Terrie Neilson of Las Vegas, Nev. (9.5): Best: Michaels-Jericho; Triple H-Hardy. Worst: Beth vs. Candice (but it wasn't terrible). I'm surprised how WWE can turn fairly weak build into a very decent PPV. Adding gloss to the packages helped some; major effort by the wrestlers covered the rest. Hardy-Henry turned out to be a good opener, but what happened to Matt Striker? Nothing against the commentary of Todd Grisham and Jerry Lawler, but it felt odd without Striker. Candice did show improvement and effort in the match with Beth, but the right decision was made to not give her the title. But seriously, Candice needs to make better decisions on her ring wardrobe before a legit wardrobe malfunction occurs. A DQ finish seemed right for Kane-Rey, but it still looked very scary as there seemed to be huge concern for Rey afterwards. The talking segment told a LOT: Priceless isn't getting over as well as it should; MVP really does deserve better than getting punked out; and MVP-Orton could be a good match down the road, say, Survivor Series. Good question will be heel-face dynamic in that match as both played the duel edge well in the segment. Batista-JBL concerned me as it came across as a squash for Batista, with an almost "It's A Wonderful Life" set-up for JBL. Gotta hand it to Taker for soldiering on considering the condition he was in. Triple H was incredibly heelish in his match with Jeff Hardy despite the sportsmanship start and finish. Could a full turn be coming? The fans at both Sam's Town and in the crowd were jonesing huge for Shawn to get the gold, but longtime HBK fan I've been, it would have been wrong here for the build going in. And it's surreal to see a heel win top two PPV cards in a row, but this time Chris Jericho EARNED this one and I won't argue it. For all purposes, Shawn came extremely close to making good on his word to disfigure Chris: bashed face, bloody fat lip, and at least one lost tooth. Definitely adds something substantial to the Batista-Jericho build, intentional or not.
Peter Young of Orange, NSW, Australia - Occupationl: Physiotherapist (7.5): Best Match: Jericho vs. Michaels. Worst Match: Batista vs. JBL. It will be very interesting to see the buyrates for No Mercy as it is a public holiday in most states of Australia. Matt Striker certainly was noticeably absent for the ECW match. Considering that they wheeled out most of the Divas, MVP, Manu, Rhodes, DiBiase, Kingston, and Punk for a few minutes, surely the budget was there for Striker's travel? The Kane-Mysterio and Taker-Show endings were all disappointing but I guess necessary for the continuation of their storylines. The Cryme Tyme segment was pretty poor. I don't think the crowd responds as well to an event onscreen compared to it being in the arena itself. And Mickie James is definitely not "street." JBL had almost regained his heat with a clever speech (for a second, I thought he was going to announce his retirement) prior to the limo hijacking. And is borrowing a millionaire's limo truly that offensive? Jeff Hardy and Triple H put on an excellent match, only surpassed by the main event. The result was kinda flagged by it not being last on the card though. Jericho and Michaels have made another fine addition to the history of the ladder match. Jericho should not get his broken tooth fixed immediately. It will give him an edge compared to that toothy DDP smile thing he had going when he returned. I hope they don't play the ending off as another fluke win. Jericho needed a credible win and I think this was it.
