Till Tesche from Osnabrueck, Germany (8.0): Best: Cena-Edge, Worst: Khali Kiss Cam
Wow, pretty good show following WrestleMania! Punk-Kane was actually the worst match (if you don't count the Santino-Beth mess)-and this was two-and-a-half stars! Quite some time since WWE or TNA had a PPV where the worst match of the night was above the two-star mark. Swagger-Christian was good but nothing memorable. I actually expected a bit more, but given the positioning on the card I guess they weren't allowed to show more. Steamboat-Jericho was fun to watch for me as it brought back memories. Good to see that Steamboat still can pull off a good in-ring performance. I loved that they allowed him to show some serious offense. They choose the right finish, though, with the full-time wrestler winning. I didn't care about Punk-Kane, but it was just sad how Punk's momentum coming out of WrestleMania was killed. I don't get why they didn't take the opportunity to give Punk more credibility as challenger for the title, cashing in his MITB. Jeff-Matt was quite entertaining. Jeff got his revenge and regained credibility without damaging Matt's status as a top heel. Good decision in my opinion as I'd like to see both of them in future main events. Legacy-Team McMahon was actually better than I expected. I loved that Orton got the clean pin on Triple H. I guess Triple H will return as a heel, blaming Batista for the loss. Edge-Cena was just a great WWE main event! They made good use of the LMS-stips and Edges facial expressions have been great. Cool, innovative spot with Edge getting the Attitude Adjustment to the front row. The finish was fine as the pyro-stuff was not overdone. I'm not too exited about an upcoming Cena-Big Show feud though. I wonder how they will explain Big Show helping Edge to win the title.
David Miller of Terre Haute, Ind. (7.0): Best Match: Edge vs. John Cena. Worst Match: Kane vs. C.M. Punk. Backlash came reasonably close to delivering what it promised. I have to admit that I've never really seen what the big deal was about Jack Swagger, but I'm starting to warm up to him a bit. He still seems like a bit of a cookie-cutter lower tier heel to me, but he did deliver a very good match with Christian tonight. It was also satisfying seeing Christian finally cross paths with Edge again. Kudos to WWE for not ignoring their past. Jericho vs. Steamboat was good, but the novelty of seeing the Dragon in the ring is starting to wear off already. This should be the end of it. C.M. Punk vs. Kane was a throwaway to me. I really couldn't have cared less. I would have much rather seen a ladies match. Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy was one of those matches that came close, but didn't quite deliver on the hype. Jim Ross acting like a swanton was the worst thing Jeff could possibly do to Matt was a little insulting to our intelligence. Matt also appeared to have taken a Jackie Gayda-ish phantom bump at one point. I did enjoy the finish. Santino and Khali's segment was a scream. Santina's exclamation of "I'm pretty!" had me rolling on the floor. The six man match was okay, but predictable. The best part of it was the way Orton's kick was treated as a lethal maneuver. Edge vs. Cena was very good, with both men giving their all. I'm not a Cena fan, but he sells a butt-kicking better than almost anyone. It was fun hearing the high pitched shrieks of "Let's go Cena" countered by the deeper voiced "Let's go Edge." Good ending with Big Show throwing Cena through a giant spotlight, but a few sparks and some smoke would have been more realistic than the gigantic explosion of fireworks that ensued. They didn't use that much pyro to open the show. Very acceptable PPV and follow-up to WrestleMania.
