Dan Patrick of Vernon Hills, Ill. - Newspaper Reporter (2.5): Best: Mickie vs. Beth Phoenix. Worst: Triple H/Mr. Kennedy vs. ECW. I'll admit that I'm usually pretty quick to cut the WWE some slack most of the time, but as soon as I saw the teaser for the main event, I knew what was coming. I kept hoping that Triple H wouldn't bury an entire roster, but guess what... I can't believe that they would put over two Raw wrestlers (Triple H and Mr. Kennedy) to absolutely destroy an entire show. This was foolish booking because either you had your champion beat down or you sacrifice an entire brand. If there's an "H" in the equation, we all know which way that's going. Oh well, I guess daddy's little son-in-law gets his toy for the night and the rest of us have to pay the price.
Jason Mills of La Crosse, Wisc. (0.0): Best Match: Re-run of "Cops." Worst Match: Um... yeah... I really tried to watch the show tonight, but alas it wasn't happening. The opening bit with Regal which should have been awesome didn't do anything for me, and the show sort of dropped off from there. It was nice to see Trish Stratus and Ron Simmons again, but the timing, delivery, and content all seemed off. The few matches that I flipped back to (divas lumberjack match, Smith squash, and the "main event") lacked so much luster that for real and for true I found myself watching "Beach Patrol" and a re-run of "Cops." Just not my show, I guess and I've been watching since the early '80s when I used to skip church to watch the WWF on Sunday morning. What first caused me to tune out was the Paul Burchill & Katie Lea vs. John Cutler match, especially when Ross was dismissed and Adamle was brought in. Not that announcers make a match, but bringing Adamle in served as a subliminal message that this was gonna be a dud and I tuned out. For the record I think Burchill is an awesome wrestler and Katie Lea has some great facial emoting going on. I just wish the writers could come up with something better for them. Anyway, not the best review since I didn't really watch the whole show, which in and of itself kinda gives my take on the whole thing.
Learnl Jones of Rochester N.Y. (6.5): Man, looks like all the Jeff Hardy supporters are in the house tonight. Answer this for me folks, why is it whenever Triple H wins the title, Raw suddenly becomes boring to everybody? Now, I'm not the biggest Trips fan, but I'll give him his due for the contributions he's given to this industry. For starters, he hasn't held the title for like two years before winning the strap at Backlash. He's let a lot of other guys run with the belt while losing to chumps like the aforementioned Hardy clean. You say that all he does is squash half the roster. Well, when the same match happened a couple of months ago with John Cena and Randy Orton, I didn't hear anyone complaining then. This guy came back from TWO major injuries and looks better than he has in a very long time. He's proven that it's not all about politics or who he happens to share his bed with. Look, things always slows down after WrestleMania, The months between April and July are always kinda iffy. Backlash, Judgement Day, Vengeance, ONS (which, by the way, they should stop doing altogether) and GAB are mostly toss ups. They're either surprisingly good or just okay to me. SummerSlam is when things pick up speed again and I'll assume that this year will be no different. My only complaints about tonight were (1) I wish we could've seen more of Trish Stratus! Since Raw was in her hometown, how come she couldn't come out and just say hello. What's new with you? That sort of thing. (2) If you're going to promote JBL-Cena as a big match, how come we've yet to hear from Cena? Not even a "via satellite" promo? It's only two weeks until the PPV and nothing from "The Champ." This is why it's not a good idea to have major shows so close to each other. I will agree with you that three weeks is sometimes not enough time to push storylines or to ask people to give up another forty bucks when you just had a show.
A.A. Norman of Tulsa, Okla. (9.0): BestMmatch: Carlito's Cabana with Rowdy Roddy Piper, Santino, and Cryme Tyme. Worst Match: Lumberjill Match. Based on the first few feedbacks from Raw last night, it seems that people don't like that WWE is trying to take a new approach and offer new ideas to the show. While I didn't agree with all of their new approaches, can't we give a little kudos or just exclaim "It's about time?" Or in honor of Rom Simmon's Hall of Fame induction, just exclaim "DAMN!" and hope that more changes are on the way next week? For weeks, viewers have complained on here and with their remotes that they aren't liking how the WWE is getting stale with the same top aging stars over and over with no signs of progress. Well, we had signs of progress in Kennedy as a top face, Regal as a top heel, Santino & Carlito as a top tag team, Adamle as a hopelessly terrible announcer, and Y2J & HBK as enemies. Change was inevitable, because ratings were falling. The WWE tried blowing Vince up and it didn't work. The WWE tried having a bastard son angle, but that has run its course. I can't say that I agree that this show was entirely awful because of all the changes, because it gives hope of more changes to come.
