WWE Battleground PPV Report
July 20, 2014
Tampa, Fla.
Aired on WWE Network
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor

PPV Pre-Show

Renee Young was introduced as the host of the panel with the usual suspects Booker T and Alex Riley, plus guest panelist Christian.

Ringside, Michael Cole was introduced with Jerry Lawler and JBL, who talked a mile-a-minute about something. Fandango was then introduced for the opening match sans dance partner after being ditched by Layla and Summer Rae. Adam Rose was introduced as Fandango's opponent, then he brought out Layla and Rae as honorary Rosebuds for the evening. Lawler not-so-subtly offered a line: "Those two will dance with anyone." After Rose entered the ring, Fandango took exception to his former dance partners hanging out with Rose.

A -- FANDANGO vs. ADAM ROSE (w/Layla, Summer Rae, and the Rosebuds)

The match started with Fandango aggressively attacking Rose, then Layla and Fandango led a Rosebud parade around ringside. Fandango took exception, confronted them, and they slapped him. Fandango angrily ran back into the ring, where Rose lit up Fandango. Party Foul followed for a quick three count and the win.

WINNER: Rose at 1:20.

Video Packages: Four-way match for the WWE Title when the real show starts. Then, a video package on Seth Rollins ending The Shield, joining The Authority, and the start of a heated Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose feud.

Panel: Renee Young followed up on the Rollins vs. Ambrose issue by asking Christian about facing Edge during his career.

Tale of the Tape: Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt, who was listed in tiny print from Brooksville, Fla., despite the character being from the swamps of Louisiana.

Backstage: Tom Phillips brought in WWE tag champs The Usos for an interview ahead of defending the Tag Titles against The Wyatts in a 2/3 Falls match. Jimmy said gets one pinfall and Jey gets the other pinfall. Jey vowed to bring the A-Game, but Jimmy took exception to him saying he's the better-looking Uso. They agreed to disagree and take out the Wyatts.

In-ring: Cameron was introduced for the next pre-show match. After a review of how The Funkadactlys split up, Naomi was introduced as her opponent.

B -- NAOMI vs. CAMERON

Naomi charged the ring and took it to Cameron early on, but Cameron absorbed Naomi's attack and used a schoolgirl to pin Naomi. Fitting since Cameron was dressed in an odd schoolgirl outfit. Cameron quickly hit the entrance ramp to gloat a safe distance from Naomi, who vowed to get revenge from inside the ring.

WINNER: Cameron at 3:30. The late insider PPV betting money went to Cameron, so this was a last-minute shift in the booking. Cameron was a +320 favorite earlier in the day, then she shifted to a -420 favorite. Not a good match, as Naomi couldn't carry the inexperienced Cameron.

Panel: Renee Young re-introduced Booker, Christian, and Riley for final thoughts on the Battleground PPV.
