Wake the pets and call the neighbors. It's time for our DGUSA internet pay-per-view preview column!
DISCLAIMER: Projections are made by myself and for myself with absolutely no assistance from Gabe Sapolsky or Sal "Amway" Hamaoui. No one knows the contents of these projections, but I, in my divine and mystical way, will ascertain the finishes to these matches despite not being caught up on my Dragon Gate DVD's. Some of our departing contestants will receive the Pathfinder Revolution LT wheeled luggage set. High performance luggage with style and quality, Pathfinder is best of the best for experienced travelers. Furnished by Paragon Luggage. And remember, if you land on "Bankrupt", you lose your cash but not your prizes, 'cause once you buy a prize, it's yours to keep. Remember, this is only an exhibition. This is not a competition. Please, please, no wagering. This lineup is based on the best available information as of this writing.
If you missed it, DGUSA Vice President Gabe Sapolsky joined Sean Radican and myself for the PWTorch Livecast on Wednesday. In fact, I believe Mr. Sapolsky appeared on every single podcast on the web this week, including Bronyville. Gabe claims that Dragon Gate is not star driven, but the real star this weekend is Yamato. The DGUSA champ is headlining all three shows this weekend, and that's probably for the best.
But the good news is, Gabe and DGUSA have finally established the American wrestlers as stars, to the point where Rich Swann hold the Dragon Gate comedy title, and Ricochet is one-half of the Dragon Gate Tag Team Champions. That's good, because it's easier to pay the trans for Swann and Ricochet than it is to fly in Masaaki Mochizuki and Naruki Doi.
Before we get to our picks, let's do today's Wrestling History Lesson. Back on July 10, 2008, it was Yamato teaming with CIMA and Cyber Kong against the trio of B.B. Hulk, Naruki Doi and Masato Yoshino. If the Japanese commentary bothers you, just say "Wait a minute" or "He flies through the air with the greatest of ease" every minute, and pretend you're watching Smackdown.
And, as your free gift for viewing this column, let's take you back to February 10th of this year, and the "Truth Gate 2011" show at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. One of the big DGUSA feuds of 2011, the feud between PAC and Ricochet, comes to a head this weekend. Here they are on opposite sides of a tag match, as Ricochet & Dragon battle PAC & Super Shisa. You might enjoy this.
Now, on with the projections for this weekend pay-per-stream triple shot. I'm picking my favorite lineup of the three shows, "Bushido 2011," (the Saturday afternoon show in Philly) for a detailed analysis. Remember, you don't have to watch all three shows as they happen (unless your name is Sean Radican, and it's your job.)
Friday Night picks: It's "DGUSA Revolt" in Revere. I will take Arik Cannon & Pinkie Sanchez over The Scene, Sami Callihan over Jon Davis, Chuck Taylor & Johnny Gargano to defeat CIMA & Brodie Lee, Masato Yoshino to beat Akira Tozawa, PAC to win the six-man Fray, and BxB Hulk to beat Yamato in the non-title main event.
On to Saturday!
Bonus Match: Let's go with Uhaa Nation & Jon Davis scoring a quick victory over The Scene.
A.R. Fox vs. Masato Yoshino: On the one hand, Fox is a good fit for the style, and the Gate-heads love him. On the other hand, this is Yoshino we're talking about. Projection? Yoshino by submission with the Sol Naciente.
Rich Swann vs. Akira Tozawa: This is a battle between Junction Three and the Blood Warriors. Let's go with the cooler faction. Projection? Tozawa wins with the Tozawa Driver.
Brodie Lee vs. PAC: This is what happens When Styles Collide. Projection? PAC wins with the British Airways. I know, it's looking bad for the Yanks so far.
Johnny Gargano vs. B.B. Hulk: Hulk will be coming off his win over Yamato, and Gargano has his title shot on Sunday in Manhattan. I don't know what will happen, but i know what should happen. Projection? Gargano scores the upset with the Hurts Donut.
Sabu vs. Pinkie Sanchez (South Philly Street Fight): If anyone is actually showing up to watch Sabu, they're not in the building to see Sabu lose. Projection? The genocidal one drops Pinkie after an Arabian Facebuster.
CIMA & Ricochet vs. Sami Callihan & Arik Cannon (Dragon Gate United States Tag Titles): The Dirty Ugly Freaks will make this a more physical bout than your average Dragon Gate tag team match, but I can't see the champs dropping this one. Projection? Ricochet pins Cannon with the Chocolate Rain.
Yamato vs. Chuck Taylor (Dragon Gate United States Championship): It would be a lot of fun to see The Kentucky Gentleman cut some promos as the DGUSA champion, but I'm not holding my breath. Projection? Yamato hits Taylor with the Galleria to keep the title.
Aftermath: As for Sunday night in New York City, I will take Brodie Lee over B.J. Whitmer, Akira Tozawa & BxB Hulk to defeat Ronin, the Dirty Ugly Freaks over Sabu & Friends, Masato Yoshino over CIMA, PAC over Ricochet, Yamato over Johnny Gargano, and the New York Jets to beat the New England Patriots.
