ECW TV Reax #1: "Dreamer's ability to get the crowd behind him even though he loses 95 percent of the time is amazing" May 6, 2009 - 10:14:47 AM
Nick Wilhelm of New York, N.Y. (8.5): Best Match: Kidd vs. Bourne. Worst Match: Jobber squash. Let us pray that Vince McMahon keeps ignoring ECW, as it is more entertaining then Raw nowadays. Bourne vs. Kidd was a good start to the show and set the tempo for the rest of the night. Hopefully we'll see them again in more action-packed match. Also Finlay's interference made sense and did not hurt the match at all. What can I say about Tommy Dreamer? His ability to get the crowd behind him even though he loses 95 percent of the time is amazing. I hope he gets the ECW Title, as he probably has more passion for what he does then anyone else on the roster. In all, this week's only flaw was Kozlov, who yet again destroyed a jobber. This week was solid and unlike Raw, it was entertaining.
Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (8.0): Best: Christian/Dreamer vs. Swagger/Henry. Worst: dead crowd, and whatever Zach Ryder is smoking. A day after some of the most mind-boggling logic missteps on Raw, I was hoping for a respite on ECW. Thankfully, I did get that. Bourne-Kidd was a decent little match. Either because ECW was taping live after Smackdown, or because the match featured these two, the crowd sat on their hands through most of it. It's what happens when high-flying expectations are, well, high. Finlay disrupting the match didn't surprise or disappoint me as it moves along two feuds (Bourne-Kidd, Finlay-Kidd). I'm guessing Superstars will be adding another element to a probable tag match in the form of the (ahem) new and improved Zack Ryder. Nice going, WWE: raid the wardrobe for Heart Throb knockoffs to
tweak the former EdgeHead. Props to Ryder for going through with this. Christian-Henry was going along about as well as could be expected. Nice little change of pace when the disruptors become partners in the same night as opposed to being booked for next week. Once a tag match,
it was much better. Striker was full of gems all night: explanation of Sambo, stats on steel-producing nations, and selling of various moves and holds. Please tell me he didn't just telegraph the ECW championship match two weeks early. I'm hoping he's only making subtle transitions to be a heelish color man, but this "rooting for Jack Swagger" sticks out too much. I'm hoping WWE caught its own glitch and will try to plant the seed of doubt before then.
