WWE Raw Reax #4: "Regal's commentary really wanted me to see him and Punk feud."

Eric Gall of Bridgeport, Conn. (5.5): High Point: Main Event, Jericho promo (again). Low Point: Kennedy segment. I guess it really is Stephanie's show. Shane has to tell the production crew to cue up his music when, in the very next segment, JBL's limo interrupts a match, and presto!, his music plays automatically. Maybe if the ratings continue to struggle, the company will bring back more of the edge it lost since it lapsed into its safe, paint-by-numbers Raw format. Nice seed sowing with the JBL-Michaels-Morrison interaction; it's a welcome change from the standard face-heel dynamic. Was I the only one who think Kennedy bombed in his segment? It was, at best, rambling, and at worst, incoherent. Regal's commentary really wanted me to see him and Punk feud. I normally loathe all things DX, but Shawn kicking out Kelly was pretty funny. How appropriate is it that Cena makes his return to Raw surrounded by little kids? I wonder if he really needs to be portrayed as so dominant so soon. While Cena is a strong "everyman" and his interaction with Jericho is a study in contrasts, his promo really seemed to be geared to a 4th grade reading level, while Jericho's promos are routinely the most intelligent in the business. The company may want to be careful that its no. 1 guy doesn't get too dumbed down.

Randolph Russo of Toronto; student (6.5): Best: Michaels-Morrison. Worst: Snitsky in IC title tournament. Raw wasn't horrible, but it was nothing that kept me from channel-surfing most of the night. Shane and Stephanie starting things off was moderately interesting, but again, nothing overly special. If WWE is smart they should invest in a long-term singles program between HBK and Morrison. Morrison should be groomed as a future big-match main eventer, as he definitely has 'it.' From the attire, to the way he moves, he reminds me of a young, contemporary, brash, Michaels right before he hit his stride. I don't buy into the Kennedy hype. He hasn't impressed me. Ever. I like Kane, but his character has become so convoluted. Good seeing Patterson, but as far as the IC tourney goes, the contenders are a little lame. Snitsky? How did he get in there? I think they should demote Batista to the IC division, both to regain some of its prestige by having a former World champion be on the hunt for the title. Also, he shouldn't be let near a major title picture in the near future, as he really seems to have lost the fire. Melina looked good. Jericho is the backbone of WWE. From his facial expressions to his reasoning out feuds to mean something by adding a moral theme; he's on fire. Jericho makes his matches mean something as they maintain the old-school story-telling element of wrestling. Cena on the other hand makes me sick by treating his character as someone who cares what the people think. How does situating him in a crowd of ten-year olds sell him as a credible champion to McMahon's vital 18-35 male demographic? The answer: it doesn't. It's like trying to convince me that High School Musical is cool.
