READER REAX #3: Did you ever watch TNA and if so, why did you stop? "To win me back? They'd have to make Samoa Joe the Champion for a long run."

Today we are asking: We're asking you today, though, have you ever watched TNA Impact? How long did you watch it? What caused you to watch it at first and, if you've stopped, what caused you to stop watching it? And finally, is there anything they could do that would cause you to start watching it regularly again?

Joe from North Carolina: I started watching TNA when it premiered on Spike, mainly for the X Division and more Japanese Style of Wrestling. I lost interest when Hulk Hogan became the centerpiece and matches became second to convoluted storylines. They started to win me back with the New York Tapings and Bobby Lashley as a strong champ. But then they took the belt off Lashely in the middle of a great run. To win me back? They'd have to make Samoa Joe the Champion for a long run.

Ben S. of Rabun Gap, Ga.: I still watch TNA, realizing I'm in the minority. I do it in part because I want to see a viable alternative to WWE - a company not without its own flaws, as you've pointed out - and because of the same reason I come to your site nearly every day. I just generally love wrestling. That said, the "sport" is changing, and TNA should be doing more to establish themselves as a viable alternative to the mother ship. I've grown far more frustrated by their desire - clearly evident most times - to try cheap ripoffs of old storylines (Eric Young as champ right after Daniel Bryan won, AJ Styles's "Sting" quest) rather than trying to break new ground on their own. I've also felt they dropped the ball - badly - on beating WWE to independent talent. I do wish they had a Jim Ross or Paul Heyman-type running things, that they put an emphasis more on in-ring competition, and that the X-Division carried more weight, but to question their value without recognizing El Torito or Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz trading a once-proud belt or appearances by people who have nothing to do with the product at all for the sake of a cheap pop culture plug is a bit disingenuous to me. So I'll watch it for the Austin Aries moments, for the humor that Rockstar Spud brings (I actually like the little guy), and for guys like Davey and Eddie, Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode, James Storm, and Co. They're the reason I like the product to begin with.

Glen. H. asks: I watched TNA from October 2005 (Unbreakable PPV) until December 2009 (Final Resolution PPV). I started watching because of Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles, and Christopher Daniels at Unbreakable 2005. I stopped watching after Final Resolution PPV 2009 (which I loved) because Hulk Hogan & Eric Bischoff were coming in and I realized TNA was going in the wrong direction - especially when they decided to drop the Styles, Daniels, and Joe stuff that I was really enjoying toward the end of 2009. I would go back to watching if they went back to focusing on Joe, Styles, Daniels, and other wrestlers who brought in viewers and built the company during its best years and feature them as the main stars - because they earned their positions and earned my viewership and my respect. I would suggest talking to Ring of Honor about merging and adopting the Ring of Honor name and some of its history for credibility (list of ex ROH champions like Joe, Punk, Danielson, Black). Do an invasion if you must, but TNA has to lose.

Send us your thoughts, too! We are asking: Have you ever watched TNA Impact? How long did you watch it? What caused you to watch it at first and, if you've stopped, what caused you to stop watching it? And finally, is there anything they could do that would cause you to start watching it regularly again? Keep it pithy, around 200 words. Send to pwtorch@gmail.com.
