Former WWE Cruiserweight champion Nunzio (James Maritato) was released from WWE in August of this year and he's currently wrestling on independent shows in the Northeast.
After floating around on Smackdown and ECW during the summer, he says was surprised when he was released from his contract, but knew the door would still be open down the road if WWE wanted to bring him back.
"At that moment it did," Nunzio told Tommy Fierro on Who's Slamming Who radio about whether he was taken by surprise on the release. "I was a little surprised. You always think in the back of your mind that one day it could happen. We'll see down the road (about a return)."
Nunzio was asked about WWE's version of the F.B.I. group that was created in ECW under Paul Heyman's watch, then turned into a more serious act in WWE.
"I did like the version (in WWE) because it was more serious," he said. "In ECW, we were more comical. The WWE one had us more in a serious role. It was something different for me to do."
He added that it enhanced his career. "We were able to work and get experience. Work with The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar at the time; a lot of good guys to be in the ring with to help in your career. It was a great opportunity for me."
Nunzio was also asked about whether he's considered a move to TNA to be part of their X Division. Nunzio says he hasn't talked to anyone in TNA, but he watches the product regularly.
"I watch TNA. I'm only going from the outside looking in, but what I hear is that everyone is nice and friendly," he said. "It looks like a bunch of great guys to work with. WWE had that for a while with the Cruiserweight division, but they (TNA) use the X Division so it seems like an opportunity. I haven't spoken to anyone yet, so nothing's going on, but it's definitely an option."
Nunzio would make a fine addition to the x division roster. If TNA can keep
adding new X division wrestlers maybe the division can be revived back to
the early days of the x division.

TNA definitely needs to truly invest in the strong suits that set them
apart: the X-Division and their Women's Division. Nunzio/Guido would fill
out the X-Division nicely, as he did in those fantastic ECW Super
Crazy/Tajiri/LG Three-Way-Dances, and work well with TNA's bumper crop of
talented younger guys.
I'd love to see Stevie Richards in TNA too, but they're already overloaded
with a roster they're not utilizing terribly well.
Would they bog the rechristened "Jimmy Balboa" in a series of short matches
against Consequences Creed?
