBiase kept on Santino, but Santino continued to escape pin attempts. DiBiase then pounded Santino to a seated position to the corner, drawing the ref's ire. DiBiase went for a flying corner attack, but Santino comically just fell on his face to sell the effects and avoided the move in the process. Santino then got the adrenaline rush to make a comeback, but DiBiase cut him off with a boot to the gut. DiBiase found an opening to grapple Santino for Dream Street, but Santino countered with an overhead toss. Santino then warmed up The Cobra and jabbed DiBiase in the throat for the pin and the win. Santino finishes off WWE's WGN run with a win.

Post-match: Mathews noted DiBiase was in control for the most part, but Santino just needs a few seconds. As Santino did the trumpet celebration, Stanford signed off for Superstars without so much as a word about this being the final episode on WGN.

WINNER: Santino at 10:50. Strong main event trying to get over DiBiase's aggressive streak, while Santino showed a more serious side to his in-ring abilities. To WWE's credit, they are trying to establish The Cobra as more than just a comedy finisher, but as a legitimate move. Santino taking a more serious tone to his matches helps in that area. (**)
