TNA News: Mick Foley responds to SI review of "The Wrestler" calling him "homeless-looking" Dec 26, 2008 - 3:35:07 PM
Sports Illustrated's review of "The Wrestler," calling it the sports movie of the year, included a specific dig on TNA star Mick Foley in the opening paragraph: "one decidedly homeless-looking fellow." Article detailing SI.com review.
TNA published Mick Foley's response to the review, where Foley points to his New York Times best-selling resume and important role in SI writer Adam Duerson's review.
"I play an important role in Duerson's review; the real life man seemingly facing many of the same challenges that Mickey Rourke's fictional Randy The Ram Robinson, an aging broken down wrestler, faces in the film," Foley said in his response.
Foley says he talked to Duerson prior to the movie screening and adds: "Adam Duerson, in his quest to find a theme or hook for his review, lets his omission of facts and questionable interpretation of details and events pertaining to his time spent with me, mar what could have been a fine piece of journalism."
After speaking directly with Duerson, who Foley says continued to defend his opening line slight, Foley laments even talking to Duerson in the first place when his intent was merely to help Duerson understand wrestling.
"In a way, it is a shame Mr. Duerson chose to sit next to me at all. At the time of his arrival there were plenty of available seats at that small media screening. He chose to sit next to me ... specifically because he knew who I was and thought that a wrestler's insight would be helpful. It's a shame because it seems like I got in the way of what is in some ways a well written review of a great movie."
