ASK PWTORCH STAFF for 8/4: Is WWE underutlizing Hulk Hogan? Why didn't Low Ki end up feuding with Rey Mysterio as planned and why was he dropped entirely? Is EC3 really related to Dixie Carter? Should someone attack Shield in the crowd?

PWTorch reader Uzoma I asks: I learned that, along with MVP, Rey Mysterio contributed to Low Ki signing with WWE back in 2009 in order to have a program with him. When Low Ki (wrestling under the ring name Kaval) got injured during his stint on WWE's former developmental territory, FCW, it was postponed. After Kaval recovered, the proposed program was dropped and, instead, he was called up for NXT Season 2 where he was paired with LayCool as his pros and won the competition before getting released after losing all but one (or two) of his matches and getting an IC Title Shot against Dolph Ziggler at Survivor Series, all despite being on Smackdown where Mysterio himself was at. Why was the planned program between Low Ki and Rey Mysterio dropped? Thank you and, again, keep it up with your website and your Ask PWTorch!

PWTorch senior columnist Bruce Mitchell answers: WWE, like most companies that employed him, thought Low Ki wasn't worth the headaches they got dealing with him. Add that WWE is always uncomfortable promoting smaller wrestlers, even a money act like Rey Mysterio, and it's not hard to figure how this program that Mysterio wanted fell through the cracks. I thought a Rey Mysterio vs. Dark Rey Mysterio (Low Ki in a mask) program could have been very lucrative, particularly in merchandise sales.

PWTorch columnist Greg Parks answers: Sometimes in WWE, programs get dropped without a reason. We've even seen programs make it to TV and get abandoned for one reason or another. Vince McMahon is famous for changing his mind over and over, regardless of how concrete things seem. Once Ki was injured and had come back, they had likely moved on to other ideas for both men.

PWTorch reader David L. asks: Are EC3 and Dixie Carter really related?

PWTorch editor Wade Keller answers: No. They are just portrayed that way on TV for storyline purposes.

===

PWTorch reader Reg. A from London, Ont. asks: What would you guys have made of an angle where someone who was feuding with The Shield went through the crowd and up to the top of the arena to "look for" the Shield, perhaps resulting in an ambush or a scuffle to break out. Does it surprise you that something like this never happened? While this may have caused some unintentional comedy, would it have been an effective segment to advance an angle?

PWTorch columnist Greg Parks answers: I mean, it could've been, but it's not as if WWE left money on the table by not doing this. I could've seen this happen in the middle of an episode of Raw... certainly nothing that would add a ton of heat to a feud or anything.

PWTorch reader Jeff from Michigan asks: Could WWE be getting more out of Hulk Hogan?

PWTorch assistant editor James Caldwell answers: I'm not sure there's much to get out of Hulk Hogan in 2014. It's not a knock on Hogan, as there just isn't a regular role for him on TV. TNA tried the authority figure role and he overshadowed everyone or ended up being booked as the principal trying to keep kids in order. (See: Kurt Angle on current TNA TV.) You can't have Hogan manage someone because people would want to see Hogan, not the client. So, WWE is probably using him in the best ways possible - promoting the product in media interviews, appearing at live events such as the Japan tour, and filming Network material.

PWTorch columnist Sean Radican answers: I'm not sure I know exactly what you mean, but I'll take a stab at it. They used Hogan for a big WrestleMania moment in Japan this year and sent him over with the crew for the Japan tour last month. Hogan being in the ring when KENTA signed his WWE contract in Japan made the signing seem like a huge deal. The thing with Hogan is he can't wrestle and he's best used in small doses. I think WWE is doing a really good job using him. He's a good ambassador for the company for PR purposes and I think he's filling his role quite nicely.

PWTorch columnist Greg Parks answers: In theory, yeah, but how they've been using him is fine with me. He probably has no interest in being a weekly character on TV, and really, even though he'd be used more in that role, I don't know more is better at this point, especially given how wobbly he's been on the mic dating back to his days in TNA. Bringing him out for big announcements, like the KENTA deal in Japan, I think is the right way to go. That way, he won't get overexposed.

PWTorch columnist Pat McNeill answers: I don't see how, unless WWE wants to try one of those minitube systems farmers use on bulls.

PWTorch editor Wade Keller answers: The area I'm surprised they haven't used him more is promoting WWE Network. His history in WWE on PPV is a big part of the sales pitch to a significant segment of WWE's target market for the Network. I think they could be using him more not only promoting the Network, but on advertised wrap-arounds introducing PPVs he's a big part of including the WWF early WrestleMania years and the NWO-WCW era. Also, although he's not strong in a roundtable conversation setting, I'd like to see the WWF have him part of a new panel discussion on his career with a few other big names to chat about the whole span of his years on top. Also, a new Hulkamania documentary seems like a good "call to action" incentive to get new subscribers, especially if there's a hook that Hogan would talk about things he never has gotten deep into before. As far as not overexposing him on TV weekly, I agree with that. As far as his not wrestling, I agree with that. However, I think he should be used once a year or maybe twice a year as someone who maybe is a special ringside enforcer for someone. For instance, having John Cena feud with a heel and having Cena employ Hogan to stop outside interference would be a fun use of Hogan. I thought they were going that way with WrestleMania 30's Cena vs. Bray Wyatt match.
