TNA Genesis PPV Report
January 11, 2009
Charlotte, N.C.
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor

Opening video: They focused on the Main Event Mafia recently beating down everyone in TNA, focusing on the Frontline.

Bojangles Arena: Lots of blacking-out of the top section of seats. Cameras went a little wild capturing the fans on the front sections. Cue up Sonjay Dutt's theme music, but no sign of Dutt. Oh, there he is. No sign of So Cal Val for an opening X Division match of sorts. Who knows. Jimmy Rave out next to Dutt's theme music. Kiyoshi was out third for this "special unadvertised bonus match," as Tenay called it. That was more corporate-speak than a Linda McMahon press release quote.

Out for the babyfaces, Eric Young came out first. Tenay quickly said Christy Hemme is off the PPV card tonight due to an injury. As a result, they have a six-Knockout match with the winner getting a future Knockouts Title match against Kong. LAX came out next to team with Young. Tenay said Rhino hasn't showed up in the arena yet. Maybe he got run over or beat up in the hallway of the hotel. Don West said the situation has put the World Title match in doubt.

1 -- SONJAY DUTT & JIMMY RAVE & KIYOSHI vs. LAX (HOMICIDE & HERNANDEZ) & ERIC YOUNG

West quickly told us this is just a match to have some fun and not take seriously. Well, at least someone in TNA finally admitted they've watered down the X Division to just fly-around-the-ring-and-mean-nothing. LAX just straight dominated this to start things off. A few minutes into the match, they cut to a split-screen of Jim Cornette banging on the locker room door of the Main Event Mafia. No answer. He tried to the door handle, but nothing. Not sure why they keep bringing this Kiyoshi goof back. Must be part of the working relationship for a six-appearance deal with Great Muta, which includes Muta and any goof who looks and dressed in his likeness.

Thank goodness for Eric Young, who came in hot at 6:00 and cleared the ring of the heels. Rave then caught Young and smashed him onto the apron. Homicide followed with a big suicide dive onto the heels. Dutt wanted a piece, leaving Super Mex Hernandez eyeballing five warm bodies on the floor. Hernandez, the next TNA World champ, then flew over the top rope with a huge splash onto everyone. He popped to his feet after a big crowd pop and wiped his 'stache to show job well done.

Back in the ring at 10:00, things broke down. Hernandez just chucked Rave to the mat, but then Dutt caught him with a smash to the face. All six men down. Back to Cornette and Borash still knocking on the Mafia door. Oh, by the way, this is an elimination deal. On cue, Dutt smashed Young and pinned him with his feet on the ropes. Crowd thought it was done, but it's elimination. In any event, Young's out.

Homicide went to work on Rave, but Rave avoided a corner situation and rolled him up with a hook of the tights for another elimination. So, it's Hernnadez vs. everyone. Hernandez bullied folks around before t-shirt-tossing Rave across the ring. Hernandez then cracker-jack tossed Dutt before giving Kiyoshi the Border Toss across the ring for a pin and an elimination. Dutt tried a sneak attack, but Hernandez caught him and nailed a sick sit-out powerbomb for a pin. Rave tried a sneak attack, but Hernandez whipped him into the corner. He then back-flipped onto the top rope and shoved Rave to the corner of the mat. Hernandez then nailed a big top rope splash onto Rave and made the pin for the win. Afterward, Homicide re-entered the ring to celebrate.

WINNER: Hernandez in 14:00. Hernandez replaces Rhino and wins the TNA World Title via cashing in the case. Let's make it happen. Otherwise, a strong "Triple H" treatment for Hernandez, who dominated this one. (**1/2)

Backstage: Scott Steiner finally opened the Mafia door to talk to Cornette, who wanted to know what's up with Rhino. Steiner said he doesn't care about Rhino and the fact is that Rhino is a drunk and a piece of trash. He said he's probably lying in a gutter somewhere. Cornette wanted an answer, but Steiner closed the door in his face.

In-ring: We're already going to the X Division Title tournament match. Ya know, get the kids off the show already before their bed-time. So lame how TNA treats anyone associated with the X Division as second-rate behind the Shane Sewell > X Division formula. Alex Shelley came out first for the X Division tournament finale. Re-start the music and out came Chris Sabin.

2 -- CHRIS SABIN vs. ALEX SHELLEY -- X Division Title match -- Tournament final

This had the makings of a sick (in a good way) match early on. They went serious to start things off, with both men having very serious demeanors on their face. Sabin and Shelley had a very nice early exchange leading to a standing ovation from fans ringside. Sabin took control for the first time at 4:00 with a kick to the head before going to the mat for some submission holds. Tenay re-referenced the Oz vs. Kazmaier match Mick Foley dropped in his promo on the Guns on Impact. Some background. Oz = Kevin Nash. Kazmaeir beat Nash at Halloween Havoc 1991, which featured the infamous Chamber of Horrors match.

At 10:00, both men recovered to their feet and traded chops to the chest. Sabin landed a flying elbow smash in one corner, then Shelley followed in the opposite. Sabin followed in the opposite to end the exchange before going up top for a sick springboard Tornado DDT for a two count. Sabin went back to the apron where Shelley countered a smash into the Crossface. West said this reminds him of the classic X Division match-ups between Jerry Lynn and A.J. Styles from the old days.

Sabin nailed a Tiger Suplex with a bridge at 12:00, and Shelley just managed to kick out. Crowd slowly warming up to the action, as fans on the front section started to stand up for a closer look. Shelley smashed Sabin with a high clothesline before hitting the Celtic Cross for a two count. They battled up top where Sabin missed with a huracanrana and Shelley followed with a powerbomb. He went up top himself, and Sabin got his knees up to block a frog splash. Sabin recovered first and went up top where he missed a missile dropkick. Shelley then went up top and nailed a frog splash to the back. He wasn't done, though. Shelley nailed a sick frog splash clear across from the opposite side of the ring and appeared to have it done, but Sabin kicked out. Believable nearfall. "This is awesome," chant from the crowd. That's legit from a TNA audience for once.

Sabin came out of nowhere with a sick clothesline that turned Shelley inside out, then he snapped Shelley onto his shoulders and hit the Cradle Shock for a two count only. Wow. What a nearfall. They took it back up top where Sabin wanted a top rope Shock, but Shelley fought it off and superkicked him. Shelley then wanted Sliced Bread, and he connected. Shelley made the cover, but Sabin kicked out just in time. Shelley tried to come back, but Sabin nailed him with a kick to the face that rocked his teeth. Seriously, something went flying.

Shelley suddenly went to the mat favoring his ankle. Sabin was on the apron for a springboard move, so he walked back into the ring. Sabin was a touch tentative, then he turned his back to discuss things with the ref, leading to Shelley predictably - but still great - rolling up Sabin from behind for the pin and the win to capture the belt. They replayed the highspots, then Shelley extended his hand to Sabin, who tentatively accepted before Shelley embraced him with a big hug.

WINNER: Alex Shelley in 17:00 to capture the X Division Title. We have an early Match of the Year contender from TNA in 2009. What a match. TNA finally let the X Division stars "go" in the ring and they definitely stole the show, even winning over a non-Impact Zone audience that you can tell is a little sleepy tonight. Great athleticism, highspots, and pacing. Shelley was great getting one over his default follower. (****1/2)

Backstage: Borash wanted an update from Rhino. Cornette said he can't find out anything. And, on top of that, apparently Kevin Nash has a steph infection from Japan and could have blood poisoning if he wrestles tonight. We have no Nash. Cornette said he's calling someone more important right now. Mick Foley interrupted and said he's excited about his return to the ring. Cornette tried to tell Foley about Kevin Nash's situation. Foley said they promised the fans a six-man tag match, and they're giving the fans a six-man tag. And they have until the bell to find a suitable replacement or it'll be a handicap match.

Ringside: Tenay and West were befuddled. Hemme injured. Rhino isn't here. Nash is in the hospital. Even if two out of three are storyline-related, it makes TNA look very bush league to tell the audience they've essentially lost control of the talent roster.

In-ring: Sheik Abdul Bashir came to the ring first to face ref Shane Sewell. For Shane, they couldn't have picked a crappier intro to his theme music before it picked up to the generic TNA guitar and power chord ring intro. Shane was sporting a cut-off referee basketball jersey.

3 -- SHEIK ABDUL BASHIR vs. SHANE SEWELL

"This is a fight. This is a war," West said. Keep that line handy for Angle vs. Jarrett later on. Ref Earl Hebner was assigned this one, and Hebner has been the silent player in this whole mess. Shane was on the offensive early and often, then they went to the floor. Someone spilled a lot of popcorn ringside. Announcers focused heavily on Earl early on. Sheik shoved Shane at 2:00, then Shane came back with an arm drag. West said Shane took the ref gig because he needed to put food on the plate. As opposed to a napkin? I know it's tough with a live broadcast, but it's fun listening to West try to incorporate sayings into his commentary.

Bashir bailed from the ring at 3:00 to re-group, then Shane chased him up the ramp and clubbed him to the ground. Again, ref Earl reprimanding Shane. West with an update that there is no update on Rhino. Sheik then crotched Shane on a guardrail ringside right in front of a very large Carolina Panthers fan. Could have used him last night against Arizona. Shane made it back into the ring before the ten count, then Sheik put the boots to Shane.

Shane made his comeback with the big-eyed Hulk Up at 8:00 before nailing a shot to the gut and a bulldog for a two count. Bashir nailed a jawbreaker, but Shane came back with a back elbow. He then went up top and hit a cross body block for a two count. Shane then tapped into the Ric Flair crowd and slapped on the figure four in center ring. Sheik grabbed the ropes, though.

Sheik then hot-shot Shane across the top rope before landing forearm blows to the forehead. Ref Earl then got into a shoving match with Bashir, who tried to punch Earl, but Earl slapped him across the face. Shane then comically chased Earl across the ring until Shane clotheslined Bashir. Looked like Charles Barkley racing Dick Bavetta. Shane then floated over over Bashir and sunset flip pinned Shane. Looked like a fast count from Earl. All the refs then celebrated with Shane on the outside afterward. Goofy moment number ten on this show thus far.

WINNER: Shane in 12:00. I sure hope Sting wasn't holding out for the figure four pop later in the show, as Shane took that one third match into the show. Okay match. Shane is fundamentally sound, which has allowed him to stick around in wrestling for quite some time. (**)

Backstage: Borash was with Booker T and Sharmell while Jim Cornette wanted to investigate the Rhino situation. Sharmell spoke to Cornette, then Booker stepped in with his African-king accent to intimidate Cornette. Ref Shane then led the refs over to prevent Booker from doing damage to Cornette. Booker went back to the Heat accent and told Shane he's going to bury him if he ever puts his hands on him again. Cornette held Shane back, teasing a future Legends Title match.

In-ring: Abyss came out first for the TNA tag title match. His best friend forever, Matt Morgan, came out next. I wonder if Jeff Jarrett labels him as being from "up North" when in conversation. Beer Money came out as the second opposing team. West said Roode had some pain in his knee on Impact when they lost the straps, but he's doing better today. Creed and Lethal came out next to defend the tag titles.

4 -- TNA tag team champions CONSEQUENCES CREED & JAY LETHAL vs. BEER MONEY, INC. (ROBERT ROODE & JAMES STORM w/Miss Jacqueline) vs. ABYSS & MATT MORGAN -- TNA tag team title match

Story early on was Roode, Storm, and Jackie caught in a very lewd position from the heel playboy of showing your rear end to get a pop. Fans with a "T&A" chant, I believe this time. Morgan tried to channel Hernandez with a big splash onto everyone on the floor. Back in the ring, Abyss did the Big Show extended-hand-to-the-roof signal for a chokeslam, but Beer Money cut him off.

Action broke down at 10:00 with men flying all over the ring. Morgan then caught Creed in mid-air with the big bicycle kick that send Creed rolling to the floor. Storm then snuck up behind Morgan and nailed the backcracker. Roode and Storm then wanted a double team move, but the logistics were all off. Jackie then ran interference and Abyss accidentally KO'ed Morgan with one of the tag title belts. Jackie and the ref continued to talk, even as Lethal had a pin on Morgan. Ref then tried to boot Jackie to end the mess. Meanwhile, Storm hit a superkick on Lethal to remove him from the equation. Roode then covered Morgan for the win.

WINNERS: Beer Money in 15:00 to re-capture the TNA tag titles. What a terribly over-booked tag match that didn't hold the audience's attention. (3/4*)

Post-match: Abyss tried to passively aggressively approach Morgan to apologize, but Morgan shoved him. Abyss started to snap, but Morgan pushed him back. Morgan told him it's time. Abyss fought back tears of frustration.

Backstage: Borash was following Kurt Angle around the hallway. Angle stopped to cut a promo on the receptionist, throwing in a Carolina Panthers loss reference. Angle then stormed into Cornette's office and screamed at him that if you want to talk to the Mafia, you come to me first. Cornette wanted to know what's up with Rhino. Angle said they approached Rhino at his hotel room and kindly gave him an offer he couldn't refuse. He refused. So, they beat him down to within an inch of life and threw him off into a vacant lot. But, they gave him cab fare! Cause that's the kind of guys they are. Angle told Cornette that Rhino ain't showing up and you better find a replacement. Angle stormed off, then Cornette slammed his hand on the desk.

In-ring: Roxxi, Christy Hemme, and ODB came to the ring for the babyface trio to face Kong's Kongtourage of Bolt, Rhaka Khan, and Raisha.

5 -- TAYLOR WILDE & ROXXI & ODB vs. KONGTOURAGE (RAISHA SAEED & SOJOURNER BOLT & RHAKA KHAN)

Early on, Taylor "got the crap beat out of her," as Don West put it. The heels cut off Taylor from making the hot tag to a teammate until ODB grabbed the tag at 6:00. ODB knocked around the heels before attempting a scoop slam on Khan. After some awkwardness, ODB landed a modified fallaway slam on Khan. Suddenly, the whole deal comically fell apart. Roxxi ended up on the floor with Bolt and Khan and they kinda stumbled around ringside before Taylor came off the top with a splash for over-done spot number 100 tonight. Back in the ring, ODB rolled up Raisha for the win.

Post-match: Taylor and Roxxi raised ODB's hand in victory. ODB gets a future title shot. Knockouts champion Awesome Kong then showed up to intimidate ODB in the ring. Kong pushed ODB a little, then ODB pumped herself up. Suddenly, the whole deal broke free. A random tolling of the bell did nothing to break this up. Khan then ridiculously attempted to sell a choke on Taylor while not actually doing anything. Kong gave ODB a chokeslam in mid-ring.

WINNER: ODB in 7:00 to become #1 contender. Crowd wasn't buying what they were selling here. Outside-the-ring activity before the finish was laughably bad. Post-match was equally laughable involving Khan. (1/2*)

Backstage: Borash was with Sting and Jim Cornette. Cornette wanted to know how Sting can put up with this when his goons take out the #1 contender to his title. Sting said he didn't condone it, nor did he have anything to do with it. All he knows is that he hasn't been to Charlotte in 15 years and he showed up to defend his title tonight whether Rhino gets here or not. He walked off in a huff.

Video package: They focused on the Angle vs. Jarrett feud, then Angle came out first for the grudge match against Jarrett, who hit the ring and went right after Angle.

6 -- KURT ANGLE vs. JEFF JARRETT

TNA rubber-stamped this as a No DQ match because that's just the way it has to be. Suddenly, they cut backstage to show a disheveled-looking man chucking items across a locker room. Announcers said Rhino has arrived at Genesis. Refs tried to intervene and calm Rhino down. Back to the ring where Jarrett grabbed a beer and threw it in Angle's face for a taste of the brew. Jarrett tried to follow up in the ring, but Angle shoved him off the apron into the guardrail to begin his offensive attack. Jarrett came back at 7:00 with a back drop that took Angle to the floor, then Jarrett tried a dive over the top rope, but he clipped his knee on the top rope and nearly broke his neck trying to splash Angle, who reached out to absorb the blow.

Angle then recovered and sent Jarrett into the announce table. He then grabbed the ring bell and smashed it clear into Jarrett's forehead. Jarrett slumped down behind the desk and came up bleeding heavily from the forehead. Jarrett and Angle battled onto the ramp and landed a DDT on the entrance. They battled up to the stage where Angle landed an Angle Slam off the stage through the pyro table a few feet below. West over-exaggerated that neither man is going to be able to walk again. On cue, Jarrett stood up. Meanwhile, Angle left a trail of drool down the entrance area back to ringside.

They picked up the feud back in the ring at 14:00 with both men trying to build momentum until Jarrett landed a knock-down series of clotheslines. Jarrett then nailed a weak-looking Pedigree, which Tenay called a plant DDT. Jarrett wanted the Stroke, but Angle rolled through into the ankelock. Jarrett broke free, then Angle brought a chair into the ring. Jarrett ducked, though, and kicked the chair into Angle's face. He followed with the Stroke for a close two count. Angle then came up with the Angle Slam and had the pin, but Jarrett classically picked up his shoulders instead of kicking out to prevent a three count.

Angle charged Jarrett hard in the corner, but Jarrett moved and Angle smashed his left shoulder into the ringpost. Jarrett then snuck out the guitar and measured Angle, but Angle kicked Jarrett right in the groin. Angle then picked up the guitar and the chair. Crowd responded for the guitar, so he grabbed the chair. LOL. Angle measured Jarrett, then he smacked Jarrett across the top of the head. Great, a chair shot to the head in 2009 involving the owner of the company. Great example for the rest of the roster. Angle made a cover, but only got a two count. Angle argued with the ref, then grabbed Jarrett and slapped on the anklelock. Jarrett screamed out in pain, but broke free.

At 20:00, Jarrett countered the Olympic Slam into a DDT. Jarrett then Hulked Up and tossed aside the guitar when it broke. Jarrett grabbed the chair and smashed Angle in the face. Thankfully, Angle got his hands up to absorb the blow slightly. Jarrett hobbled over to make a cover, but it was good for a two count only. Angle then quickly rolled Jarrett's shoulders over and crucifix pinned a surprised Jarrett for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Angle in 23:00. That was a pretty darn good match if you can get past the multiple chair shots to the head and Jarrett's blown spot with the over-the-top-rope dive. Jarrett knows how to tell that main event story, while Angle is TNA's top in-ring talent month after month. Great chemistry in the ring. Crowd was genuinely into the action for the first time since Sabin vs. Shelley. (***3/4)

Post-match: Medics tried to check on Jarrett, who was recovering in the corner. Angle then slowly grabbed a chair and stalked Jarrett to inflict more damage. Refs scrammed, then Angle stomped on Jarrett's ankle with it inside the chair. Jarrett was left a bloody mess with his ankle stuck in the chair as Angle left the ring. They stayed with a camera shot of Jarrett needing the stretcher to help him out of the ring.

Backstage: Rhino was sitting in the locker room with a bandage around his head. Cornette pleaded with him to listen and not risk further damage by trying to wrestle tonight. Rhino spoke through the blood on his face that he's going out to the ring tonight and no one will stand in his way.

In-ring: Back to the ring where Jarrett was put on a stretcher and wheeled out of the ring. Back ringside, Tenay and West sold real feelings of hurt for Jarrett. Tenay waved his Sharpie in front of the camera, then held up a towel with the blood of Jeff Jarrett. He said Angle crossed the line. Tenay then told them to roll the mandatory replay. They showed Jarrett getting his ankle smashed. Back to Tenay, who said that's enough and demanded they roll the title video package on Rhino vs. Sting.

In-ring: With Borash in the ring for the formal ring intros, Rhino came to the ring first with a band-age around his head. Barely a reaction. They cut backstage to show Sting slowly walking with the TNA Title belt slung over his shoulder. Sting was clearly the babyface here despite being a heel on TV. Fans aren't buying the sympathetic babyface injury angle for Rhino.

7 -- TNA World Hvt. champion STING vs. RHINO -- TNA World Title match

Before the bell could sound, Rhino attacked Sting and tried to bring the attack to him. Rhino tried to play to the crowd after getting the opening advantage, but they booed him. Rhino didn't seem to get it. The match predictably moved to the floor where Rhino whipped Sting around the ringside area. Back in the ring, Sting took control and the crowd cheered for him. Rhino suddenly came back with a Gore, but Sting rolled out of the way of a pin attempt. Rhino then tried a top rope dive, but Sting easily moved. Sting then slapped on the Scorpion deathlock and slightly sat down on the hold. Rhino broke free, then he teased the Gore to a chorus of boos

WINNER: Sting in 9:00 to retain the TNA Title. Hard to remember the last time a wrestling company delivered an advertised title match when everyone would have preferred the indirectly teased replacement title match of Sting vs. Hernandez. Crowd was there to cheer Sting and they definitely weren't buying into Rhino's injury angle. It's not Rhino's fault; it's simply TNA presenting the Mafia as the cool heel faction and Sting being the pseudo babyface with history in Charlotte that over-rides any TNA angle. (*)

Backstage: Borash was with Styles, Devon, and Foley for a pre-main event promo. A.J. Styles instantly became defensive and played the underdog card. Styles said he's doing this for Samoa Joe and his newborn son. Devon said he won't do a whole lot of yelling and screaming, but he feels where Styles is coming from with Brother Ray. He said he will keep the promise to Ray because the Frontline will take care of business. Swing it around to Foley, who was slowly entering Cactus Jack promo mode. Foley rhetorically asked which Foley shows up tonight. Borash's eyes bugged out as Foley entered promoland.

In-ring: Booker T, Sharmell, and Scott Steiner came to the ring ahead of the main event six-man tag. Booker said he's sorry to inform everyone that Kevin Nash will not be here tonight. Light booing. Booker said Nash suffered a staph infection in the elbow, but they have found an exceptional replacement. Their replacement: Cutie Kip. Could have picked up like two additional buys if they advertised Kip in the main event.

In the ring, Kip took the mic and thanked Booker for having him out here. Kip then entered mean-streak promoland and told the audience not to let the Cute Kip thing throw you off because he's a major champion. Kip listed his WWE title reigns before cutting a promo on the Carolina Panthers. Law of diminishing returns on that local heel heat line. Brother Devon then came out first for the babyface trio. A.J. Styles came out second, then Mick Foley emerged for his TNA in-ring debut.

8 -- FRONTLINE (BROTHER DEVON & A.J. STYLES & MICK FOLEY) vs. MAIN EVENT MAFIA & SUITABLE REPLACEMENT (Legends champion BOOKER T (w/Sharmell) & SCOTT STEINER & KIP JAMES)

After the bell sounded, Steiner dropped a "motherf-----" on Don West with no bleep. Tenay said he hopes they have a seven second delay. Nope. Foley vs. Kip, Styles vs. Steiner, and Devon vs. Booker were the opening pairings before this thing broke down. Frontline regrouped in the ring, then Mafia returned to the ring and Kip accepted a Styles dropsault. Frontline continued to work on the Mafia before Booker cut Styles off to set up the Mafia's attack on Styles. Kip then wanted the Fameasser on Styles, but Styles moved and hit the Pele kick. Nice. Foley took a hot tag and he came into the ring to gingerly knock folks around. Steiner then cut off Foley with a clothesline. Action broke down all over the ring, then ref counted everyone out. Fans booed the decision.

Not quite so fast, said Jim Cornette, who came out on stage. Cornette said he's been coming to Charlotte for 25 years and we don't do things down here. He said that by the power vested in me, I order a re-start to the match. Foley applauded that, then Booker took the mic and said everyone knows Cornette ain't got the authority to do that, so by the power invested in him, this match is over. Foley took the mic and said Cornette doesn't have the authority, but as executive shareholder, he does. Conflict of interest at its finest. Foley said they're re-starting it under hardcore roles.

And off they went again with anything goes part III tonight. Weapons were tossed into the ring where Styles hit a dropkick on Booker. On the ramp, Foley had a trash can full of weapons he dumped on Kip. Crowd wanted tables. Ten minutes until the top of the hour here. Meanwhile, Booker dumped Foley onto the announce table and into the lap of the announcers. Foley superman recovered and got wood per the fans. He wanted a dive onto Kip from the announce table, which Tenay way over-sold, but Booker crotched him from behind. Styles suddenly flew off the top rope with a dive onto Kip through the table on the floor. Sweet, but the camera missed it. Fortunately, they had a replay.

In the ring, Devon fought Steiner in the ring before going up top and hitting a diving headbutt. Way too many highspots tonight, as the crowd didn't pop for that. Devon stood up, but Booker hit the axe kick. Booker wanted the Spinaroonie, but Foley slipped back into the ring to make Booker eat Mr. Socko. Steiner smashed Foley from behind with a can, though. Foley quickly recovered and grabbed a chair. Booker had to sell fear forever, making it completely comical, then Foley finally figured out the chair situation and hit Booker. Foley then gave Steiner a DDT and pinned him for the win. Foley > Frontline.

WINNERS: Frontline in 16:00. Unless Mick Foley is going to wrestle a full-time schedule, wrestle house show matches as the headline act, and be involved in the World Title picture as a top contender, it makes no sense for Foley to constantly be positioned as the only wrestler capable of getting one over the Mafia. Another short-sighted booking decision. Match was just a rinse, repeat from the previous two matches. (**)
