PWTorch reader Aaron P. asks: Randy Orton vs. John Cena on PPV again!?????

EX-ECW CHAMPION AND LONGTIME WWE WRESTLER Justin Credible (also current IWE Champion, visit www.TheJustinCredible.com and on YouTube here including his ongoing Wrestling 101 Series) answers: What else are they going to do. WWE is not doing a good job of providing fresh top wrestlers. Since the Shield and the Wyatts, there has not been a successful main event character come out of NXT. The lack of Superstars that are not bred in the WWE is going to really start to show soon. I just don't feel that this business is putting out strong enough talent to survive at a high-level. I think the wrestling business in general needs to reevaluate how and who we use. We are at alarming times in this business. And we are stifling guys creatively and making them read off a script. We are also denying traditionally older veteran wrestlers from participating in major wrestling companies because now it is not cool to have anybody over 40 that can still work. Back in The day, World Champions were in their mid-to-late 40s. You did not have success until basically you'd had 15 so years in the business. That is what bookers felt. Now there are very few guys over 40 at all anywhere in the wrestling business. I think it is time that we reevaluate a lot of things in pro wrestling and I think of guys can still deliver the goods they should go outside of the WWE talent pool to bring in guys who could still perform at a high-level.

PROFESSIONAL BROADCASTER Jim Valley (Long time wrestling fan, Torch subscriber, and currently PWTorch Livecast guest host. He won a National Edward R. Murrow Award and several regional awards during his 20 year broadcast career. He has done TV announcing for several independent wrestling promotions, hosted his own wrestling radio show, interviewed many top stars, and was flown out to Stamford to audition for WWE. He took second to Todd Grisham.) For only $9.99 a month!!w, low price of $9.99 on the WWE Network! Tell your friends!

PWTorch reader Damian H. asks: PWTorch editors and other famous wrestling podcasters are in agreement that the WWE doesn't feature varied body types. Is this really true? The meme seems to be "everyone looks like Cena or Orton" or that one must be ripped to get a push. What year are you comparing WWE to when it comes to the homogeneous look allegedly seen today? When did everyone allegedly look the same? The current main roster has around 40-50 guys and perhaps 25 percent are unusual guys like Big Show, Kane, Wyatt Family, and Mark Henry or average looking dudes like Bo Dallas, Dean Ambrose, Daniel Bryan, Damien Sandow, and the Rhodes Brothers. Isn't that varied enough? There are certainly super-ripped guys but some are jobbers like Big E, Titus, Jack Swagger, and Ryback. Then there are guys like Miz, Usos, Rollins, Reigns, and Dolph who have good bodies but are not in Cena's body type class. Not sure how Curtis Axel gets labeled. Please clarify this homogenous body type theme so I could better understand the argument.

EX-WWE CREATIVE TEAM MEMBER John Piermarini (ex-WWE Creative Team member 2009-2010, frequent PWTorch Livecast guest) answers: There are varied body types likes there are varied genres of music in your library. But you choose to play a certain genre more than the other. You won't neglect to download a good hip hop song because your favorite style is alternative, but you prefer to play alternative if you had your choice. Same in WWE. Maybe Vince prefers the "Cena body,” but he's really into Bray Wyatt's character, so he pushes him. Although, in the end, when there's a choice between two songs, he's going to go play that alternative track. We would all do the same.

EX-ECW CHAMPION AND LONGTIME WWE WRESTLER Justin Credible (also current IWE Champion, visit www.TheJustinCredible.com and on YouTube here including his ongoing Wrestling 101 Series) answers: I just think what they mean by body types is you don't get to see you guys like King Kong Bundy or Bam Bam Bigelow. I just think that we are seeing everyone that is being asked to be ripped and caught leaner and faster. I think the conversation is a little overblown.

PWTorch reader Clint D. asks: Hey guys, this is a two part question: (1) Now that The Streak is over, what does this mean for future WrestleManias? (2) If Undertaker were given extra time between now and WM32 to heal up, could we see the loss being avenged and have Undertaker retire in his hometown?

MAINSTREAM WRESTLING MEDIA REPORTER Brian Fritz (host of Between the Ropes podcast and reporter for Sporting News, former AOL Fanhouse and Yahoo Sports reporter) answers: Clint, I know it's not official but I think The Undertaker has had his last match. As for future Manias, it just means that The Streak is over and maybe someone else has to start one of their own. I really don't think Taker would take two years off just to come back and get a win over Lesnar. It wouldn't make any sense at that point. If Taker decides to get back in the ring, I'm not sure who he would square off against and how they would do it. It just makes perfect sense that he ride off in the sunset by losing to Lesnar at WrestleMania.

REALITY TV STAR & EX-TNA MANAGER Jonny Fairplay (@jonnyfairplay was also former personal assistant to Roddy Piper and cohost with Sean Waltman of weekly podcast at www.ProWrestling.net) answers: (1) Future Manias could have the start of a new streak with Roman Reigns after he defeats Brock. (2) Hall of Fame in Taker’s hometown will be good enough for me.

PWTorch reader Joe from Hartsville, S.C. asks: I throughly enjoy the site and the app and have been a fan for a long time. My question is why do they talk so much about Brock Lesnar's Mixed Martial Arts career like he was an unstoppable force? He only defended the title four times and lost it in his 4th defense and had the second worst win/loss record of any UFC Heavyweight Champion before or after him. He also had the fewest fights out of everybody that has ever been UFC Heavyweight Champion and his first fight was against a 42 year old man who was on the downside of his career. When he started fighting legitimate beasts, he got eaten alive quickly. Don't they realize that fans can do their research and see that his time in UFC wasn't really that impressive?

MAINSTREAM WRESTLING MEDIA REPORTER Brian Fritz (host of Between the Ropes podcast and reporter for Sporting News, former AOL Fanhouse and Yahoo Sports reporter) answers: Joe, it doesn't matter how many fights Lesnar had or how many times he defended the belt. It's all about shaping an argument. Bottom line: Brock Lesnar was the UFC Heavyweight Champion. Period. Just like he was the NCAA Heavyweight Champion. It doesn't matter who he beat, how he won, how many title defense he had, but just that he won those titles. Now, they can use those accolades to help him in the WWE in building him up to be a monster.

REALITY TV STAR & EX-TNA MANAGER Jonny Fairplay (@jonnyfairplay was also former personal assistant to Roddy Piper and cohost with Sean Waltman of weekly podcast at www.ProWrestling.net) answers: He also drew more money in UFC PPV’s than anyone else and was arguably the biggest star in the history of MMA despite his short tenure.

MMATorch editor Jamie Penick adds: There are several inaccuracies which need to be addressed in the question here before we can even move to the heart of the concern. For starters, Lesnar's first ever fight was against a then 32-year-old Min Soo-Kim, his first UFC fight was against Frank Mir who was 28 at the time and on the up-swing of his MMA career. Lesnar also didn't defend the title four times, as no UFC Heavyweight Champion has defended the belt more than twice; he won the title from Randy Couture and defended it in the rematch with Mir and a win over Shane Carwin. I'm not sure where you're getting your figures from, but much of the details were incorrect to begin with here.

With that said, to downplay what Lesnar did in the UFC given how late he entered the game is disingenuous at best and/or intentionally disrespectful. He fought a former UFC Champion on his way back into the mix in Mir in his second ever MMA fight. He then beat a veteran of nearly 50 fights in just his third fight, and dominated him doing so. When you say he "got eaten alive" when he fought the "legitimate beasts" of the division, you're conveniently ignoring the very serious issues with diverticulitis that took him out for a year, and the fact that the loss to Cain Velasquez was against clearly the best fighter in that division. Add in another year-long diverticulitis-induced layoff prior to the Alistair Overeem fight, and there are mitigating circumstances to those defeats.

Put quite simply, of course Brock Lesnar isn't the greatest heavyweight fighter in UFC history, but his shortened run - against the level of competition he faced from the outset in the UFC - is absolutely impressive and deserving of respect.

In case you are new to this feature, let me introduce you to our All-Star Panel…

EDITOR'S INTRODUCTION: By Wade Keller, PWTorch editor

Thanks to Pat McNeill and Anthony Jeselnik for the name of this feature. Just as "CSI" spawned "CSI: Miami," "Ask PWTorch" spawned "Ask PWTorch: All-Star Panel." Only without David Caruso. In any case, we are excited to present to you a new cast for the Ask PWTorch spinoff, which is available exclusively on the PWTorch App (or, for VIP members, on the VIP website too). You are reading this, so you are either a VIP member or have already downloaded the free PWTorch App on your phone or tablet. If you aren't a VIP member, why not? With VIP membership, you gain full access to both Ask PWTorch features on all devices you use to visit PWTorch - our App and our Website.

The "Ask PWTorch All-Star Panel" edition is scheduled to be published first thing in the morning (although not necessarily every single day, like the afternoon website-based Ask PWTorch is; we'll see about that as we move forward). It will feature an entirely different panel of experts and analysts than the afternoon Ask PWTorch does. We have assembled a wide range of contributors, which may expand or change over time, with the goal being to give PWTorch readers new perspectives from people who have particular areas of expertise. Along with our All-Stars from outside of PWTorch, several of our PWTorch contributors (but not the main staff who contribute to the website-based original Ask PWTorch!… you will be quizzed on all of this, so take notes) will also be regularly contributing, especially to current-events-related questions.

Let me introduce you to our panel…

Justin Credible: Current pro wrestler and former ECW Champion and longtime WWE wrestler in the 1990s and 2000s, Justin Credible (P.J. Polaco) currently is the IWE Champion. He travels as indy champion from Maine to Mexico with the title. He posts new Wrestling 101 YouTube videos at www.TheJustinCredible.com or on YouTube at his YouTube Channel.

John Piermarini: Ex-WWE Creative Team member who will provide a behind-the-scenes perspective from his years working for WWE including alongside Vince McMahon, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and John Cena. He has been a frequent PWTorch Livecast guest and was the subject of a comprehensive five-hour Torch Talk interview several years ago about his experience with WWE for most of 2009-2010.

Greg Oliver: SLAM! Wrestling reporter and wrestling book author (and hockey book author), Greg will provide a Canadian perspective on many wrestling topics. If you are a fan from Canada or have Canadian-related wrestling questions, Greg can help you. He is a wrestling historian who published a wrestling newsletter during the boom period of insider wrestling newsletters starting in the late 1980s. We were pen pals in the early 1990s and first met at a 1989 wrestling convention in Chicago run by Jon Gallagher of the Wrestling Forum (the first insider wrestling newsletter I ever received in the mail in early 1987).

George Schire: Author of "Minnesota's Golden Age of Wrestling," former Pro Wrestling Focus radio cohost with me in the early 1990s on KFAN, former contributor of history pieces to the PWTorch Newsletter, and multi-time guest on PWTorch Livecast "Interview Friday," he will be providing a historical perspective to Ask PWTorch.

Johnny Fairplay: Reality Star and Wrestling Manager, perhaps best known as Pat McNeill's Regis Philbin. He was an old neighbor of PWTorch senior columnist Bruce Mitchell who watched PPVs at his house long before he became a contestant on Survivor twice. He has been on many reality TV shows, the PWTorch Livecast numerous times, and follows wrestling very closely. You can read more about him on Wikipedia.

Brian Fritz: Host of the long-running "Between the Ropes" podcast, and now working for Yahoo! Sports radio, he also has been a guest on the PWTorch Livecast (and I've been a guest on his podcast), he brings years of reporting on wrestling including on-site interviews with wrestlers at major press events over the years. He follows today's wrestling and will provide his perspective and take on your questions.

Mick Karch: An early PWTorch Newsletter columnist over 20 years ago, Mick has been an announcer for virtually every national wrestling promotion other than the WWF, WCW, and TNA in the last 25 years. He currently works as an announcer on Minnesota indy wrestling shows. He got his start in wrestling running the Nick Bockwinkel Fan Club in the 1970s and is known for his sense of humor, strong opinions, and tremendous insight into wrestling's past dating back many decades, but he also watches today's wrestling regularly and can provide valuable perspective as a result of that span of time following and participating in the industry.

Brad Stutts: He has worked behind the scenes in wrestling in many roles, including taking jackets to the back, setting up and tearing down rings, running websites for indy promoters, running lights and music at live events, and performing as a manager, announcer, wrestler, and promoter. He currently is the lead announcer for CWF Mid-Atlantic Wrestling in North Carolina.

Jim Valley: Long time wrestling fan and Torch subscriber. He won a National Edward R. Murrow Award and several regional awards during his 20 year broadcast career. He has done TV announcing for several independent wrestling promotions, hosted his own wrestling radio show, interviewed many top stars and was flown our to Stamford to audition for WWE. He took second to Todd Grisham.

Current PWTorch Contributors: A mix of current PWTorch contributors will provide their opinion on today's wrestling scene and modern wrestling history questions, including Shawn Valentino, Michael Moore, Ben Tucker, Jon Mezzera, Brian Leahy, Jimmy Eaton, and Mike Roe.

You can send your questions for the All-Star Panel to the same address as always: askpwtorch@gmail.com. We will make sure they are directed to the appropriate panelist for potential inclusion in a published Ask PWTorch feature here on the PWTorch App or VIP Website. You may see your question asked in both versions of Ask PWTorch (the Afternoon original website-exclusive version and app-exclusive All-Stars version) so check both versions. Different groups of panelists may tackle your question on different days, so keep checking back. Because they all come from different backgrounds and have different experiences as both fans and working in some capacity in the business or covering it for the Torch, you're going to get some strong specific points of view from them.
