WWE PPV Price Increase Reax #2: "I spent more money on Vince every year than anything else and he does not even care about me or the people like me!" Nov 8, 2009 - 1:04:34 PM
Jeremy Hegg: As someone who has watched WWF/WWE pretty much non-stop since Summerslam 1990, I just roll my eyes at the latest price increase. Reminds me of an ad they did when baseball was on strike in 1994: "We still care about our fans." Apparently not anymore, unless you're referring to their pocketbooks that is. As it stands, I've only ordered the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania this year, as has been the case the past few years - and even those were disappointing this year in comparison to the past 3-4 years. I don't see the point when Triple H is in a World Title match every year, but two in the past ten years. The Royal Rumble match seemed rushed and cluttered with Triple H in the final three for the third time in four years, while WrestleMania with the exception of HBK-Undertaker just left a sour taste in my mouth. I've gone back and watched some WWE stuff on You Tube recently from 2003 and, while it was definitely bad, it looks good compared to some of the stuff they throw at us in 2009. I'm glad they got rid of another pay-per-view, but why keep the second one in October? One per month is more than enough; just get rid of more pay-per-views. The Bash doesn't seem to have a particular theme, Extreme Rules is just lame, Breaking Point was a failed experiment. If WWE wants to increase their buyrates, then need to reduce prices and pay-per-views significantly, not increase them. More people will be likely to buy 6-8 $30 pay-per-views than 13 $45 pay-per-views, thus the greater demand will give you more revenue in the long run than the higher price and higher volume will. Otherwise, more people will be like me and buy a DVD of a particular event when I have extra money lying around. Why should we pay more for one three-hour show than we pay for our entire cable/satellite bill?
Joe Martinez of Hayward, Calif.: The first PPV I ever watched was WrestleMania 7; I had to see Hogan beat Slaughter. Wrestling has become one of the biggest things in my life. I go to all the big events in my area, but more I travel to WrestleMania every other year, including this year's WrestleMania in Houston! Next year, being so close to home, I am planning on breaking from tradition and driving to Arizona for WrestleMania. Yet to be perfectly honest, it isn't actually for the big event. I had more fun going to Ring of Honor and everything else in Houston than the actual reason I went. So the raise in price will deter me from purchasing more events in the year. I had planned on going to SummerSlam this year, but the card was so weak that we decided to go Disneyland instead! I did not even watch the PPV or order and watch it when I got home like I normally would. This is because they do not put on a great show anymore. I used to love the WWE and watch everything, but now it is what ever. Being so loyal to Vince since WCW went out has gotten me nowhere, and everything I loved about WWE is gone. So why would I want to pay more to watch the garbage they put out. I will get the Rumble and maybe No Way Out or whatever it is called now. Yet, truthfully, I am switching my cable to get HD Net so I can watch ROH and I would rather waist my money on Dragon Gate where I know the matches will be solid! I spent more money on Vince every year than anything else and he does not even care about me or the people like me! I am sick of it and I promise I will show it. I may even buy a few TNA PPV just because they are cheaper, I just hope they can come through!
Andrew Martin: Did Shane McMahon set this up? What better way to show the company going downhill after you leave then having the company make a move so stupid. If you have WWE stock, sell now! You are also catering your product to families. These are the ones who are most likely not pay for an increase. I wonder who came up with this bonehead idea? How is WWE going to sell PPVs as something special? For UFC, it's special because the two fighters don't face each other anywhere else than on the PPV and fighters appear on PPV 2-3 times a year each, tops. With WWE, come see Cena vs. Orton for the 100th time, but this time an ironman match! WWE PPV buyrates, set to drop like an anchor, look out below!
