WWE Raw Reax #1: "I wonder how Dustin (Rhodes) feels being lumped in with the old-timers."

Dan Strauss of Goodhue, Minn. (7.5): Best: Bourne-Mysterio. Worst: Santino-Glamahaas. Opening segment was pretty good. Jericho and Orton were very solid heels on the mic. I like seeing Punk/Kingston as champs as long as WWE doesn't bury Team Priceless. I like seeing title changes on Raw. I think that could be part of the ratings decline - viewers know that Raw episodes are just four-week previews to a PPV. I'm looking forward to a JBL-HBK fued, not because of the in-ring potential, but because both work the mic so well and they will set the stage like true pros at a high level. Great match between Rey and Bourne. Those two worked real hard and showcased their talent. We saw another match-up scheduled for next week. For Raw's 800th episode, DX will "re-unite" for the 800th time. The main event wasn't anything special, but overall I thought this was a pretty good episode of Raw. More time was given to actual matches, and they were smart to make them very quality matches. My personal opinion is that Smackdown will never become what it could because a McMahon heir-in-law holds the belt, won't let it go, and won't elevate any talent at his own expense. Triple H is building a great legacy for himself but does nothing for other superstars, and he gets away with it because of his situation. With a new champ and Orton and Cena returning, let's hope Raw goes in a new direction and provides some good future programming.

Matt Johnson of Norway, Mich. (8.0): Best Match: C.M. Punk & Kofi Kingston vs. Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase. Worst Match: Santino Marella vs. Charlie Haas. This Raw stuck out because it had longer than average matches. The tag title match was excellent and really told a story. This is a rare case where a screw job ending building toward a longer PPV match would have been better. Still, I will take it. Mysterio and Bourne was a fast-paced and demonstrated athleticism. Too bad they couldn't just go to commercial after the match, instead of having Kane continue his feud with Rey. It was fun seeing Honky, Goldust, and Piper again, but I think they should have spent more time featuring Honky since he has not been on WWE TV for quite some time. Orton is solid and planted a seed for next week. Not a very exciting main event, but it is forgivable since there were two other terrific matches on the show.

Adam Grammas of Westchester, Ill. (3.0): 3.0 Best: tag match. Worst: John Cena, John Cena, John Cena. They need to move along the "next generation" group. Orton seemed to be working with them for a bit, then WWE distanced them. (Then again, they had Shawn and Hunter talking to the Outlaws before they were officially brought aboard DX.) There needs to be fresh storylines, and a big heel group with mostly new guys could do it. And it doesn't have to be another Horsemen creation like Evolution was. Orton doesn't need to be Flair, Cody and DiBiase don't have to be Tully and Arn, and Manu doesn't need to be Windham. It doesn't have to be NWO '98-99 with 30 members either, but it would be nice to see the faction extend beyond four members. ... So I guess Honky and Piper made up? I guess Honky and Vince have made up as well. I wonder how Dustin feels being lumped in with the old-timers. Cole and Lawler need to stop the over the top, wiping the tears from their eyes laughing they do at things like Charlie Haas. The segments are something to look forward to (I'm still waiting for Bret "Hitman" Haas), but Cole and Lawler are so hokey. Although we didn't get to see it as much tonight, Jillian Hall is the most entertaining woman on the WWE roster. She's not the best wrestler; that's still Mickie James. But it's about entertainment. Right, Vince? Jillian is someone who will never need to actually hold the title because she does just well on her own. I tried to enjoy a snack while watching tonight, but I had too much John Cena in my throat. R.I.P. S.D. Jones. He, not Brooklyn Brawler or Barry Horwitz, was king of the "jobbers."

PWTORCH FORMAT CONVENTIONS

For the sake of clarity to our readers (and to save us time editing these same things over and over), please follow these simple conventions when writing Torch Reax:

-Wrestlers teaming together should be connected with "&" symbol (e.g. Hunter & Michaels, Devon & Ray) or with a "/" (e.g. Animal/Hawk, Harris/Storm), but not dashes and not the word "and."

-To designate wrestlers who are fighting, feuding, or wrestling each other, put a dash (-) between them (e.g. Michaels-McMahon, Jarrett-Sting, Hogan-Andre) or use "vs."

-The word versus should always be abbreviated this way: "vs." with a period afterward (not "v." or "v/s" or "VS" or "VS." or any other way).

-Plus, it's just our policy, but we don't indulge wresting promotions' strange spelling fetishes where they spell Raw, Smackdown, Heat, Impact, etc. with the haphazard capitalization of various leTTeRz. It seems very "junior high," so no RAW (it's Raw), no iMPACT (it's Impact), etc.

-Please try to avoid overuse of dot-dot-dots. If you have a thought that's "trailing off," you can use for effect, but otherwise, just use periods, commas, and our personal favorite, semicolons if you dare. We have always had a policy of only one exclamation point and no ALL CAPS. Let your words convey the meaning of your point. There's many to choose from out there.
