WWE Raw Reax #1: "Hardy should've been allowed to address why he was suspended and admit his actions were a mistake." May 13, 2008 - 7:33:32 PM
Shane McKinley of Danville, Calif. (7.5): Best Match: Main Event. Worst Match: Jerhico and HBK. I like the fact that Roddy Piper has been used recently. I also like to watch Kennedy wrestle. Worst bit of the night was the Jericho-HBK bit. Yay? Boo? This awful buildup does not get me interested in seeing their match. I actually didn't mind the Cryme Tyme vs. Cade & Murdoch saga. One of my favorite moves is when Orton irish whips Cena to the ropes and Cena goes for a shouldar tackle, but Orton smoothly ducks it. Maybe perhaps Orton wasn't supposed to go outside the cage? Whatever happened, that main event worked. Much better Raw this time around. There are some long-running feuds that I don't mind seeing again and again (Morrison vs. Punk, Undertaker vs. Edge, Orton vs. Cena, Umaga vs. Jeff Hardy). Better use of William "Knicks Ex-Head Coach Isiah Thomas" Regal. I'm somewhat suprised that they didn't do the draft.
Jon Gargis of Cartersville, Ga. (7.0): Is it just me, or are WWE and TNA celebrating "Tag Team Awareness Month"? Good to see Raw's tag champs defend the titles after it seems like ages since their last title defense, but the title match seems like a throwaway when it is the first match on the card and wasn't advertised. Making every pay-per-view multibrand has diluted the importance of these belts. I don't think Kennedy needs to be turned into a straight-up face despite the pops he's been getting in recent months; keeping him a tweener could still allow him to bend the rules, but wouldn't scare away the positive reactions. Though he faced Snitsky, who is usually the GM's enforcer, there should have been some continuation of his feud with William Regal. When Jeff Hardy's mention of "Intercontinental Title" got cut off, I thought he had stopped himself and would mention his intention to obtain the WWE Title, but that obviously was not the case. Cutting off Hardy's mic was WWE's way of not explaining on the air why Hardy was suspended. But if WWE is serious about promoting an anti-drug atmosphere, complete with commercials showcasing the "not-drug-enhanced" John Cena, then Hardy should've been allowed to address why he was suspended and admit his actions were a mistake. If plans are in the works for Umaga to head to Smackdown, then Hardy nor anyone else in the roster should be defeating him in a two-minute match. Triple H was okay in this week's small dose. Finally, like Mr. Caldwell, I'm not a fan of the random entrance music changes. I wonder if the changes are due to expiring rights to use the music or just wrestler/management preference. Either way, I think entrance music changes should only be made following a PPV (perhaps even after one where that person wins or drops a belt), after a face/heel change or after airing promo videos for that wrestler featuring the new music.
A.A. Norman of Tulsa, Okla. (6.5) Best match: Umaga vs. Hardy; Worst: Anything Orton, from the entrance to the match itself. Orton's new ring music is as boring as the Age of Orton, the opening segment was far too long, and is that HBK-Jericho pay-per-view matchup REALLY a non-title match? Save us, Y2J! The only thing really holding my interest Monday night was the tag team division (by the way, why isn't WWE Shop Zone selling that new Santino shirt?) and Jeff Hardy's return. If Y2J or HBK wanted to look ingenious, he would have pointed out that the video from Backlash clearly shows HBK nursing his right knee, when the rest of the videos and appearances showed him nursing the left knee... but that's far too obvious. You could've fooled me into thinking this wasn't a show before a PPV, but you won't fool me into buying it.
