WWE Raw/ECW TV Reax: "Let's just pray that we can make it through this Trump storyline in one piece" Jun 17, 2009 - 11:28:43 AM
Benjamin Tucker of Lexington, Ky. (7.5): Best Match: Jericho vs. Mysterio. Worst match: the Colons vs. Hart Dynasty. I personally hate the idea with Trump. Whatever storyline is being planned for that can't possibly end well. Even so, I thought that over half of the matches were good. The ECW match was almost a non-entity, which really devalues the brand more than it already has been, and the way that Punk won his match pissed me off. If he doesn't turn heel, a real opportunity would be missed. The Jericho match was great, as well as the triple threat, and the fatal four-way. In speaking of the WWE Title, I'm supposing that we'll have a match between Triple H and Orton at the Bash (didn't you love when Cody Rhodes called it the Great American Bash). The divas match was just thrown together, and this tag title match between the Colons and Legacy at the Bash seems to be a non-entity as far as storylines are concerned. Overall, it was a good show that could have been a lot more. (Wow, what a surprising battle royal finish - didn't see that coming, did you?) Let's just pray that we can make it through this Trump storyline in one piece.

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (8.0): Best: Swagger vs. Dreamer. Worst: Henry vs. Bourne. It was another solid and steady night in The Land of Extreme. DH Smith had a much better match with Christian, though that isn't saying much. That uranage on the apron was just brutal and barely made contact. It would be the first of several times the crowd seemed to boo certain moves that looked botched or disappointing. I hope Christian wasn't legit hurt by it. Interesting choice in a legend for Striker to bring up: Boogie Woogie Man Jimmy Valiant. My early wrestling memories saw Valiant as a vicious heel with his brothers Johnny and Jerry. Boogie Woogie was his "cool cat" face incarnation. He did have WWWF and WWF ties, but they're long enough ago some folks are going to have to do a little research for this gem of a reference. Henry-Bourne was simply a clean win for Henry after two dirty finishes against himself and a clean win against Tony Atlas. It's hard to tell if there is a working story between Henry and Atlas; it looks like it's been backed away from. But one interesting moment did come from the match that looked realistic: Bourne's struggle to pin Henry, which may be another piece to the storyline should this unexplained feud continue. Swagger gave a good promo that kept in line with his past statements of disgust over the elder Dreamer's presence in ECW. Swagger-Dreamer was match of the night, though there has been better. And then there is Finlay. That shiner he had a few weeks ago as pretty ugly, and was worth using for storyline purposes. But with no substantial reminders of his TV absence, his first strike against Christian is seen as a heel act. If that was the intended response, then mission accomplished, I guess. Hitting Dreamer garnered the same reaction. Hitting Swagger seemed to reverse the audience's opinion of Finlay. It will be curious to see how his payback actions are dealt with next week.
