WWE Smackdown Reax #1: "What happened to Smackdown?" Oct 18, 2009 - 9:30:31 AM
Justin Shook of Columbia, S.C., USC student (5.0): Best Match: The Dirt Sheet. Worst Match: Cryme Tyme vs. Hart Dynasty XVII. What happened to Smackdown? Every week we were being treated to quality 15 -20 minute main events with solid undercard matches as well. Now Vince is on the show and it's a joke. Coincidence? I think not. The triple threat was horrible, the Cryme Tyme-Hart Dynasty match was okay, but what does it matter? The story is and has been in its infancy stage for months and seems to be going nowhere. The Hart Dynasty is being strongly mis-used. The Dirt Sheet was gold as usual. Miz and Morrison are so funny and their match at Bragging Rights is my most anticipated. Taker is annoying on the mic. He has threatened to take a lot of souls, and yet it never seems to happen. The show has gone downhill since his return. We were so close to a Morrison-Punk World Title feud. They had history that him and Taker don't, and they also work much better in the ring together. The belt on Taker is stupid, as he really doesn't need it. Big Dave has needed a heel turn for a LOOONG time. I'm really hoping Rey costs him the belt by accident or whatever, which leads to Batista destroying him. That would be an instant heel transformation as Rey is way over with fans despite him just being suspended for a Wellness violation ... but I digress.
-- 9/15 WWE Superstars Reax
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (4.0): Best: Miz on commentary. Worst: predictability. This episode of Superstars was a complete throwaway. The Batista DVD plug was expected, as was the Swagger "Superstar Of The Week" promo video and the Ask The Divas segments. But, did you really think that Vladimir Kozlov and Mark Henry were going to lose? I sure didn't. Besides I was too preoccupied with Masters's man-boobs and Lawler's ineptitude on commentary. Maybe King was watching Edge's DVD this week and caught a subliminal thought. It's the only explanation I have for Lawler saying that Mark Henry was working on Masters's "trapezoid muscle" during that nerve hold. Punk vs. Morrison was good, as expected, even with the on-cue heel ruining the finish spot. But heel Miz cost Morrison the match by getting him disqualified, which isn't all that common. Miz continues to be on a roll with his promos. I liked how he was snide, snippy, and self-centered while still putting over Morrison and Punk. Triple H should be taking some notes about this storyline. But Miz's mic work just wasn't enough to save this less-than-stellar outing.
