In a follow up on our earlier report that former WWE CEO Linda McMahon's Connecticut Senate chances improved overnight, Politico.com reports McMahon's Senate campaign helped feed information to the New York Times for their report questioning McMahon's potential Senate opponent, Richard Blumenthal.

Politico, a leading political news outlet in Washington, D.C., reports McMahon's campaign is "doing little to discourage suggestions it provided the sort of opposition research to The Times that is known around campaigns as an 'oppo dump.'"

A spokesman for McMahon, apparently unaware of how laughable the following statement is when looking at McMahon's record as chief executive of the undisputed leader in an industry with a horrible health record, said: "As we have researched Dick Blumenthal's record, we've discovered some very troubling disparities between what he's said and the facts. This is a serious blow to his credibility."

The National Journal reports: "The revelations appear to be the result of a long research project undertaken by ex-WWE CEO Linda McMahon, who is leading the GOP primary field for the right to take on Blumenthal in Nov. McMahon has spent millions on her campaign, but so far her poll numbers lag far behind Blumenthal's. Now, she has the opportunity to change that."

The timing of WWE reportedly assisting The Times in their attention-grabbing and buzz-generating report on McMahon's chief political opponent in the general election is interesting. McMahon still has Republican opponent Richard Simmons to contest, but her campaign appears to be looking ahead to November against Blumenthal.

From the "maybe it's something or maybe it's a coincidence" department, it's worth noting The Times broke the news last Sunday that Buzz Aldrin would be the guest-host for a big commercial-free WWE Raw last night.

With The Times apparently having an exclusive on the news, WWE waited until after the paper reported the story last Sunday night before making it official with a press release.

Throughout McMahon's Senate campaign, WWE and Linda McMahon have given the appearance they continue to maintain a close relationship despite McMahon resigning as CEO and leaving her board position. Also, Linda's husband, WWE CEO Vince McMahon, finally hit the campaign trail for Linda a few weeks ago.

WWE and the New York media have a long history of working together to advance WWE's business, specifically dating back to the 1980s when WWE took out of the territories and reached a national audience.

McMahon's Senate campaign reportedly giving The Times "an assist" on researching Blumenthal's apparently misleading Vietnam War record appears to be the latest example of the McMahons working with the New York media to advance a professional interest.
