Report by James Caldwell (@JCTorch), PWTorch assistant editor
The live half-hour pre-show started with Josh Mathews introducing the show. The Superstar Panel tonight is Alex Riley, Booker T, and Santino. The trio broke down the top matches of Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE Title and C.M. Punk vs. Team Heyman.
At the Social Lounge area, Renee Young plugged a Tag Team Poll to promote the five-team pre-show match.
Backstage: Paul Heyman was selling concern over tonight before Raw GM Brad Maddox walked in to ask Heyman what's wrong with him. Heyman said Maddox essentially wrote his execution by booking him in a handicap match against C.M. Punk tonight. Heyman said Punk is going to slaughter, massacre, and kill him if Punk finds a way around Curtis Axel tonight. Unless. Unless Heyman punches the ref right in the mouth to create a DQ. Then, any post-match attack would result in felonious assault. Heyman thought he got the best of Maddox, but Maddox noted that wouldn't be good for business, so he made the match a No DQ match. Heyman sold concern as Maddox casually walked off.
Next up, Mathews and the Panel reacted to the No DQ stipulation before sending it down to ringside for a word from Michael Cole, JBL, and Jerry Lawler. Justin Roberts then ring-announced the rules for Tag Team Turmoil, noting it's essentially a gauntlet match. Out first was 3MB, represented by Drew McIntyre and Heath Slater, followed by Tons of Funk.
A -- TAG TEAM TURMOIL MATCH -- #1 contender to the Tag Titles
Drew McIntyre busted out a flying splash early in the match, but his offense was short-lived, as Tons of Funk scored a pin moments later for the first elimination.
*** 3MB eliminated at 1:31 ***
Real Americans hit the ring next. Antonio Cesaro and Jack Swagger beat down Tons of Funk before WWE cut to a mid-match promotional break.
[Break]
Back from "break," Swagger put Brodus Clay in jeopardy with the Patriot Lock. Clay fought the hold, but tapped out.
*** Tons of Funk eliminated at 4:53 ***
The Usos were out next. Jimmy and Jey crashed onto the Real Americans with some high-flying action, but couldn't put them away. Real Americans then took control of the action before leading the crowd in a "We The People" declaration. No decision leading to another mid-match interruption.
[Break]
Back from break, Jack Swagger went for the Patriot Lock again on Uso. Swagger got the tap-out, giving the Real Americans another decision.
*** Usos eliminated at 9:11 ***
Out last were the Prime Time Players. Titus O'Neil and Darren Young quickly targeted Swagger, but Swagger fought back with a chopblock to Titus. Swagger tried the Patriot Lock again, but D-Young broke it up. Titus then tagged in Young, who walked right into the Patriot Lock. But, Young fought out and then hit a fallaway gutbuster across his knees for the pin and the win. The Players get the Tag Title shot later tonight.
WINNERS: Players at 11:03 to earn a Tag Title shot on the PPV.
