WWE Smackdown Reax #1: "Why did we not see any interaction between Miz, Morrison, and Triple H on this show to build up the three-hour Raw?"

Alex Roberts in the U.K. (4.0): Best Match: Six-Man Tag. Worst Match: Casket Match. I enjoyed some individual moments of Smackdown this week, but as has become the case with Smackdown the show as a whole doesn't equal the total of its individual parts. Basically, it should be a lot more entertaining than this but absolutely nothing on the show feels connected or worthwhile so it's all just there. Try as I might, I cannot get excited about Koslov. I can't see anything about him (beyond his size) that warrants the push he's being given and I've yet to enjoy anything he's done. The thought that the WWE might put the title on him over someone they've invested real time and effort into establishing like Jeff Hardy or MVP does not fill me with joy. Speaking of MVP, he's lost all sense of momentum with this incentives bonus angle, which in the grand scheme of things makes no sense at all. Anyone else remember when he was the hottest act on Smackdown and destined for a main event run? Once again WWE drops the ball on a fresh exciting character. On the plus side, MVP was at least involved in the match of the night, the six-man tag was fun even if it didn't render the increasingly pointless brand split even more pointless. Meanwhile The Brian Kendrick is still doing the exact same thing he was doing months ago - no development at all - although I do like Funaki's new gimmick. The Primo Brothers are also starting to impress. From the little I've seen of them they're improving each week as a tag team and in an ideal world the WWE would be building them up to challenge for the WWE Tag Titles rather than trying to establish them as Champions. A word of caution for the WWE, though; if you let Shawn Michaels & Triple H squash Miz & Morrison Monday Night, you've effectively squashed the entire Smackdown tag division and half of the Raw division in one move. Don't do it. Also, why did we not see any interaction between Miz, Morrison, and Triple H on this show to build up the three-hour Raw? That might have made some degree of sense. And despite the fact that nobody seems to be that interested The Undertaker-Big Show feud continues to rumble on with the feel of a never-ending saga. The main event Casket Match was pretty bad and I'd think a major disappointment for anyone tuning into see the WWE continue their run of big Friday night main events. Smackdown tries, but it's not quite there. A few entertaining moments does not a good show make.

Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (7.0): Best: Kane/Henry/MVP vs. Hardys/Rey Worst: divas match: Khali Kiss Cam Nothing to write home about, but not a bad show. No amnesia about the "illegal banned sumission"; nice of Big Show to remember. Miz/Morrison vs. Colons, in the ring at at commentary, did what it needed to (make Miz and Morrison seem formidable opponents for DX). Of particular note was Jim Ross saying "DX will raise their game" as a way to acknowledge the challenge. Going forward, the match also set up Carlito & Primo's next title opponents. Chavo gets upset when Bam has foiled his plans to win a match yet Kendrick seems nonplussed that Ezekiel caused a DQ. I actually like that; two different characterizations. Of course, there is the beatdown afterward, so he's still a heel. The Khali Kiss Cam has now become "The Official Bathroom Break Of Smackdown." The six-diva match suffered in that the crowd figured out the the switch that WWE refuses to acknowledge, and the cut-off post match jealousy by Michelle McCool. A turn looks to be in the works, but it's being messed up at every opportunity. The six-man tag match was the only segment where the crowd was absolutely into the whole thing. But I have to wonder something. Being still west coast for this episode, Smackdown would have been taped after ECW, so there was no reason why Evan Bourne's injury wasn't mentioned. Was he supposed to be in the six-man match and Hardy was substituted? There was also no mention of Chavo pinning Hardy on ECW that I can recall. (Maybe Chavo winning was an audible after the fact.) Anyone not watching ECW and only watching Smackdown will see Chavo getting punked out yet again by Vickie for a reason only she and Creative know but won't tell us. Chavo's in this strange limbo, and I feel bad for him as there is something WWE is clearly missing about him. Nice swerve though, as I though Undertaker's sabbatical was going to start tonight. Kozlov may get the credit for it next week. Taker needs one judging by the look on his face post-match. Nice touch at the show finish, with Vickie giving the okay for Kozlov to take on Undertaker (per proper recommendation from Triple H, as she is the GM), setting up for next week, and probably Survivor Series.
