Other News: How Bruce Springsteen became involved with "The Wrestler" movie; number of re-writes to script Nov 20, 2008 - 1:33:42 PM
The critically-acclaimed "The Wrestler" movie opens in U.S. theaters next month and in the U.K. on January 16, 2009. Getting to this point of having a movie out in theaters was quite the undertaking, however.
According to director Darren Aronofsky, the film went through 25 drafts to in a long development process before finally being approved for the final filming.
One of the key components of the film is the soundtrack music, which Bruce Springsteen has contributed to with his key theme song, "The Wrestler."
Springsteen became involved in the movie after a personal plea from lead actor Mickey Rourke. Rourke told "Uncut" that he wrote Springsteen a personal letter "because we've known each other over twenty years, and he knows what I used to be, or whatever. Where I went. What I'd been reduced to. I told him how I felt lucky now and didn't have to end up being this guy, being Randy (the lead character)."
Rourke says Springsteen called him in the middle of the night soon thereafter and said he would write a song for nothing.
"I was honored he took the time, because he's a busy cat," Rourke said. "I mean, I'm so goddam proud of this magical movie and to have Bruce's input ... ain't nobody in Hollywood with all their millions can just ring the man and he'll do a song, y'know?"
