WWE NXT Reax #2: "Slater & Christian could one day re-create the magic of Edge & Christian"

-- 3/9 WWE NXT Reax

Bill Sartori of Windsor Locks, Conn., freelance reporter (6.5): I love seeing The Miz slapped down and pinned. He's a solid heel. The show was much better than last week's, as it focused on more actual matches than the BS soap opera crap. Now it sounds like Josh Matthews is auditioning for a heel announcer role, referencing Michael Cole simply as "Cole." Just give it up both of you and leave the idiocy to Striker.

John of Cocoa Beach, Fla., writer (5.0): Best Match: Anything with Daniel Bryan. Worst match: none. From what I saw last night, it's apparent the NXT concept is being used to get Daniel Bryan and Heath Slater onto the main roster as soon as possible. Actually, I was hoping Daniel Bryan would be pinned, "fired" by The Miz, and then have Teddy Long in a surprise appearance offer Bryan an immediate contract for Smackdown with a future title match against the Miz. Slater and Christian could be a great tag team. They could one day re-create the magic of Edge & Christian years ago, but I'm concerned Slater's hair gets shorter each week, so by Summerslam will Slater's hair be Batista's length? Otunga has that badass potential that can lead to him being a big star like the late Bad News Brown. Or, he could end up forgotten like Kama Mustafa. Wade Barrett reminded me of the Blue Bloods tag team that ironically then Steven Regal, now William Regal was a part of. I'm still at a loss for what the grading system of talent by the mentors is, and does anyone get cut on the show? Still NXT is a unique concept, and I don't miss the McMahon-branded ECW one bit, especially since we don't see the Abraham Washington show. I predict that Vance Archer re-appears at the Money in the Bank match at WrestleMania 26 to attack Shelton Benjamin and cost him the briefcase with a title shot, and that will continue their feud on Smackdown.

Richard H. of Wilmington, Ohio (6.0): For a Best Match/Worst Match, nothing stands out overall with the exception of Justin Gabriel's awesome 450 splash. It was nice to see that the pros/mentors will put rookies over other than their own guy, often to their detriment. It was also good to see C.M. Punk and Silly Hair interacting and advancing an actual storyline. My hope is that Daniel(son) gets to "divorce" his pro and jump straight to Smackdown working programs with their more agile wrestlers. Otunga is so "been there, done that, seen it before" that I have a hard time remembering anything he has done or said without referencing past wrestlers that already did it. Without a doubt, the least promising to me is Tarver 1.9, who appears to be nothing more than a glorified striker with very limited wrestling ability. Right now, NXT is giving me very little reason to tune in every week other than idle curiosity.
