- WWE Raw comes to us from the U.K. tonight on a tape-delayed basis. We'll have our usual live coverage starting at 9:00 p.m. EST with the headline match of Santino Marella vs. William Regal for the Intercontinental Title. Also on the show, follow-up on Batista losing the World Title to Chris Jericho on last week's show, and more build-up to the Shawn Michaels vs. JBL program that will lead to a match at Survivor Series, based on JBL's interview this weekend.
- TNA is taping Impact tonight in Orlando with a promise of three title matches and Scott Steiner vs. Rhino on the card. Chances are Steiner won't have to worry about checking PWTorch.com to determine if he scored a four-star match with that one. TNA hasn't indicated which three titles will be on the line, but we can probably assume Eric Young will get his X Division Title shot against Sheik Bashir.
- Meanwhile, Christy Hemme posted a new column on TNA's website talking about breaking down the emotional wall covering herself that prevented deep relationships from forming with friends and colleagues. Interesting article to read, as it reads like something TNA would present on TV in Rough Cut form to build up a program for Christy as one of the remaining babyfaces on the Knockouts roster. Worth Reading.
Excerpt: My passion for wrestling is exploding from being held for so long. I do have to say, sitting on the sidelines has been extremely beneficial. Its like I spent all that time downloading info that I can now deliver and express in a way I couldn't keeping the wall I did. I've started training again, and have to give HUGE thank you's to A.J. Styles, Samoa Joe, and Jimmy Rave... hurting has never felt so good!
- As more and more fall-out occurs from the U.S. economy's summer meltdown, WWE is concerned about potential DVD distribution with Genius Products, which has helped WWE show tremendous growth in the consumer products department.
Genius is reportedly in financial trouble and they filed an extension with the SEC to report third quarter 2008 earnings later in the month, specifically next Monday. WWE said in its conference call with investors that their executives are talking very closely with Genius's executives to ensure the long-term stability of Genius's operations.
WWE's home video sales in the third quarter were $43.5 million compared to $33.9 million in the prior year quarter, so this is one growth area in WWE that they can't afford to take a hit if Genius has to make cutbacks or loses financial stability. Stay tuned.
- A brief news item today on WWE renaming the WWE 24/7 on-demand service to WWE Classics on Demand. In a Multichannel News report, a WWE executive chimed in that the change "better reflects the content of our service, chronicling the rich heritage of the sports entertainment industry." I'm not sure how changing "24/7" to "Classics" captures that, but it's not my job to talk in corporate-speak.
The change did have an indirect effect of prompting me to check out what's new on Classics. The Miz is hosting some segments this month looking at past "music video" offerings in pro wrestling, including the 1986 AWA WrestleRock Rumble promotional music video. It's life-changing if you haven't seen it before, and probably a horrifying (or great) trip down memory line great for our AWA fans who probably remember this all too well. Notable names: Shawn Michaels, Scott Hall, Curt Hennig, Gagnes, Blackwell, Zbyszko, and more. You can check out more from WWE's Classics on Demand clips on youtube.
- Congratulations to Ted DiBiase, Jr., who was recently married in Mississippi. DiBiase married Kristen Tynes in Madison, Miss. on October 30. The Clinton Administration blog has details on the wedding.
- Remember Steve Corino? Well, Corino wants you to remember him when he faces Stevie "podcast" Richards on December 20 in Philadelphia under the Velocity Pro Wrestling banner. Corino's promo for the match is below as Corino "plays a little history, if you will."
- Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin found use for a Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter issue from 1995 to cut a promo and write down a few items on Shelley's "list of things he can't buy anymore" after losing an independent title in this youtube clip below. The classic 1995 headline and format look is on display for newer subscribers who haven't picked up some 10 years ago hard copy issues in the Torch store. Don't delay. Act now!
