(This was originally published Saturday in the new PWTorch VIP Blog section.)

As I talked about last night on the Keller Hotline, the injection of Brock Lesnar and Batista into the WrestleMania 28 discussion adds a lot of intriguing twists.

We've been saying for weeks that it's difficult to imagine a finish between The Rock and John Cena without complications and hard-to-reconcile downsides. However, if former "Baddest Man on the Planet" and former UFC Hvt. Champion and former WWE World Hvt. Champion shows up for the match and influences the finish, I could see fans being "okay" with a non-clean finish. Or better put, Lesnar's distraction or interference would give Cena or Rock "an out" for losing to the other.

I am pro-Cena vs. Lesnar and anti-Rock vs. Lesnar.

Cena vs. Lesnar makes more sense. Rock vs. Lesnar is a novelty one-off celebrity match that nobody is going to believe could "get real" or be anything more than a "spectacle." Fans won't see Lesnar as a long-term WWE player, win or lose, and of course that's true for Rock. So what's at steak? Nothing but bragging rights, but bragging rights that really don't last past the match.

Cena vs. Lesnar, on the other hand, pits the top UFC draw of the last five years against the top WWE draw of the last five years. Lesnar could believably pitch that if he beats Cena, he's going to be around to stay and destroy everyone afterward. Cena could really be fighting to keep The Beast out of WWE by proving he's not just washed up in UFC, but he can't return home and dominate WWE like he once did. It's an interesting story. I also think Cena is more believable against Lesnar. Rock has never been a tough guy. Neither has Cena, but Cena is five years younger and is capable of cutting more of an in-your-face street promo than Rock. Cena has shown us with his promos with Rock that he could probably rile up Lesnar for real (although I suspect Cena would even, ever so slightly, fear saying the wrong thing and going too far with Lesnar).

Of course, Lesnar could come in the Triple H vs. Undertaker match instead. Heck, to some people that's the obvious move. Lesnar vs. Undertaker has already been teased. There are two potential money-making finishes.

One, Lesnar helps Undertaker win, wanting to keep the streak alive so he could be the one to end it next year. That could set up both Taker-Lesnar at WM29, plus Lesnar vs. a revenge-seeking Hunter at Summerslam. Lesnar can make big money in those scenarios without the hard training camp and getting hit in the head for real over and over (or, in his case, in the intestinal area).

Two, Lesnar helps Triple H. Hunter gets to be the person to end Taker's streak, but even more so, Lesnar will have done the ultimate heel move in WWE - besmirched the much-revered "Streak." He will have ruined it and Undertaker would have ever reason to seek ultimate revenge next year.

There are no shortage of ways to actually play out any of the above scenarios in either of the matches, but there are four possible opponents (two in each) that would work for Lesnar. I don't know that one of the top PPV draws of recent years will translate into a top PPV draw for WWE, but he might. And it's worth the risk for WWE to pay him big money to make it worth his while. He's gotten the "real competition" out of his system and had to walk away for health reasons (and just mental reasons, realizing he was older and technique-wise had a steep hill to climb to compete with younger heavyweights with a huge head start; something he also faced trying out for the Vikings). Now he can return to WWE without the "what if?" scenarios in his head about how he'd do in the NFL or MMA. Now he knows, and now he can be at peace going back to doing something - even if just part time - that he was very, very, very good at in every respect - promos and wrestling.

On the business-side, planting seeds of Lesnar perhaps showing up is an X-factor to help the PPV buyrate.

As for Batista, I'm less intrigued than with Lesnar because I've seen him more recently in WWE and none of the four opponents intrigue me all that much - at least relative to Lesnar. Cena-Batista? Hunter-Batista? Undertaker-Batista? Not very novel. Seen all of them too recently.

My vote? Maybe not enough of a "dream match" but at least it'd give Rock a full-fledged heel to work against next year. Batista made for an awesome heel, and he'd be a safe agitating heel for Rock to play off of and beat at WM29.
