TNA Impact Reax #1: "The biggest problem was the disturbing pattern that won't go away: what show was I watching, TNA or WCW?"

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (8.0): Best: Rhino promo; A.J./Devon promo. Worst: TNA continues to lose its identity. The score I give tonight is a bit of a misnomer. The show is basically a case of "if a tree falls in the woods..." Everything seemed to have a purpose, either toward tonight's show or the Genesis PPV, but it had the noise of a go-home show. Shane Sewell is "appropriate" to referee X Division matches, despite going off on the wrestlers he officiates? I'm guessing the Beautiful People were further embarrassed by "Palin" because there weren't two other face Knockouts to complete the Christmas-themed street fight? And why wasn't the other qualifying match on the show when the vacated title should be decided at Genesis? The biggest overall problem was the disturbing pattern that won't go away: what show was I watching, TNA or WCW? The Front Line continues to get dominated with no signs of a turnaround. Rhino and Morgan delivered subdued (and for Morgan also more metered) promos that came across more seriously than if they were to yell them. The Rough Cut almost gave us the sour behind Beer Money, but this one was meant to prop them up as a team (shoring up their catchphrase about mind, money, and beer). Of the four matches, only the women's match ended without post-match activity. The post-match had a built-in purpose, but there could have been some changes to separate activity from matches to create more follow up and intensity. Much of the delivery was good, but "lather, rinse, repeat" can done only so many times.

Ian Denbow of Mitchellville, Md. (1.0): Best Segment: Kurt Angle smacking Don West with the microphone. Worst Segment: Everything else. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from TNA! We're so happy that you stuck with us through hours and hours of complete crap this year, that as a special thank you from us, here, have a completely boring and sleep-inducing episode of Impact! TNA completely dropped the ball last night, which is the norm for them, so I shouldn't be too surprised. Let's look at what we have here - Mick Foley is returning to the ring. Okay, that's cool. He's teaming with A.J. Styles. That's cool too I suppose. He's also teaming with Brother Devon. Ugh. But before you shun the idea completely, they're fighting Kevin Nash, Booker T, and Scott Steiner. Yay! Nash is a good talker, and Booker can be entertaining too, but the fact of the matter is that none of these three belong in a wrestling ring at this point in their career. They are slow, plodding, and expose the business even more than an episode of CCW. I suppose the same could be said about Foley, but at least he makes up for it in other ways when performing. And what about Sting? He said not word one tonight. He barely even was shown on TV. And he's the TNA Champion! What about Booker's "Legends" Championship? He barely defends it, and really - do we still know if it's even a recognized championship? I was happy that Joe was put out last week, as I thought that would leave the door open for Christopher Daniels to return this week. But alas, that did not happen. Of course. Why do I bother putting faith in TNA creative to do something that may just be a good Christmas reward for us putting up with logic holes all year that make WWE look like a John Grisham novel.
