WWE Bragging Rights PPV Reax #2: "The image of Orton hunched over a control panel with an evil glare on his face and his finger on the big red button was priceless" Oct 26, 2009 - 1:05:42 AM
David Miller of Terre Haute, Ind. (7.5): Best Match: Orton vs. Cena. Worst Match: Divas match. A pretty successful outing from WWE on this one. Miz vs. Morrison could have gone a bit longer, but was still very good. I would look forward to seeing these two feud for a while. The women's match was decent, but Michelle McCool and Kelly Kelly are nothing more than cookie-cutter Barbie dolls with no distinctive personalities and their presence was entirely unnecessary. The four-way match had good intensity and the drama that unfolded between Batista and Mysterio at the end was a bit predictable, yet very entertaining. Team Smackdown's surprise win over Team Raw was a good boost for the blue brand, and I have to admit that I didn't see it coming. I think the match was what it needed to be and I think the right team won. Orton vs. Cena was a very pleasant surprise. The image of Orton hunched over a control panel with an evil glare on his face and his finger on the big red button was priceless! He looked like a mad scientist straight out of an old horror movie! Lots of great bumps, superb selling, and high drama at the end. It was the perfect match to end their drawn-out feud. This was one of the few concept PPVs by WWE that I have enjoyed.
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (Incomplete) Best Match: Seven on Seen. Worst Match: Raw vs Smackdown divas. If I were betting on the results, I would have lost big. At the end of the night, I was pleasantly surprised by the decisions. I'll be happier still if WWE takes the ball and runs with it for the possibilities they
gave themselves for Survivor Series and beyond. Miz vs. Morrison was the surprise decision, but I'm not unhappy with it. It's usually better the heel gets the win if more is coming. Team Miz vs. Team Morrison looks like a good idea so far. Let them defend their titles beforehand to get the 30-day stip out of the way (preferably both retaining), then let's see where else they can take their great first start. The botched finish took away a good lot from a pretty decent Divas match. It was a nice touch at that point to get Team Raw/DX to talk strategy about the brand tie. Wished there was equal time for Team Smackdown. I probably should have taken the unequal time as a cue Team Smackdown was winning. For Survivor Series, there may be a Team Raw vs. Team Smackdown re-match on the horizon. With Cody and Kofi apparently feuding, the Smackdown Five (minus the co-captains) may be dealing with those they booted for the team for November. The issue of "should have been us" could have gone either way with the Raw vs. Smackdown result. Taker retaining became furniture for...HOT DAMN! HALLELUJAH! BATISTA TURNED! And this one they hit on all the right points. I can't totally expect this turn to last all that long based on the story and Batista's usually unspectacular mic work. But this could be a good litmus test for a Cena turn down the road. That still needs to happen. So why did the crowd
cheer the turn? Because Batista finally turned, or were they tired of Rey, or both? While I liked the DX pep talk, I'm getting frustrated with Triple H. While co-captain Shawn Michaels tried to put over both their own team and their competitors, here is Triple H giving everyone an inferiority complex. Instead of confidence in his team, he exposes every fault and nook and cranny. Why? It could easily be stated: no wonder Team Raw lost! While everybody was involved in the 7X7 match, (in-ring specifically) between Shawn and Hunter it was a no contest. Shawn
worked with six of the seven (R-Truth unaccounted for) and gave as good as he got. Triple H, meanwhile, not so much in the giving department. Team Raw's loss, aside from Cody-Kofi, has the weakest opportunities for follow-up outside of a Raw vs. Smackdown re-match. One follow-up I'm not looking forward to is a Cena-Hunter title match that I'm all but certain is coming...again. Cena vs. Orton ended on a very good note. Despite
Legacy's help, an Orton-DiBiase feud is still looming so the pause
button has been pressed. The match wasn't perfect, though, with the period of 5-9 minutes left where both looked dumb for not taking nearfalls. Both the Sam's Town crowd and the commentators called this point out. There was some extra booking for breathing room, but not so much to cluster the match. The anything goes stip did still take from the match as it will be forever asterisked as not being a true Iron Man match. At the end of the day, I have two scores for this PPV, thus the Incomplete grade. If WWE does right by the possibilities going into Survivor Series, this PPV gets a 9; if not, a 5.
