WWE Survivor Series Reax #4: "It may not be popular to say so but I've missed Cena."

Alex Roberts in the UK (4.5): Best Match: Cena vs. Jericho. Worst Match: Triple H vs. Kozlov. The WWE Title match was the stuff of nightmares. I can't remember the last time the WWE produced a title match that bad. Kozlov's performance is a sign that his push should be dramatically re-thought immediately, and his performance was one that even the Great Khali would be ashamed of. Meanwhile Hardy's removal from the match was handled so poorly and his complete lack of injury during his run-in means fans who paid to see him in action will feel nothing but ripped off. Edge's return makes no sense at all, since last I remember Edge and Vickie were at war with one another plus I now have another reason not to watch Smackdown - I can't stand Edge. The casket match was a disaster on just about every level and the finish was ridiculous, which is a shame because I had high hopes for this as I've enjoyed the previous Show-Taker matches. Team Batista vs. Team Orton was another inoffensive and largely forgettable match although it picked up nicely heading toward the finish and I did enjoy the continuation of the Orton/Rhodes partnership, which continues to be an intriguing angle. After a disastrous pay-per-view, lets thank God for Chris Jericho and John Cena, who produced an excellent main event. It may not be popular to say so but I've missed Cena, a lot and last night he returned with another of his dependably great pay-per-view performances alongside Jericho, who has been on fire for the past six months. Easily the best match of the night and I thought they played out the story of Cena's ring rust and concern about his return very well.

Clay Tonic of Richmond, Va. (8.0): Best match: Team Batista vs. Team Orton. Worst match: Triple H vs. Kozlov. The women's Survivor Series tag match was way better than I expected, Cena-Jericho was no classic but a solid bout, and both men's tag elimination matches were pretty cool. I'm glad WWE is coming back around to classic elimination style matches. I remember that a couple of years ago they were only putting one four-on-four or five-on-five bout on the card each year, which I thought was a letdown. The Triple H-Kozlov match was pretty lame. Even if Edge is a great champion and using his wife to steal the title is his "thing," the ending of the match didn't really make me excited (which is saying a lot, because the match itself almost put me to sleep). Also, I see where you guys are coming from with WWE exploiting potential tragedy with the Jeff Hardy angle, and the whole thing was set up badly. But, let's face it, pro wrestling IS exploitative, even down to its very roots and its very structure. Consider the Cena-Jericho match. The story of the match was Jericho exploiting Cena's injured neck, which Cena might have returned from a little too early. I found myself (almost) concerned about Cena's well-being a couple of times during the match just as I was (almost) concerned about Hardy's well-being earlier in the day. Tacky, tasteless, almost vulgar? Yes, yes and yes. But setting up for some dramatic storytelling? Well, yes, too. (By the way, I loved the fact that Caldwell's PPV report included pictures, keep up the good work!)
