WWE Smackdown Reax #1: "WWE still hasn't explained why Taker targeted C.M. Punk in the first place" Sep 27, 2009 - 10:40:55 AM
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (8.5): Best: Morrison/Finlay vs. Knox/Ziggler. Worst: Punk's promo; Kane vs. SMJ(Jesse). I'm getting the impression from many people watching that Punk is becoming the heel Triple H of Smackdown. I'm seeing why, but it also means that he's becoming Chris Jericho, too. The promos are becoming increasingly repetitive and, for Punk, preachy. Chris Jericho would vary his parasitic synonyms but even his are becoming redundant. Undertaker kidnaps, assaults, and holds Teddy Long hostage, and yet no repercussions? And the former Jesse spray paints Vince's portrait on a dare and is fed to Kane as punishment. Guess Kane's got nothing else better to do right now, does he? I'm guessing Matt Hardy is laying low while all this stuff blows over? I feel bad that he's in such an awkward position as his heel turn was over being Jeff's caregiver through the ups and downs. Just as confusing as Kane's place is in terms of face vs. heel, so is Vince's. Vince seems more heel, but he plugs the Smackdown special episode as a face, and confronts Punk as a face of the screwjob conspiracy. I'm not getting a good read on Punk's reaction, which may be a good thing as it's being held in the gray area where Punk stood with that match. ... Batista busts out an anklelock; well, get a load of him. Why didn't he have this before? And at least this looked better than that chinlock he used way back with Orton or Cena (one of those two) that could fit three people in it. There was strangely cool followup with the JTG-Smith match. Cryme Tyme and Eve watched in the back earlier when SMJ was getting his butt handed to him by Kane. Later, Eve was stopped from going into the ring while chasing Natayla around. In between was the Show-Batista match which ended in a DQ because Jericho directly got in the ring to cause interference. The clues for Taker-Punk seem to be leading to WWE making the call that Taker will win the HIAC match after losing a tainted submission match and now being counted out against Punk. But WWE still hasn't explained much in terms of why Taker targeted Punk in the first place. Can't really enjoy a feud when you don't know why it started.
