Ask the Specialists Roundtable #61

- Question from PWTorch reader Hollie S.: I have a question for the Roundtable - I've read different opinions on Seth Rollins's future in WWE. While he is Mr. Money In The Bank and routinely wins on Raw and Smackdown, I've seen what happens to people like Damien Sandow, Dolph Ziggler, etc. - wrestlers who are talented in ring and on the mic, but are not considered main event material. I think Rollins is tremendously talented, but I am concerned that his future booking will be weak. Will he have a successful cash-in? Is he a future WWE Heavyweight champion? I think and hope so. Your thoughts?

- "Falls Count Anywhere" Tony Donofrio (@TonyDonofrio) responds: One thing about the MITB winner now is that it now should hold more prestige than it ever has before. With there being only one World Champion and one holder of the briefcase, WWE wouldn’t give the case to someone that it doesn’t have the utmost confidence in. What does that mean? It means we won’t see winners like Ziggler, Sandow, and Jack Swagger anymore. I think Rollins will be a future WWE World champion. However, that doesn’t mean his cash-in will be successful and I don’t foresee the cash-in taking place until some time after WM31.

- "Mr. PPV" Nathan Kyght responds: WWE are seemingly very high on the former members of The Shield, and I'm not worried about their futures in the company. Rollins was given the Triple H association, the MITB win, and was spotlighted in the "Journey to Summerslam" documentary. I think the company is behind Rollins for the long haul.

- "Hits & Misses" Jon Mezzera responds: I certainly see why you would be concerned. Just look at Cesaro's on-again off-again push over the past year. I really thought WWE was headed somewhere great with him, but then his relationship with Paul Heyman totally fizzled in a most anti-climactic way and he went on a long losing streak. But, recently he seems to be getting more attention. So, it is very hard to tell sometimes what WWE is doing with a wrestler.

I agree with you about Seth Rollins's talent. I have greatly enjoyed watching him wrestle both in and out of The Shield. I thought WWE made a mistake having him turn heel instead of Dean Ambrose, but both have played their parts very well and proven me wrong. So, I hope that Rollins does have a long good career in WWE. I am optimistic because of how he has been treated and protected as Mr. Money in the Bank. He actually wins his matches. So far, he has gotten the better of Dean Ambrose. Remember, before failing on his cash in last year, Damien Sandow lost almost every match he was in after winning the briefcase, and was made to look a fool in his feud against Cody Rhodes. So, I am not worried that a year from now Rollins will be stuck with a lame imitation comedy gimmick like Sandow.

However, I highly doubt he will ever be a consistent main-eventer. Will he be successful in his cash in? I think and hope so. If he fails, that would be three failures in a row (with Cena and Sandow), and that hurts the Money in the Bank gimmick. So, regardless of how I feel about Rollins, I think WWE needs a successful cash-in this year. It won't happen while Brock Lesnar is the WWE World champion, but I could see Rollins ruining his ex-Shield partner's WrestleMania celebration by cashing in on Roman Reigns at WrestleMania (or the next night on Raw), if WWE goes that route.
