Joe Ward of Raleigh, N.C. (7.0): Best: Opening Segment. Worst: Rob Terry vs. Doug Williams. I enjoyed last night's show. It wasn't perfect, but I'm beginning to see where they are going. The pace has dramatically slowed down, and they've stepped away from trying to feature the entire roster every week. I know some people are complaining about that, but I like it. It was great to see Beer Money and the Machineguns this week and nice to NOT see 3D or Nastys. Also, no Nash or The Band other than a recap. The emergence of a Flair Stable anchored by A.J. and Desmond Wolfe has great potential and this pacing is giving TNA that intangible "let's see what and who is going to featured this week" feeling. A.J. and Flair are money and A.J.'s promo with the slower, controlled delivery reminding me of Arn Anderson was money. Bischoff and Jarrett have developed some really good chemistry and salvaged what was a DOA angle when Jarrett first returned. Angelina Love might be TNA's biggest self-made break-out star. She is money. I thought the closing segment was strong with Flair in the classic Crimson Mask to make it look like a big deal. Flair-Hogan is more intriguing to me than Hart-McMahon largely because they are using themselves to give the rub to A.J. and Abyss rather than headlining one-on-one. The only down-side is that Flair's natural charisma steals most scenes he's in.
Thomas Starr of Deland, Fla., Massage Therapist (0.0): I tried. I gave TNA a chance. I got excited about The Pope and Mr. Anderson. I was interested in what they would do with Abyss. Then, Samoa Joe was kidnapped. Abyss got a magic ring. They had a hot angle with Pope being injured by Ric Flair and A.J. Styles only to have Pope return to no fanfare. Mr. Anderson is dressing up like Kurt Angle in a bad Crash TV skit. Even worse we're supposed to get excited about two 50+ year-olds wrestling in 2010. Not to mention two 40+ years-old (Hall and Nash) who can't go anymore because of their numerous injuries being built up to...well something. Another 40+ year-old is going to Etiquette school. To what end? I mean this is a wrestling show. Where does this go? Does Mick Foley fight his etiquette teacher? Because that sounds better than Flair-Hogan. Impact has become some awful nightmare. Rob Terry beat Doug Williams. Really? "Big" Rob, a guy who can't perform a powerslam without it looking awkward just beat the X Division champion? In like a minute? Doug Williams, a guy capable of having entertaining matches, lost to a muscle-bound future member of the New Powers of Pain? Let's also try to forget Hogan talking to Bubba the Love Sponge. Why is Bubba employed? What does a 50+ year-old shock jock (dude, 2001 is over) bring to the show? Why would you let Awesome Kong leave and this guy stays? Awesome Kong was one of the biggest stars in the company and she's gone, but Bubba the Love Sponge is still there. I was going to watch Monday night, but they convinced me not to. Hulk Hogan was in every other segment. He talked and talked about this stupid match. I just don't care.
-- 3/4 WWE Superstars Reax
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (8.0): Best: Jericho vs. Goldust Worst: nothing stuck out. This show was solid on its own, but with WrestleMania looming and NXT starting, Superstars could have served a bigger purpose. Kofi isn't in the Money in the Bank match; why not have a qualifier instead of a match with Chavo? Same with Kane and Knox. Hey, why not get Knox into the mix? He's very agile for a big man. The Raw Rebound and C.M. Punk videos were fine. In the case of Regal, he lost to Bourne. Will this carry over to NXT and his mentoring? Are there any more matches set for WM in Phoenix? Last night's show would have been a good place to move something, with the crowd being pretty hot for things. Jericho was the right one to win his match with Goldust; I'm just happy that Goldy is still around. Still unaccounted for from ECW are Vance Archer, Vladimir Kozlov, and Tyler Reks. I would like to know where they'll be since I'll be in the crowd at the Smackdown show post-WM26.
