Shane McKinley of Danville, Calif. (8.5): Best Match: Main Event. Worst Match: Opening. I'm sickened by WWE. Mike Adalme was a crappy wrestling announcer when he joined ECW and was still a crappy wrestling announcer when he left. Improvement? Tazz would mostly call the match while Adalme would handle the introductions and give a odd observation every now and then. A good lesson for the kids: Don't worry if you're horrible at your current job, because you will be handed a better job in the future. WWE started the propaganda by making Adalme the "coolest" GM with "unique Adalme matches" and him cozying up to Kelly Kelly. Why exactly did Mike Adalme announce for ECW again? That being said, Raw was fun to watch tonight. Every match was great and fresh. Fans were used to Raw throwing out the same old matches week in and week out.
Dan Strauss of Goodhue, Minn. (8.0): Best: Handicap Match. Worst: The champ's place on the card. I liked the opening segment with Adamle. Of course we've got to give it all time, but just can't believe all the idiots that wrote this guy off without giving it a chance. Although he got really good heel heat, it was very interesting to see them not jump immediately into a set-in-stone babyface or heel role, so viewers will have to watch his personality and role develop over the course of the next weeks and months. William Regal has such great heat and is great on the mic, I'd like to see him and JBL align because they are so well hated. Of course, the World Champ's slot continues to be the end of the first hour. That said, their match was awesome and stole the show. Even in his new, more revealing tights, Chris Jericho finds himself in the best segment of the night. This match was well done and had some great spots and timing. WWE could really do more matches involving a clock, because with proper rehearsal and booking, the fans really get into it. I guess Kane's storyline was completely dropped. The main event was also pretty good and advanced the Batista/Cena storyline, although we just saw that last year with Cena and HBK becoming tag champs when they were feuding. Still, I give WWE credit for the surprise; I assumed they'd bicker too much and cost themselves the match, so the end really surprised me. Overall, a good show and a good step in the Adamle Era. And even though the show was quality good, I don't know what my score would be without a hot crowd to keep it intense.
Michael Moore of Casper, Wy. (6.0): Best match: Cena/Batista vs. Rhodes/Dibiase. Worst match: Mickie vs. Katie. Enough of the heel GM gimmick. They can use cute little phrases like "Adamle original" all they want, but the truth is that he's playing the exact same role as Vince McMahon, Eric Bischoff, Vince Russo, Cyrus, Paul Heyman, Kurt Angle, Armando Estrada, Vickie Guerrero, and any other heel authority figure I forgot to mention. And let me get this straight: So Adamle gives Punk-JBL-Jericho a 10-minute time limit, and Michael Cole tells us that nobody likes the odds of a triple threat match at Summerslam. Yet when Jericho applies the Walls of Jericho and Punk can just tap out and go to the one on one match, he instead fights the hold, implying that he'd rather fight in that triple threat match nobody wants, according to Cole. So who wins? The same guy Punk beat his first night as champion in about five minutes, but now WWE expects us to pay $40 to see it. Jeez, and people say TNA's booking is bad. Cole describing Cena's style as "pound and ground" is ridiculous on so many levels. One he can't even get the phrase right, and two, it's laughable to suggest that Cena wrestles an MMA style. Good main event thanks to Cena and Batista's star power, but Rhodes and Dibiase still are nothing more than kick/punch/resthold developmental wrestlers. Overal, mediocre show made to seem better than it was thanks to a very hot crowd.
