WWE Raw Reax #3: "I like the ECW influx, but I fear for what may happen to Bourne and Swagger" Jun 30, 2009 - 2:14:31 PM
Rory Park of Butler, Pa. (0.0): Best Match: None. Worst Match: All of them. Raw last night was like watching a tape from five years ago. Is Triple H ever going to realize that he is stale? Miz hits two finishers and dominates the match, but yet Cena hits 3-5 moves and wins? These two have been doing the same routine for too long. Raw is awful. Where was Santino? Noticed that Miz and Santino aren't even on next week's Raw. I am surprised that Orton is still champion. Hunter or Cena will probably win at Night of Champions. Vince loves them, Orton will probably be pushed back to mid-card, and WrestleMania next year will be Cena vs. Taker and Hunter vs. HBK as the two main events. I can already see it coming because there aren't any creative people working for WWE and that will be the two "best" ideas that they have. I wish I could find something else to watch on Mondays. Can't wait for the NFL season to begin!
D. Floyd (4.0): Best Match: Edge & Jericho vs. Colons. Worst Match: Triple H vs. MVP. 1 point each for the tag title match, Batista as host, the divas, and the ECW influx. I enjoyed Batista as host. He looked good in the role (nice costuming, more on that in a moment). I think that if it's at all possible, after Batista retires from active competition, he should be placed in an authority figure type role. Not G.M.; that's played out. He'd be great because of his look/size. He couldn't be intimidated and has in-ring experience as a main eventer. I like the pairing of Edge and Jericho. I dig when two main-event level guys carry the tag titles (as long as the titles get defended often). I like the contrast of a team like Edge & Jericho (or an Austin/Triple H) against a true tag team. I'd like to see more guys team up and try to win the straps. Bring some weight back to the tag scene. I simply don't buy MVP anymore. Why don't we hear about his true life story? (In fact, I'd like to see a more realistic approach in WWE as a whole. For example, think the Nolan Batman films vs. the Schumacher Batman films. Which do you prefer? It is possible to have surreal characters rooted in a more naturalistic setting). I always love diva action, more so though in TNA. There was a time when Mickie James was a badassed character back in 2006. The response from the crowd at WrestleMania 22 for her match with Trish Stratus is among my favorite WrestleMania memories. Again, IT IS possible to make people care about these women. WWE has Katie Lea, Natty Neidhart, Mickie James, Beth Phoenix etc. I think they can make something happen. I like the ECW influx, but I fear for what may happen to Bourne and Swagger. Will they get a fair crack at things? These guys could both be big. I hope WWE doesn't screw it up. Kofi could be great too. Imagine a Mysterio, Bourne, Kingston, R-Truth, and Gail Kim alliance. Whatever happened to Orton? Back in September I was like "wow, finally an edgy/interesting character." Finally, I've had enough of this John Cena character. I had enough three, maybe four years ago. This isn't a knock on John Cena himself, but rather the character he plays. When we look back on this decade of wrestling, we'll be seeing a lot of shots of this guy standing tall over such competitors as Shawn Michaels (at WM), Chris Jericho (at Summerslam), Edge (at Royal Rumble), Undertaker, Benoit, RVD, Kurt Angle, so on and so forth wearing a pair of jean shorts and sneakers. I personally would like to see a Hollywood Hogan-esque turn created for him. This guy is big so do something big and DIFFERENT with him.
