4/1 NEWS: WWE signs Ric Flair to a three-year, ten-retirement contract extension Apr 1, 2008 - 7:33:29 PM
STAMFORD, Conn. - Seeking to capitalize on the general goodwill created by Monday's passionate sendoff of Ric Flair, World Wrestling Entertainment announced Tuesday the company has signed the legendary wrestler to a three-year, ten-retirement contract extension.
In a statement posted at the company's Web site, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon noted overwhelmingly positive fan reaction to Monday's retirement ceremony and said he is "just giving the people what they want."
"We here at WWE seek to provide our fans with the best in sports entertainment," McMahon said. "Our loyal fans drive this business, and it seems clear to me Ric Flair's retirement is the next 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin."
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, though an anonymous source within WWE said Flair will be paid "enough money to retire comfortably at least three times a year for the next three years."
