TNA Final Resolution PPV Evaluation 12/9

BEST MATCH – A.J. STYLES VS. CHRISTOPHER DANIELS
I’m not sure that TNA has it in them to make the apparent year-long build to Bound for Glory about A.J. Styles getting back into a title match (this is a company that has pulled the rug out from under a talent as great as James Storm at every chance they’ve had), but I’m definitely intrigued. This match was by far the highlight of the show, with Styles playing up his frustration perfectly and Daniels maintaining what has been a career-high run for him as of late. This was a great match, with a very smart finish in Styles's greatest rival ending their feud using the Styles Clash. Another terrific contest in a long line of them.
WORST MATCH – CHAVO GUERRERO/HERNANDEZ VS. MATT MORGAN/JOEY RYAN
Guerrero and Hernandez have had good matches with Daniels and Kazarian (although everyone has good matches with them), but this match didn’t click at all. The Joey Ryan character seems to be a parody of a controversial wrestling gimmick: catchphrases, posing, and not much else. The pairing with Matt Morgan also doesn’t do anything for me. And let’s all take a minute and reflect on the fact that they may have christened their tag team “Big Morgan and the Big Organ." To clarify, Vince Russo is no longer booking.
BIGGEST SURPRISE – KENNY KING LOSES
Kenny King, a great wrestler who left ROH for a TNA run in the midst of an ROH Tag Title run, was brought in to TNA for what was seemingly a star-making run...and then he vanished for a while and was pinned by RVD here. RVD is fine, sure. But is there much left there draw-wise? Should he not be there to get new talent over? This was an odd decision on an otherwise unexceptional show...That cost money.
BIGGEST LETDOWN – ACES & EIGHTS RUN-IN
Are the Aces & Eights over at all? Do they win matches? Did someone in TNA Creative just watch ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and think that they’d draw a crowd from that fanbase? This angle just isn’t working at all. The crowd doesn’t care, they tend to lose their matches, and then they did a run-in that was essentially a plot set up to get Austin Aries over. Who isn’t in the group. “But wait!” cry the TNA dedicated. “What if he IS in the group?” I guess I’m just bored with waiting.
BEST QUOTE – JEFF HARDY’S BRAIN
I don’t want to come across crazy here...but I can hear his thoughts.
BEST MOVE – DANIELS
The Styles Clash to end the feud (allegedly) was a great moment, and a perfect way to further Styles’s “fall from grace." Nice.
BEST MATCH FINISH – A.J. STYLES VS. CHRISTOPHER DANIELS
This was far and away the highlight of the night on an otherwise middle of the road show. The crowd unfortunately didn’t help, but these two can do no wrong against one another.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- James Storm opens the show dressed to wrestle, and then chastises Kazarian for having “all day to come up with” his promo. Yet neither man was supposed to wrestle. Boo, writers. Boooooooo.
- Bully Ray and Austin Aries were having a really good match before the silly ending where Brooke Hogan came down and Hulk Hogan had to get her away from the ring. Bully Ray and Austin Aries are awesome. Imagine if they were allowed to have a normal match here? TNA could have had A.J. Lee come out on Impact and do something to this effect. Sorry, I meant Brooke.
- Tara and Mickie James had a nice match, with the added bonus of Big Brother Jesse, who is fantastic in his role. Nicely done.
- Kurt Angle and two members of Aces & Eights (Shh. It’s a secret.) beat the other members of Aces & Eights. Angle looked great, but he always does.
- Jeff Hardy and Bobby Roode had a good main event, as well, but by that point the Impact Zone was in complete silence. The ending was lousy as well, and definitely detracted from the good work up until then.
WHAT IT’LL BE REMEMBERED FOR
Nothing, really. The majority of the happenings seemed to lead into Impact, and the in-ring was unexceptional except for Daniels and Styles.
