WWE Raw Reax #1: "WWE is not so predictable anymore, as all of us assumed Batista would win."

Dan Strauss of Goodhue, Minn. (8.5): Best: The overall improvement of the show, even if it was for one night. Worst: Women's match. I had been dreading the return of DX for weeks, but they actually made me laugh tonight. Cole and Lawler kept bringing down Miz and Morrison by saying that it would be a "major upset" if they won. Instead, they should have considered it possible since those two are actually a current tag team and good at what they do together. The cage match was all right with a nice ending. The spot where Batista grabbed Jericho by the throat through the cage was pretty cool. Now we're back in "who will Raw's general manager be?" mode. If they want to turn ratings around, they really need to get this one right. It may be nothing short of putting Shane, Stephanie, or both in that role. I hate to admit that a few people can influence an industry that much, but having McMahons on TV and in storylines regularly has been the key to success in the past. Add a new GM to the picture and having both Orton and soon Cena back, and Raw could rebound quickly. Tonght's show was full of good programming. It actually annoyed me because I had quit a bit to do tonight and I couldn't get away from the TV because most segments were worth watching. Obviously a lot of this had to do with the big, special episode, but if the creative team could take this attitude and motivation into booking every Monday night, we might have some good TV again.

Adam Riemer of New York, N.Y. (8.0): Best: The Cage Match. Worst: DX. I gave Raw such a high rating for their 3 hr 800th episode spectacular because of only 1 match; the cage match. At the start of the show I told my friend Chris that this match would suck, #1.) because Jericho and Batista are not very good together and that #2.) The cage match means absolutely nothing anymore. I was dead wrong. Jericho and Batista did an excellent job tonight in the cage. They told a story, they had a lot of close calls, and they produced a very enjoyable match. I am happier that Jericho is once again the champion. Sure he will probably lose it to Cena, if not at Survivor Series then soon after, but at least the WWE had a World Title change on Raw, something they haven't done in many years. It made it seem like the WWE is not so predictable anymore, as all of us assumed that Batista would win and then go to feud with Cena again. For those that remember, it was Cena that beat Jericho ultimately leading to Eric Bischoff firing Chris Jericho. The worst part of the night was DX being DX. The announcers kissed their asses, laughed at all their jokes, and kept saying "what a night, DX has returned." OK, we get it. You have to kiss the ass of Triple H to keep your job. In fact I am pretty sure that DX has reunited 200 times in the last 10 seconds. It is not new anymore. It was new a few years ago, now it is just annoying. The Miz and Morrison at least got some offense in so that was good, but Triple H really just barely sold much other than the superkick. Did anyone else notice the stare down between HBK and the Undertaker after the JBL match? Could this be foreshadowing? Undertaker vs. HBK at WrestleMania 25 would be something that a long-time fan like me would love to see.
