ECW TV Reax #1: "This was a good episode of ECW, but some things were not well-resolved" Oct 14, 2009 - 9:48:01 AM
Justin James of Columbia, S.C., IT professional/author (8.0): Best Match: Christian/Tatsu-Regal/Ryder. Worst Match: Goldust-Jackson. This was a good episode of ECW, but some things were not really well resolved. For example, the tainted win by Tatsu over Regal last week should have involved GM Tiffany this week. Or the Benjamin-Sheamus feud... that really needs to continue on. Sheamus's promo was well done, but it did seem to indicate that he was done with Benjamin already. While Hurricane-Burchill has turned out some decent matches (including on this week's show), they both need to move on. Lauren Mayhew sounded more and more confident as the night went on, but her voice lacks punch. She sounds like she's been studying Tiffany, when she needs to be studying Lillian Garcia or Justin Roberts. The Goldust-Jackson match was one of Jackson's best, but it lacked the enthusiasm that the Goldust-Sheamus program had. The main event was an outstandingly solid event. In other words, while there may have been a couple of rough spots, I was emotionally involved in the match and they told a great story in the ring. I'd love to see how the Regal-Ryder situation goes forward from here. Face turn for Ryder? Tweener role? Get humbled to the point where he joins the Ruthless Roundtable? I liked the backstage bit between them. It was very effective at establishing Ryder's character. My wife cracked me up tonight when she saw the video package of the Iron Man match announcement: "Why does Randy Orton get to make a deal with Cena like that? Couldn't that McMahon guy just decide that Cena stays on Raw if Cena loses and override their dumb bet?" Yeah, good point. When C.M. Punk and Jeff Hardy had their "loser leaves town" match, Teddy Long okay'ed it. Since when would Randy Orton get to book such a match? One of the many issues with the current guest host situation, I suppose. We've been seeing a lot of wrestlers booking matches on Raw, lately.
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (8.0): Best: Christian/Yoshi vs. Regal/Ryder. Worst: Jacksan vs. Goldust. Unlike Raw last night, I only had to suffer through one bad segment, and that was early enough I could enjoy the rest of the show. I'm all for giving someone TV time to hone rough skills...if there are skills to be honed. Ezekiel Jackson just doesn't have them. At least Abraham Washington's excuse is being at the mercy of the writers. When Jackson did his pose, I was waiting for his traps to snap off and hit someone in the crowd. Goldy even sold knee strikes that a 747 plane could taxi through. Sheamus's promo delivery was a mixed bag. He was solid and confident, yet his brogue sounded too broad and, dare I say, fake compared to past promos. The Hurricane-Burchill match was okay for what it was, but the storyline behind it took a little too much time off for the crowd to really get behind the match. With his recent inclusion in matches, the Christian-Yoshi promo hinted the idea of making the ECW Title match a four-way. The tag match was good enough to warrant the idea, so WWE may want to balance out the one hour singles matches with multiple multi-person matches for star power purposes. I'm just hoping all this exposure doesn't lead to Yoshi being the jobber if that idea comes to pass.
