PPV Evaluation - WWE Battleground
By Nathan Kyght, PWTorch PPV specialist

BEST MATCH – THE USOS VS. THE WYATTS

To be specific, the last of the three falls is what cemented this match into this category. As with a lot of "Best 2/3 Falls" matches, the crowd realizes there is almost certainly going to be a third fall, so they patiently wait for the match to get to that point. The result is the competitors score pinfalls to moves that are nowhere near as devastating as what each team ends up kicking out of during the deciding fall. But, I digress, as I'm coming off as critical and on a night that I think we can safely say was a 'WWE miss' on PPV, but this match was terrific. The final fall was as good as anything these two teams have done together, and I'm still not sick of seeing them square off. Just an awesome opener.

WORST MATCH – A.J. LEE VS. PAIGE

I think these two have a great match in them, perhaps at Summerslam, but this one didn't click. It'll help with a clear-cut heel and babyface, so I'm looking forward to the re-match.

BIGGEST SURPRISE – THE MIZ?

Now, I'm not as down on The Miz as it seems most people are - I actually think the new "Hollywood star" gimmick is entertaining, but how in the world was the IC Title battle royal not won by Caesaro?! WWE seems to give a guy a losing streak to throw the crowd off the scent, but now that The Miz has emerged triumphant, what was the point of Caesaro losing to Kofi Kingston every week? Anyone?

BEST MOVE – REIGNS SPEARS ORTON

The crowd in Tampa ran hot and cold all night, but Roman Reigns putting Orton through the barricade injected some life into the proceedings.

BEST MATCH FINISH – JERICHO WINS!

I think most felt that Bray Wyatt would emerge victorious in the first match of his presumably summer-long series with the returning Y2J, but this was the right call. Jericho winning the first match gives Wyatt a reason to come back more diabolical, and hopefully this builds to a re-match at Summerslam. This wasn't a bad match, but I think the two can have a better match. We'll see.

OTHER THOUGHTS

This show, more than any show in recent memory, came across as an episode of Raw. Nothing was great, there seemed to be a lull in the middle, and I can't really say I felt like I saw anything special. And keep in mind, I live in Canada, so this show cost me $60. It wasn't worth that.

The bait and switch of what many presumed would be the best match of the night, Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose, was annoying. Sure, there was a brawl, but I just can't see the mentality behind getting people to pay for something (be it a network subscription or not) and then not delivering. A bad move.

WHAT IT'LL BE REMEMBERED FOR

Meh. A total middle of the road show that felt like the WWE just had to get it over with so as they can head to Summerslam. Nothing outright terrible, but forgettable.
